Template Help Please
Hello,
I am trying to setup a template with data being passed in as a long
string of data which is being returned via extlookup()
i.e. $resolvers = "10.10.10.10 11.11.11.11.12.12.12.12"
The template should split those up and put a nameserver entry per line
in /etc/resolv.conf
I have this in the template now:-

Date vs date
I wrote the date package long ago, and it has been useful. In my current task
of reunifying the R (Tom Lumley) and Splus (me) code trees for survival, I'm
removing the explicit dependence on 'date' objects from the expected survival
routines so that they better integrate. Comparison of 'date' to 'Date' has
raised a couple of questions.
Clearly Date is more

EFI: PXE: "My IP is 0.0.0.0"
Hello Gene,
thanks a lot for your patch! It doesn't work yet, but I have some more
information.
Before the patch, the boot sequence ended with the following:
NBP file download successfully.
Getting cached packet
My IP is 0.0.0.0
After the patch it ended with the following (note that the IP is the same
as the Station IP address):

Seperate CA's/Master behind load balancer

Clearly an SSL issue but not something I know a great deal about.

Announce: Puppet 2.7.9 Available
It seems like only yesterday that we were releasing Puppet 2.7.8.
But a day has passed and here is Puppet 2.7.9.
Puppet 2.7.9 is being released so shortly after Puppet 2.7.8 because it
introduced a regression on Ruby 1.8.5. The regression, issue #11306 would
cause a failure when handling non-empty recursive resources, such as a
recursive file resource.
The 1.8.5 incompatible code wasn’t caught

Puppet 2.7.9 package for Solaris
Folks,
I''ve rolled 2.7.9 for Solaris as an OpenCSW package[1]. You can get it from the ''unstable'' catalog now.

Small Files/Load Average Information
Hi,
I have been noticing some serious load averages occurring when users are
browsing or using directories with a large number of files.
A case in point is our Sage users. Sage is a nasty program and spits out
three small files into a spool directory every time something is printed and
does not clear them out. This means that the spool directories rapidly fill
with tiny files and by the end of

file and user permissions on the puppet master, best practice
Hi all. New puppet developer. Very excited. I have the agents
communicating with the puppet master.
I''m wondering now about best practice for file and user permissions on
the puppet master. Most of my wonder probably stems from general lack
of understanding in this area. I''d like to get it right though to
avoid refactoring later.

Yum question - RHEL4
Hi
this is technically a RHEL4 question but i hope it can be answered here...
Does RHEL4 do yum OK ? I kix a lot of boxes and it would be great to run
the update after the build automajically rather than running through the
up2date registration and using that method. I would also rather not pay
lots for satellite server.
If i setup my own RHEL repo can i use yum against this? Or any other

puppet on RHEL4
Hello,
I''m seeing the following when I run puppetd --version
/usr/sbin/puppetd:157:in `require'': no such file to load -- puppet
(LoadError)
from /usr/sbin/puppetd:157
I thought upgrading ruby to 1.8.5 would solve the issue but it has not.
In any case, here are the relevant rpm versions...

ruby-rdoc-1.8.5-1.el4.centos

Problems patching fs/jbd/checkpoint.c in RHEL4 2.6.9-67.0.4 kernel
My manual patching of the rejects in checkpoint.c didn''t work out; a
delete of 10,000 files caused a panic (in any ext fs, not just
Lustre).
In the new checkpoint.c, two routines expected by the patch no longer
exist: __cleanup_transaction and __flush_buffer.
I can avoid the panic if I omit (don''t try to manually patch) the following:
Index: linux-2.6.9/fs/jbd/checkpoint.c

unable to start RHEL4 domU from Gentoo dom0
Hi list,
I''m trying to get RHEL4 working as Xen guest as described by the howto
at https://virt.108.redhat.com/articles/2007/01/15/rhel4-testing.html.
However, when creating the xenU domain, I''m stuck with the following
error message:

Using config file "/etc/xen/rhel4".

RPM packages for RHEL4
Hi,
- the download page links to /RPM/rhel/ instead of /RPM/rhel4/
- the location of repos.d in DAG's yum (I guess where most people
would get yum for RHEL) is /etc/yum.repos.d/
rhel4 works with yum but ...
could you sign the packages - it's risky to use an unsigned repository
(only have to compromise the web server to own any system updating from it)?
up2date requires a

Resizing Freebsd mdroot domU, on a RHEL4 dom0 machine.
I''ve gotten freebsd 7.0 domU working using the files here:
http://www.fsmware.com/xenofreebsd/7.0/downloads
on a rhel4 system using xen-3.0.0-7.1_rhel4.1 rpms.
but the root filesystem for freebsd is quite small:

I''m wanting to resize the mdroot filesystem, but am unsure how. I have
no issues resizing ext*
