How to change the time interval in dashboard for a node is considered unresponsive
Hi everyone, I have a problem with puppet-dashboard because I appear unresponsive when many nodes are running correctly. In my current configuration nodes do not run the daemon, but I have created a cron task that runs once the command puppetd at hourly intervals. The point is that when I look into dashboard many nodes are always considered unresponsive because it seems that the default dashboard

scaling projections for dashboard database?
So I got dashboard up and running on our production system on Thursday before I left. Within 48 hours it had completed filled the /var filesystem. The ibdata1 file is currently at 8GB in size. 1. What size should I expect for ~500 nodes reporting every 30 minutes? 2. Are there some database cleanup scripts which I have managed to overlook that need to be run? -- Jo Rhett Net Consonance :

Puppet Dashboard: db:migrate failure (1.2.2 to 1.2.4)
An error I managed to hit today, trying to migrate puppet dashboard from 1.2.2 to 1.2.4 (after upgrading the master to puppet 2.7.9 seemed to prevent the dashboard from importing new reports). I''m trying to re-run it now, but as you might guess, the DB is pretty huge and the process takes a while to execute. Executed from the puppet-dashboard directory: sudo rake db:migrate

preferred directory structure for multiple environments
Hello All, Moving from 2.5 to 2.6.2 and I was wondering if there is a preferred directory structure for using multiple environments? Does it work much different in 2.6 than in 2.5? When I made the move I assumed (I know) that my current structure and configurations would just roll over but that isn''t the case. Thanks, Jim -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the

Puppet dashboard shows all hosts unresponsive
Hi guys, I have a strange situation. I''ve got 1 dashboard MySQL DB accessed from 3 different dashboard hosts. Strangely enough, 2 of them show the right node statuses, and the third one just shows all nodes as unresponsive. As far as I know, the status comes from the "nodes" table in the DB, so how can this happen? Is there some cache I need to clear? Is there another

Password not changing during polling event but does using puppetd -vt
I have created a class for the root user that uses the "User resource" to manages the root password. All seems to work well and as expected when I use puppetd -vt on a machine (or if I restart the service on the client) but during a regular polling event the password is not changed and when I go into the dashboard I can see that the event for running my class is run. Just to make sure

Unresponsive Agents - PE 2.0
Hi there, I am relatively new to Puppet (totally new) and had been cruising right along for a few days until about a week ago when our puppet agents went unresponsive. I''ve restarted both them and the servers several times to no avail. Can anyone point me down the path of how to diagnose this issue? We are currently evaluating Puppet to bring into our Enterprise for managing server

puppet-dashboard
Hello, I have another quick one about puppet dashboard. We are using the Debian one for Squeeze (1.0.4) and as the database has significantly grown, if/when we click on a list of unresponsive nodes to check them, the web interface sits there doing nothing then the puppetmaster process starts timing out for all nodes compiling their catalogs. Has anyone got a workaround for this? Does it involve

How to fully remove a node from Puppet Dashboard (v1.2.4)
I can delete a node in dashboard fine, but when I do a search with the Inventory Search the node shows up again and also then shows up under "Unreported". Any way to get rid of all references to the node? Thanks, -- Romeo -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. Passing node hostname to the Puppet managed node
Hi, First of all, this is my very first message to this list, so please bear with me while I''m getting used to it. Sorry for any non-standard way to ask a question here which I can be using without prior knowledgment. I would like to be able to set up some config parameters on a given node which is going to be config-managed by Puppet and, for various reasons, I would like to be able

Generate "Compiled catalog"/yaml for a node?
Hi Experts, I remember we had this discussion before, but could find it. Can I run a command to generate a "Compiled catalog" for a specific node (on the master node)? And apply this on the client node? What are the limitations for doing this? Basically we have special handling for the webserver/CA part of puppet. Thank you very much! -Yushu

remove node parameters with dashboard rake api?
Is there a rake task for removing node parameters from the dashboard? The online dashboard manual is silent on the parameters related to rake tasks altogether. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. "Registering" a node with a central service?
I have a couple of applications (backup, Cacti, Asset Tracking) where I want a node to have some package and config installed, and once that is done, some config to be done on another system to register the client with a central server. Is there a standard way to do this, short of having some kind of web service accessible from all the client systems? From my limited Puppet knowledge, anything I

Using Hiera with Parameters set for the Puppet Node
Is it possible to have Hiera look at a key set for the node first, before looking at other items in the hierarchy? In particular - I''m using Puppet Dashboard and am setting keys & params for there, so I would like for any value set there for a node to be used over another item in the hiera hierachy. What value would I have to specify in the hierarchy for this, if it is possible?

OT - pushing database updates to web browser
This is O/T apart from the fact that the server is Centos running Apache / Postgresql. I want to develop a real time (ish) dashboard type web page showring extracts of the contents of a table. I would like any changes that occur to be pushed to the web clients rather than have the clients poll the database. Based on the fact that I have not managed to come up with a successful Google search
