Announcing the puppet-bsd google group
With the upcoming release of FreeBSD 10, the recent release of OpenBSD 5.4, and so on, there''s a bunch of new and interesting stuff happening in the BSD world. I''ve created the puppet-bsd google group, with the hopes that it will become a useful resource for BSD users to puppetize their wonderfully BSD infrastructure. You can subscribe/view here:

I figured I''d take to time to remind you guys of the r/puppet subreddit: <http://www.reddit.com/r/puppet> I''m hoping to see it grow more in the lead-up to PuppetConf, mostly because I want to see some interesting blog posts and such before September ;) Cheers - R. Puppet 3.1.1, hiera and parameter autoload
Hello all, I don''t know if I have hit a strange bug or it''s just an incorrect interpretation about how parameter autoloading works... Today I have been searching, analysing and about to hit my head against a wall trying to figure out why a call to hiera_hash was not merging data from top level among different hierarchies. The problem was that I was trying to do something

Continuous Integration, Puppet, dynamic VMs etc
Hi there, Have any of you Puppet users/abusers out there worked on or even succeeded at some sort of Continuous Integration of your Puppet-language codebase? I''m very interested to hear about the experiences of other people in the community on some of this stuff. If you were in Amsterdam for Puppet Camp you might have seen my talk on these kinds of things and I''m sure there are

[GreenDragon] Jenkins Core and Plugin Maintenance
Hi, Green Dragon will be down for maintenance for about the next hour or so while I apply some plugin security patches and perform a Jenkins Core update. I’ll update this email when I am done working and everything is back on-line. Respectfully, Mike Edwards -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Puppet code review - suggestions and options
We are looking to implement a code review system that will require a review of the code before it gets to production servers. I have been looking into many different options, and would love some feedback and experiences from other users. Our puppet is in a git repo. We have 3 primary environments with a branch of puppet for each of them. All of our puppet info is in the git repo

[LLVMdev] New OS X and Jenkins based build cluster
I can see why that would annoy you. The intent here was to beef up the OS X testing, which had become really weak. This was a lateral move, we replaced an old build master that was OS X with a new build master which is OS X. At a technical level, there are lots of ways we could have a unified view over all of the CI systems. We need to sort out the who and what of project like that. > On

Adding files to file server on Puppet Master from a client
HI. Firstly, I''m bound to be doing something utterly basically wrong here, so if I am I apologise. Right now I have a fairly simple setup where the JAR files for a Weblogic-based application server are stored in the file server on my Puppet Master. I run scripts on the client that downloads the files from the file server, puts them in the right place etc etc. All very simple. I am

[Bridge] [PATCH] (1/4) bridge: use jenkins hash
Replace the existing mac hash in the bridge code with the nice inline jenkins hash. This should provide better distribution across hash buckets and compiles to code that is similar in complexity. Puppet/foreman redundant servers? Cluster, recovery etc
What are the best practices for achieving a maximally redundant and scalable environment? What are you doing? We''re rolling out Puppet with Foreman, mysql, Passenger, on a RHEL6 VMWare box. Configs are stored in SVN and Jenkins. Right now we''ve got those first four things running on the same single server but for production we always want replication whenever possible. --

Does certification make sense for non-PE users?
Subject really says it all. I took the practice exam linked from @PuppetLabs and I was a little bit surprised/caught-off-guard by the number of either PE or Console questions, neither of which I''ve ever used :-! I am taking the developer exam though, so I''m sure that will be at least a little different. Does it make sense to take the exam for an "open source puppet

Puppet testing
I''m in the process of trying to get automated testing for my modules, using puppet-lint, rspec-puppet, puppetlabs_spec_helper and Jenkins. Are there any automated, or semi-automated ways to ensure coverage on my tests? At the moment I am writing tests for existing modules, but I also need to be able to be relatively certain that tests are updated as modules are, and minimize reliance
