Variables and scope with inherits
I want to have a parametrized class with lookup from params.pp but I keep
getting into problems.
init.pp:
class foo (
$bar = $foo::params::bar,
$foofoo = $foo::params::foofoo
) inherits foo::params {
file {''/tmp/foobar'':
content => template("foo/foobar.erb"),
}
}
params:
class foo::params {

exported resources and templating
Greetings,
I''m having an issue with my implementation of exported resources. I
have a memcache server pool, and want to update the /etc/php.d/
memcache.ini with the ips of all the servers. Previously, I hard coded
the $memcacheservers array in the node manifest and the template
collected and populated the template.
Now that I''m moving to exported resouces, how do I get it to

proper usage of global variables / node variables / +=
Hello puppet masters, I am cleaning up some puppet modules, using
puppet-lint. The warning I am getting is:
top-scope variable being used without an explicit namespace
I can turn this particular check off, but in doing my research I''m
finding all sorts of messages saying to avoid using +=, to avoid using
variables in the node scope, and to switch to a parameterized class
whenever

Moving from Puppet 0.25 to Puppet 2.6+ : global scope/variables
Hi,
I worked with puppet (< 0.25) back in 2008/2009. We were able to
deploy 200 servers from scratch and manage them. It worked fine.
I''m now with a new customer and I''m pushing Puppet (and I''m also back
to puppet on a side project).
We''re considering Puppet 2.6 to manage RHEL/CentOS 5 or 6 hosts. I''m
"upgrading myself" to Puppet

Failed to parse template, wrong number of arguments (create_resources)
I''m having some issues trying to track down a problem I''m having parsing a

puppet custom fuction run as user pupprt?
I wrote a custom fuction to read a root read-only file, it raised an
Permission Denied error.
During debug, i found this fuction seems to run as user puppet, it is this
a feature or a bug?

need urgent help with including Ruby DSL class from puppet manifests
Hi,
I have a Ruby class in "nagios" module - it''s located in nagios/
manifests/ssa_nagios_checks.rb
and looks like this
hostclass :ssa_nagios_checks do
...
end
In nagios/manifests/init.pp I have
class nagios::server {
...
include ssa_nagios_checks
...
}
And I get the following error

Yet more variable scoping pain.
Some days I wonder why I even bother with puppet.

fully qualified variables and nodes.pp
hi folks,
As a response to " Dynamic lookup of $var at is deprecated. Support will
be removed in Puppet 2.8. Use a fully-qualified variable name (e.g.,
$classname::variable) or parameterized classes." warning
i''m trying to apply fully-qualified variable name solution following this
Doc http://docs.puppetlabs.com/guides/scope_and_puppet.html, but i have a

extlookup not working correctly in 2.7.6
I''m trying to upgrade from 2.6.7 to to 2.7.6 and I''m running into an
issue in my extlookup() calls. A lot of the variables which should be
defined aren''t defined within extlookup.rb. I''ve tested 2.6.7 agent
and 2.7.5 agent against the 2.6.7 master and 2.7.6 master. I adjusted
extlookup.rb slightly to provide some debug output.

Hi,
I''ve defined a hash like so in my nodes.pp:

I''m a bit new to puppet. Is there a mailing list for puppet beginners?:)

explicit class dependencies
Do explicit class dependencies work?
This simple example fails with:
Could not find resource ''Class[Config]'' for relationship on ''Class[Uses_config]''
class config {

class uses_config {
Class[''config''] -> Class[''uses_config'']
}
include uses_config
Am I doing something?
Thanks,
Christian

Proper way to call variables from a parent class to a child class
I currently have a child class of a parent one. The parent defines
some variable that I need to use in the child class. I am also using
gepetto. Gepetto is complaining about the syntax of the child variable.
It is saying that "$parentVar" should be "$::parentVar" however, when
changing to what Gepetto wants to use this breaks my classes. Does anyone
know the proper

Nested parametrized defines
Dear puppet wizards,
http://docs.puppetlabs.com/puppet/3/reference/lang_defined_types.html does not suggest to me that nested parametrized defines would be forbidden, hence I expected the following code to work:
add_to_ssh_authorized_keys.pp:
--------
define a::ssh_keys::add_to_ssh_authorized_keys($homebasedir="/home", $targetuser="root", $keyowner, $keyownername,

Template Help Please
Hello,
I am trying to setup a template with data being passed in as a long
string of data which is being returned via extlookup()
i.e. $resolvers = "10.10.10.10 11.11.11.11.12.12.12.12"
The template should split those up and put a nameserver entry per line
in /etc/resolv.conf
I have this in the template now:-

using memorysize fact in manifests
Hi,
I want some config depending on memorysize.
What I tried was
if ($memorysize >= 256 * 1024*1024) {
...
}
But this fails because $memorysize is a string (and contains a "G") and can''t be
compared to an int.
Are all facts strings? How do I work with numbers?

multiple pamameter values in puppet dashboard ENC
Is there a way to use send multiple parameter values using puppet dashboard
ENC?
For example,
nameserver = 10.0.0.1, 10.0.0.2
or perhaps
nameserver = [''10.0.0.1'',''10.0.0.2''}
then the template erb file can loop through each of the nameserver values
to set up mulitple nameservers in resolve.conf?
Thanks - Oli

Weird "cannot reassign variable name on node" error when I try to use standalone
Hi -- I''m trying call apply in standalone mode on a configuration I''ve
written.
The way I call the command is like this:
$ puppet apply manifests/site.pp -v --modulepath modules
The directory structure is simple:
.
manifests/site.pp
manifests/nodes.pp
modules/ ...
site.pp just includes nodes.pp, and nodes.pp looks like this:
