SLES11 facter problems
I installed the 2.6.2 puppet and facter 1.5.8 gems and tried to run puppet, but it failed with the following message: err: Could not run Puppet configuration client: Could not retrieve local facts: uninitialized constant Facter::IPAddress Then I tried running facter alone: # facter /usr/lib64/ruby/vendor_ruby/1.8/facter/ipmess.rb:19: uninitialized constant Facter::IPAddress (NameError) After

uninitialized constant Facter::IPAddress (NameError)
I just started getting this error on some machines after a yum update from centos 5.2 to centos 5.3. Does anyone know what it means? Since I''m not a ruby person, I''m not sure how to debug this, but it looks to me like facter is having trouble parsing information about my interfaces. # facter /usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/facter/ipmess.rb:19: uninitialized constant

Puppet on Windows 2003 Server > wrong IP via facter?
Hello! I''m just getting started working with Puppet and testing on a Windows 2003 server. When I run facter on this server it returns a wrong value for the ipaddress (should be 10.10.0.203, but facter sets ipaddress=10.0.0.203). As you can see from the following ipconfig output, facter is looking at the TELECOM Ethernet adapter instead of the adapter used for the local domain

Facter doesnt resolve ipaddress or ipaddress_eth0
Hello list. I am trying to read the IP address of the eth0 interface from a CentOS 6.5 VM (XenServer). Running the manifest gives empty values to all of the following vars: $ipaddress, $ipaddress_eth0, and its $::<name> version. $interfaces has "eth0,lo". Running facter from the VM I get: # facter -v 2.0.1 # facter | grep virtual is_virtual => true virtual => xenu #

Custom fact errors
I''m a newbie attempting to get a custom fact distributed to clients. I''ve followed the instructions at http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/AddingFacts and based my first fact on a simple recipe. I''m having at least one problem and possibly more. 1) Puppet/facter fails to load the custom fact, complaining that "non- sh interpreters are not currently

Mutliple custom facts not showing in facter
Hi, I''ve noticed that defining multiple facts in one file is possible, and puppet can make use of them correctly, but when trying to call with facter --puppet they are not shown, do I need something special to make them work as any other single custom fact? Master is running 2.6.7 This is a custom fact with two facts in it: [modules/foobar/lib/facter/foobar.rb ] require

Pattern matching in case statement
Hi all, I need my servers to decide which network they are in (i.e. dmz), and the only clue is the servers IP-address. I was trying to accomplish it like this, but it doesn''t work: case $ipaddress { "10.1.1.*": { $network = "net1" } "10.2.2.*.*": { $network = "net2" } "10.3.3.*": {

ANNOUNCE: Facter 1.5
Hi all, I''ve finally gotten around to releasing Facter 1.5. As the version bump implies, this is a relatively significant release (for a 2.3k line program, anyway). Mostly, the biggest change is refactoring the code internally so that all of the functionality is split into separate classes in separate files. Also, the facts are all loaded on-demand, which provides dramatic

Facter & Puppet disagree on RHEL 6?
I''ve run into an odd one on one of my new RHEL 6 boxes. Puppet and Facter seem to disagree about the value of a fact. Puppet version: 2.7.9 Facter version: 1.6.4 Module: puppetlabs-apache apache::params falls through its if structure: if $::osfamily == ''redhat'' or $::operatingsystem == ''amazon'' { ... } elsif $::osfamily ==

facter --puppet does not report "environment"

manipulating facter variable
I''m trying to manipulate the following facter variable: ipaddress => 10.85.207.2 What I need is the second group of digits. If it''s 84 then location is A, but if it''s 85 then location is B. In puppet I couldn''t grab this second set of digits, but maybe there is a way? I''ve already tried to make a custom fact, but my ruby knowledge is *ahem* pretty

Facter and arrays
Hi, Is it possible to have an array as the output of a custom fact? And then to pass it into a template in Puppet? I currently have a fact that looks like this: Facter.add("exports") do setcode do case Facter.hostname when (/thishost/i): [ "/local", "/local2" ] end end end & a template like this: <%

Newbie stuck on facter not finding hostname
Hi all, I''m trying to get puppet working for the first time, and I''ve run into something that''s got me stumped. This is all on Solaris 10/x64. The initial startup of puppetmasterd wasn''t working, and it appeared to be related to the SSL certs not getting generated properly. I managed to trace that down to the fact that facter isn''t finding the
