E5606 with no HVM; Assertion 'i == 1' failed at p2m-ept.c:524
Hi Xen developers and enthousiasts, Recently I have been having a lot of problems with HVM hosts on a dual Xeon E5606 box. Problem is that HVM hosts don''t work on it at all and crash the server. Today I got the logging to work over an IPMI console so then I compiled a fresh xen-unstable. Apart from the message I posted in the subject the call trace reads as follows: (XEN) Xen call

Sharing entropy across VMs
Short question: is it possible to share entropy across all VMs and how can this be done? I found http://vanheusden.com/entropybroker/ which seems to offer a way, but I cannot get it to work, syslog tells me "stack smashing detected". So if there are ways people are currently using I''d be interested to hear them. Currently I find that even generating a gpg key on a PV VM takes

DAHDI - Tickless Kernel?
Greetings- I'm running some USB DAHDI hardware on a system with a tickless kernel. The audio quality is quite poor. Could the tickless kernel be to blame? If so, when recompiling a kernel that is *not* tickless, is there a recommended KERNEL_HZ value? IIRC, older kernels used to be 1000, but newer ones are 250. Thoughts? --Tim

Kernel crash with acpi_processor, cpu_idle and intel_idle =y
Hi everyone, When I set CONFIG_ACPI_PROCESSOR, CONFIG_CPU_IDLE and CONFIG_INTEL_IDLE to y then I cannot boot Xen; there is a crash. If I turn CONFIG_INTEL_IDLE off then the boot goes well and, after dom0 has booted, xenpm works and gives some sane output, see below. I have tested this with kernels 3.2 to 3.4.6. Is it impossible to use INTEL_IDLE with Xen? If this is a known issue then maybe

Xen and tickless Linux
Hello, I am trying to build a custom kernel 2.6.24 from ubuntu with xen dom0 support. Does Xen support a tickless system (CONFIG_TICK_ONESHOT=y) and the realtime features of this kernel (CONFIG_PREEMPT=Y instead of CONFIG_PREEMP_VOLUNTARY)? Everytime, I set these options while configuring the kernel, the two settings are not regarded during kernel compilation. I also tried to build the

sparse to no sparse
Hi. I have an old Xen para virt vm which I created using sparse file. Is there any way to convert this vm image to non-sparse without shutting down the vm?. Thanks Paras.

nearly-tickless-tinc
Hi, tinc has a fixed timeout of 1 second for select() in the main loop. I think this could be improved. Do you think the following patch goes into the right direction ? I don't know whether pselect() is standard enough (works under "current" linux, however I don't know about the other arches). Maybe a config option is necessary. It's probably possible

Windows 2008 Server, GPLPV drivers, Qemu upstream and BSoD
Hi, I just tested booting Windows 2008 server 64 bit using GPLPV drivers. It seems to work with qemu traditional, but with Qemu upstream (1.1-stable) there is a BSOD when using the most recent signed GPLPV drivers (paging fault in non-paged area). -- Stay in touch, Mark van Dijk. ,--------------------------------- -----------------------------'' Sat Sep 08 08:14

Recommendations for kernel config
Hi, I'm building a test asterisk server and building the latest kernel I got to wonder if there are any specific recommendations about schedulers and so forth for optimum performance. There are a few areas that raise questions in my mind and I wonder if anyone has any opinions/comments on which settings are most suitable for use with asterisk: SLAB Allocator (SLAB or SLUB?) xen-pciback cause my system hang
Hi, I have successfully start my Win7 x86 domU on my x64 Xen dom0 system. Now I want to give my Win7 full access to my Nvidia card. lspci 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G86 [Quadro NVS 140M] (rev a1) and I added these to my /etc/modprobe.d/xen-pciback.conf options xen-pciback hide=(0000:01:00.0) then I ran modprobe xen-pciback nothing happens on the screen, and my

Xen networking disconnect
Hello. I need your help, DomU xen network diconnects randomly, how do you monitoring this? When I connect to vnc server in the hosts, DomU is running, then I open the DomU, after that guest network responds. DomU Debian 6.03 over Centos 5.7 and Xen 3.03. Error starting updated Debian servers
Hi all, After applying some updates onto a Debian web server, I rebooted it. However it will no longer start, and generates this error in XenCenter: 22/12/2011 09:57:45 Error: Starting VM ''Web Server'' - Using <class ''grub.GrubConf.Grub2ConfigFile''>; to parse /boot/grub/grub.cfg - WARNING:root:Unknown directive load_video - WARNING:root:Unknown directive

cpufreq affects rate in, at least, htb
Hi all :) I''ve tested this and having a cpufreq that slows down the CPU affects the rate of HTB. My ondemand cpufreq governor scales down the CPU frequency about 40% and this is more or less the slowdown the rate suffers, 40%. Any known way of dealing with this without having to disable cpufreq? Thanks in advance :) Ra?l N??ez de Arenas Coronado -- Linux Registered

NSD compressing RP content
Hello, while investigating a report from Jan-Piet Mens (resulting in http://wiki.powerdns.com/trac/changeset/3109), we discovered that NSD (both 3.2.15 and 4.0.0b4) compresses labels in RP content. As far as I can see, this is not allowed by RFC3597 section 4 paragraph 1/2. PowerDNS Recursor, like Unbound and BIND, now deals with this as 3597 section 4 paragraph 4 says we SHOULD. Nevertheless,
