facter''s uniqueid is not unique
I have been storing the output of facter in a database with the
assumption that uniqueid was actually unique, until I found that it is
the same for a handful of my machines.
It appears that uniqueid is set from the output of hostid. I checked
into hostid and it gets its value from gethostid(). The following link,

RE: [R] Mapping actual to expected columns for princomp object
[Re-directing to R-devel, as I think this needs changes to the code.]
Can I suggest a modification to stats:predict.princomp so that it will check
for column (variable) names?
In src/library/stats/R/princomp-add.R, insert the following after line 4:
if (!is.null(cn <- names(object$center))) newdata <- newdata[, cn]
Now Dana's example looks like:
> predict(pca1, frz)

Changes to batchSOM from 1.9.1 to 2.0.1
Has the algorithm used by batchSOM for hexagonal topology changed in some
way between R 1.9.1 and 2.0.1? In comparing between the two versions, I
get identical results for rectangular topology, but very different results
for hexagonal topology. (I tried to find release notes for the VR bundle
that might explain the changes, but was unable to locate these anywhere.)

Mapping actual to expected columns for princomp object
I am working with data sets in which the number and order of columns
may vary, but each column is uniquely identified by its name. E.g.,
one data set might have columns
MW logP Num_Rings Num_H_Donors
while another has columns
Num_Rings Num_Atoms Num_H_Donors logP MW
I would like to be able to perform a principal component analysis (PCA)
on one data set and save the PCA object to

Auto drop list: Create a form professional or easy?
Hi all,
I''m searching for a method to dynamically build a form. ( false/true field in
the DB should automatically be a droplist)
If you use "_form.rhtml" it works easy, with only this code in your partial,
but uses the extra file, and doesn''t feel profi and flexible.
<%= start_form_tag :action => ''create_product'' %>

Sip or IAX device with professional balanced audio out
Hi all,
I've been googling for a solution here and haven't really come up with
anything yet. We're doing an Asterisk install for a local radio station,
and we're looking for a phone that they can use in their control room
hooked up to their mixer board for recording calls. So, when you phone
in for some contest or to request a song they record it and play it back

how can I access to a sambaserver from a w2k-client. I've installed the
latest sambaversion.
On the w2k-client I see the sambaserver in the networksurrounding but I

Crash with R1.7.0 + Windows XP Professional
Dear R-Help,
I've had some problems installing the R 1.7.0 binary on Windows XP
Professional. If I launch R from the Start Menu or the Desktop, R crashes.
However, if I launch by double-clicking on an .RData file, R loads up just
fine. I've never had any problems with previous versions/OS. Has anyone
else encountered this problem?
Thanks!
Simon
