How to divide the puppet.conf file in multiple files ?
Hi,
How can i divide my puppet.conf file in multiple files ?
I would like to have the [main] and [agent] section in puppet.conf and
[master] in puppetmaster.conf for example. I could call sone "include"
or "import" statement inside puppet.conf to include the content of
puppetmaster.conf in my configuration
Not sure if this is a stupid question, but i could not find any

Accumulating values
Greetings
I''m searching for an elegant way to contribute lines to an SNMP configuration file from resources scattered throughout a given system''s catalog, such that from anywhere, the SNMP configuration file can be arbitrarily extended like this:
$snmp::lines += "proxy -m ${mib_file} -v 2c -c ${snmp_community} localhost:1161 .1.3.6.1.4.1.42.2.145"

Problem with puppet-concat
Hi
I am developing a module to create a simple nas for my work and I am using
the concat module to assemble /etc/exports and /etc/samba/smb.conf.
I developed my module on my puppet development server and concat worked
like a charm, however when I rolled it out to my live servers if kept on

Managing cronjobs as a file in solaris with appendifnosuchline for specific servers
I want to manage cronjobs as a " file " in solaris through puppet and
not using the puppet cron resource.
I will be managing the file /var/spool/cron/crontabs/root.
I want the cron file to be same across all servers except some servers
will have additional cron entries.
How can I append to the file /var/spool/cron/crontabs/root , something
like appendifnosuchline in cfengine?

Searching for Nodes
Hello All,
I''m reviewing switching to puppet from chef and am trying to identify how
to port the various features.
I have hit a stumbling block searching for nodes. In Chef i could search
for a node by role, but I am lost as how to do this with puppet and classes.
Example:
I want my load-balancing node to look for all application server nodes and
grab their ip address (and hostname

strange string in /etc/shadow
Hi,
I am using puppet (version 0.25.5-1.e15 for redhat) for password
management for non-system users. This morning, users on some of my
puppet clients had their encrypted password strings in /etc/shadow
replaced with the following string:
YAML::syck::BadAlias
That has effectively broken the users'' ability to login to those
servers. Puppet will not overwrite that string with the

node_openstack dependency
Hi,
I am trying to install node_openstack module for puppet. But I see its dependency on puppetlabs-cloud_provisioner<https://forge.puppetlabs.com/puppetlabs-cloud_provisioner> (>= 1.0.2)
Is this version available, if not is there any work around?
regards,
Haynes Davis

Puppet + APT, I am lost...
Hi,
For the past week, I have been trying to figure out the best way to do
package management with Puppet on an Ubuntu system. I have studied many
solutons I found on the web, but none of them seem to do exactly what I want.
Among other things, I have tried everything that is discussed here:
http://groups.google.com/group/puppet-users/browse_thread/thread/af7349171a5821a4/db96b809c97f6006

Installing Oracle
This is pretty ugly.
I''m using puppet to install Oracle, ie an exec{} wrapped around:
/u01/oracle_extract/linux.x64_11gR2_database/database/runInstaller
-silent -responseFile /etc/oracle_response.rsp
The problem is that the damn installer backgrounds itself and returns
control to the shell. I tried putting the above command in a script,
followed by a wait command, but that

Define -> Class dependencies not respected
Hello,
I''m encountering an issue which I think is a bug, but I want to propose it
here before filing it for good @puppetlabs,
and be sure it''s not just a misunderstanding.
Actually, I often use a construction where a "main" class would include
some small others that build a complete
service (install, config, service )
Relationship are given (and respected) in the main

Array being flattened
Hello All,
I''ve run into an issue where an array that''s being passed into a
defined type is being "flattened" when it''s inclosed in double quotes
and I''m not sure how to get around this. This is happening a the
pdxcat/amanda module and I''ve raised an github issues for this but
wanted to query the community as a whole. The issue and my branch

Question about templates from variables
I''m running into an issue trying to do something like the following:

}
}
class test::test2 inherits test {
File["test"] { content +> template(''mytemplate3''), }

Node specific exported resources
Greetings,
I''m trying to wrap my head around a solution to a problem I''m facing with
an exported resources configuration I have. I''m using the following simple
config to build a munin configuration:
@@file { "/etc/munin/munin.conf.d/${::fqdn}.node":
content => "[All Hosts;${::fqdn}]
address ${ipaddress_eth0}
use_node_name yes\n\n",

how to deal with xml files within Puppet ?
hi there,
I have to create a new server.xml which should be build from at least 3 or
4 another xml files. How could to copy and paste with puppet methods ?
On a command line under Unix I would do cat 1.xml > my_file.xml ; cat 2.xml
>> my_file.xml; cat 3.xml >> my_file.xml.
I have to say, I''m pretty new to puppet and simply have no clue how to
tackle this task ;=(

Software inventory
Howdy,
Before I go about writing one myself, anyone out there written a
software inventory module/fact for gathering a list of all installed
rpms/debs on a system? Got a few ideas floating around in my head, but
wanted to see if/what other folks have done ..

Why is it so hard to make a sane nagios server config?
I''ve tried to achieve my overall goals with several different features
of Puppet, but I''ve hit a bit of a wall here. I think it''s time for me
to explain what I''m trying to accomplish:
I want the enabling of a service in my manifests to configure
the monitoring of that service by a nagios server, without
needless repetition.
Let me explain how my

puppet facts.d executable PROBLEM
Hi folks,
I''m using this
plugin https://github.com/ripienaar/facter-facts/tree/master/facts-dot-d
and I can''t get a fact out of a simple shell script. YAML TXT JSON works
well
My little shell script testfact.sh looks like
#!/bin/bash
echo "TEST=NOT WORKING"
made it executable
chmod +x testfact.sh
made a puppet agent -t to read the new fact
BUT

extlookup not working correctly in 2.7.6
I''m trying to upgrade from 2.6.7 to to 2.7.6 and I''m running into an
issue in my extlookup() calls. A lot of the variables which should be
defined aren''t defined within extlookup.rb. I''ve tested 2.6.7 agent
and 2.7.5 agent against the 2.6.7 master and 2.7.6 master. I adjusted
extlookup.rb slightly to provide some debug output.

Multiple template fallbacks
Hi,
In a file resource I want to be able to specify multiple template contents.
If the 1st template doesn''t exist use the 2nd listed and so on. Much like
how the source attribute works.
Basically this:
file { "/tmp/somefile.txt":
ensure => present,
content => [
template("somefile-$fqdn.erb"),

puppet-module-apache
Hey all,
I''ve open-sources Digg''s apache module:
http://github.com/plathrop/puppet-module-apache
I know this isn''t much more advanced than what I''ve seen a lot of
people using. Here''s my proposition, though. Let''s get all the
disparate "apache" modules out there merged together into One Awesome
Module. What do you think?
