SLES11: facter without arguments produces Error: uninitialized constant Facter::IPAddress
Hi, I run into problems with the ipaddress fact using the latest
Facter gem (1.6.4, 1.6.5) on SLES11. The versions and gems I use work
perfectly fine on SLES10 SP3.
The problem: running "facter" without arguments results in an error,
even though the erroring fact "ipaddress" is ok.

facter fails to recognize OEL/OVS in operatingsystemrelease.rb
For the benefit of those running OEL (Oracle Enterprise Linux) or OVS,
be aware that under 2.6.0rc4 facter doesn''t properly recognize OEL in
/usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/facter/operatingsystemrelease.rb. A diff
for a fix is below; probably not the best fix but if you need it work
now, this''ll do it for you.
I''ve already filed a bug:

facter doesn't load from /ect/facter/facts.d
I''m trying to load custom facts via /etc/facter/facts.d/* according to
instructions on
http://docs.puppetlabs.com/guides/custom_facts.html#structured-data-facts
I must have missed a setting somewhere because I get nothing. The first
clue may be that /etc/facter didn''t exist. I had to create it manually.
Is there a setting or search path I need to create?

facter 1.6.18 tarball has a dangerous mac preflight script
The facter 1.6.18 tarball has many issues. First, the
ext/osx/createpackage.sh script still uses packagemaker, which is
deprecated. And even if it used that, there are a few references to files
in the now-deleted conf/osx/ directory.
So it''s pretty difficult to create a Mac pkg from this, but after some
tweaking of the createpackage.sh script, I managed to do it! I ran the
package it

SLES11 facter problems
I installed the 2.6.2 puppet and facter 1.5.8 gems and tried to run
puppet, but it failed with the following message:
err: Could not run Puppet configuration client: Could not retrieve
local facts: uninitialized constant Facter::IPAddress
Then I tried running facter alone:

facter fails to detect network interfaces with long names
I have Gentoo host where `ifconfig -a` prints long interface names
truncated to 9 chars (there is closed bug report [1]).
Unfortunately, `facter` uses `ifconfig -a` output to get list of
interface names and because of truncation it generates `interfaces`
fact with incorrect interface names. Also it fails to retrieve
individual interface information with following message for
