Updated: Sentry Port Scan Detector 0.60
Hello,
I would normally not write this list to announce an update to a software
package, however there have been a number of very significant changes to
this program that users of it may want to upgrade and new users may want
to check out.

Abacus DOS problem Lock Selector
A lawyer in California is trying to change to linux. In CA, there are a
number of programs required by the courts, and so far none are ported to
linux at any price. His reason for wishing to change has to do with the
fact that Microsoft now controls his access to his own files, and he finds
this unacceptable.
I tried one of his apps, an old DOS version of Abacus. Using the WINe with

Samba + Abacus Law anyone?
I'm attempting to install Abacus Law (v13) under Samba and Linux. Install
completes, and I get as far as a single user successfully logged in, but
the 2nd user is nothing but trouble. Samba logs show nothing unusual to my
semi-trained eye, but locking code or timing is a likely suspect. Technical
support is of no help as they haven't tested (and therefore don't support)

Some time ago I posted on linux-security to say that I was working on

Latest on Abacus DPMI problem.
I contacted Mr. Heinonen, and got the response below. So, he says the
problem is, it is 16 bit DPMI, which is rare, and the real problem is,
DOSVM has a bug which allows two simultaneous interrupts. I assured him I
was not asking anyone to work on the problem at all. I needed to get a
handle on it, I had thought it was a locked selector problem. Learning what
the real problem was, is a big

Sentry plugin causing migration to fail
I have an application that uses the Sentry plug-in. I am using Sentry
on my Users model for encrypting passwords. It works fine inside the
application, but whenever I call User.create in my migration (in order
to set-up a default user) I get the following error when I run the
migrations:
rake aborted!

undefined method `crypted_password='' while using Sentry
I''d like to hear from some one who has been using Sentry successfully.
I am trying to
symmetrically_encrypts :password
for a user model. It is a bare bones model just to test Sentry. I have
password defined as ''text'' in the users table. I have openssl library
installed on Debian Sarge. The secret key is defined in
environment.rb. But when I submit the form I get

[Sentry]-before_validation(model) not working for crypted-attribute?
I am still trying to get sentry working to encrypt a couple of
attributes in the model. One of them is a password field and the other
ssn#.
I have crypted_password and crypted_ssn in the db.
In addition, I also have validates_uniqueness_of :ssn
Here is the problem... I get the error

OSTs inactive on one client (only)
Hi everyone,
I have seen this question here before, but without a very
satisfactory answer. One of our half a dozen clients has
lost access to a set of OSTs:

Add lines to xy plot with temporal x axis
Hi. I'm trying to add some vertical lines to an xyplot in which x axis is a
temporal variable (class=dates) and y axis a factor variable.
This is my code:
xyplot(factor(Abacus$Emisor)~Abacus$Dia,xlab="Date", ylab="Fish",pch=124,
scales=list(x=list(format="%b %Y",tick.number=30))
, panel=function(...){
panel.xyplot(...)
panel.abline(v=08/08/2008)
})

Calls which cross trust boundaries
Many of the security problems we''ve had to deal with recently have
been where one program invokes another when no good level of trust
exists between them.
Currently solutions to this requirement are produced on an ad-hoc
basis, usually involving set-id programs (often setuid root),
superuser daemons calling user programs for `upcalls'', or both.
There are problems with this

Sentry Plugin - Easy Question I don''t doubt
I am looking at adding the Sentry plugin to one of the applications
that we are working on. I have a need to store some info that will
have to be encrypted and decrypted. I have been going through the
docs for the plugin and the AsymetricSentry class looks like the best
for what we need to do but I am not sure how to generate the key. The
docs say:
This is a shortcut for using an

I am having issues on parkedcalls.
I am using a Cisco SPA525G as a test phone, and I have the transfer button there when I am in a call,
But when I want to transfer the current call I am in, I push the transfer button, and onscreen I se "Enter Number", and if I enter ex sip 200, I have to wait
Almost 10 seconds, before the transfer to sip 200 is made, can I reduce

More sendmail problems... Partition your disks!
This is yet-another reason to _partition_ your disks. Of course hard links
do not work accross filesystems. Even thought it is a pain in the neck to do
when installing your operating system, think about separating critical
system files from non-critical and non-system files from system files. I
would say that the following layout is a good place to start:
/
/usr (nosuid,nodev,ro)

Could you please help with this?
Thank you for all support, you are great, and i am now at a late stage in the setup and tweaking this server,
So I hope you can help me again.
I Can't make include the context nighttime. Just to demonstrate if it works, I have a playback function there.

SAMBA netbois lookup issues
Hi all!
I am from the Windows world and am trying to migrate to Linux and have done
a fairly good job so far.
My recent challenge is that I have built a Samba file/print server that
works very well on my internal network but when I VPN into the network
remotely I am unable to access the server via it's server name. What is
driving me crazy is the fact that the last of my Windows

Call queues - issues, can't make it work.
Hello there
I have been struggling with queues, because i think this is the right module for our business.
My main goal, is when we receive external calls, the receptionist should be able to transfer the call to us
Technicians, and I am trying to add 2 extensions to a queue name [teknisk]
Extension 301 and 302.
I have a test setup now which I thought should look like this:

Usage monitoring per user
Hi,
There are several programs that will basically take the outputs of your
scans and store the results in a database. If you size the database
appropriately, then querying that database will be much quicker than
querying the filesystem. But of course the results will be a little bit
outdated.
One such project is robinhood. https://github.com/cea-hpc/robinhood/wiki

tools::package_dependencies problems
Hello, All:
tools::package_dependencies('Ecfun') failed to find how my
development version of Ecfun was using rJava, which generated errors in
"R CMD build Ecfun". This is because package_dependencies by default
uses CRAN and ignores locally installed packages.
What do you think about having this function check both locally
installed and CRAN versions?

inconsistent output when using variable substitution
I am extremely puzzled by this behavior in R. I have a data frame called
Trials in which I have results from an experiment. I am trying to do a
subjects analysis, but getting weird results. Each row has 1 trial in it,
which includes a column for the subject number I get the list of subject
numbers like so:
> Subj=unique(sort(Trials$Subj))
Then I loop over them. But I get strange results. As
