What do YOU do to catch undefined variables
I''m still a puppet newbie and these days I''m struggling with undefined variables. At least once a week I hit an error message like this: Error: Failed to apply catalog: '''' is not qualified and no path was specified. Please qualify the command or specify a path. IMO, the core issue is that Puppet has no mechanism for reporting read attempts on

Profiles, Hiera, and create_resources('class','...')
Hi all, We''ve recently started exploring the role / profile / component module described by Craig Dunn in his blog here: http://www.craigdunn.org/2012/05/239/ and discussed on the list the other day. As I was implementing this for a profile using the apache module, I realized that I could make another refinement to our approach by using

Eclipse CDT not working properly
Hello again, Another problem with my new CentOS 6 installation: The C/C++ support in Eclipse seems to be partial or missing - even though eclipse-cdt is installed. Eclipse starts all right, and I get a C/C++ perspective, but: 1. If I open a C++ file, it's sent to an external editor. 2. C or C++ is not mentioned in Preferences. 3. I can't find a reference to CDT under Help->About

Best R text editors?
Quick informal poll: what is everyone's favorite text editor for working with R? I'd like to hear from people who are using editors that have some level of direct R interface (e.g. Tinn-R, Komodo+SciViews). Thanks! --j -- Jonathan A. ''Best'' IDE for testing and debugging
I''m trying to decide which IDE to go with for RoR development. I put a high premium on integrated test automated tools and debugging capabilities. I''d appreciate any sharing of experience. I''m currently running Instant Rails on a Windows 2000 box (using IR due to problems I encountered trying to get all the components set up individually). Also, I''m using

Geppetto with Subversion
I''m trying to use Geppetto 4 to develop puppet modules and check them in and out of subversion. I''ve got a subversion repositories setup via web dav. The Cloudsmith FAQ seems a bit vague. I''ve not used Eclipse much at all and am not sure how the subversion integration works. I saw a really cool video demo from the PuppetConf youtube channel using the Forge (

Geppetto complains about uninitialized variables in reduce function
Hello, I''m using the following expression to format a list: $valid_environments = [''env1'', ''env2'', ''env3''] $env_message = $valid_environments.reduce |$message, $env| { "${message}, ${env}" } It works at run-time (Puppet 3.2.4 standalone with "--parser=future"). However in Eclipse (v4.3.1),

Change Tab behavior in 3.0+
Hey all, I have a question regarding the choice to move to spaces (rather than tabs) in the editor. May I ask the reasoning behind this? Furthermore, is there a way to revert to the ''old style'' that used tabs instead? I prefer this, as it makes the code look cleaner. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users"

IDE recommendations?
I was wondering if there are any IDEs out there that has autocomplete features for win32. It would be perfect if it could do something akin to what DHH is doing on the screencast hosted on the rails website. http://media.rubyonrails.org/video/rails_take2_with_sound.mov Cheers -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Object Browser
Dear all, I have tried all the popular R IDE or editors like Eclipse, Komodo, JGR, Revolution... They all have fancy fucntions like auto completion, syntax highlight.... BUT, I JUST WANT A OBJECT BROWSER! The easiest way to view objects in R console is fix(), but you have no global view of all the objects in the workspace. Revolution has the best object browser so far, but this thing is way

RoR presentations
Hi, I was wondering is there any editor that can do autocompletion as shown in the tutorials on the RoR website in the windows or linux environment. If not do any one has sharable macros that comes with textpad or any other editors. Silvy Mathews

Best IDE for R
Dear R-Group, I am looking for suggestions for the "best" IDE for R. Best is obviously subjective but I need just the basic features that should function well (and I looked through the threads already). - Proper integration with R 2.11.1 - Good key shortcuts ... similar to the R Gui - Manageability of Projects, etc. - Neat formatting features I tried Revolution R but it seems huge in

Best Environment for development
This is a newb question, and probably one that is a matter of taste more than objective merit. I''m working on a home server, running Linux [FC 4], hosting a website [look for generocities.com shortly]. I have a delightful new Windows XP Pro Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop. What would the community recommend for the environment in which I develop? I don''t mean technologies like RoR

Preferred Ruby Editor/IDE for OS X?
Just a quick question, if I were tired of typing ruby into a terminal editor, say I wanted, oh, a scroll bar, mouse support, and maybe syntax highlighting? Anyone know os a good Ruby/Rails editor or IDE, one that runs on OS X, possibly in Java? -Josh ----------- Due to the recent increase in spam and falsely sent email, I now PGP Sign all of my outgoing mail to prove my identity. Newbie questions about Rails on Windows
My background is Windows development using Visual Studio and I''m trying to get up to speed with Ruby on Rails, so please excuse these basic questions. I''ve downloaded InstantRails and can run the sample application - so Apache, MySQL, Ruby etc. are working. Where''s the "development environment"? Where do I go to edit files, create models and controllers
