zenoss-puppet module
Hello All,
Has anyone gotten the zenoss module for puppet working? The
installation instructions are somewhat vague. I''m wondering if I need
to create a custom fact in order for it to work.
Thanks,

Migrating away from Nagios
I have to rebuild a new Nagios box and thought this might be a good time
to migrate away. I use snmp mostly for everything but with the fork Nagios
endured I wonder about putting any more effort into the project.
I probably should look at OpenNMS again, but the other options I think might
work are Icinga (Should be trivial to migrate) or Zenoss or maybe even Zabbix?

monitoring puppet
Hi,
I was wondering what people out there are doing to monitor puppetd in
large environments. I''d love to hear what the best practices are around
this.
We have a few hundred hosts and are currently looking at the timestamps
on the yaml files in /var/lib/puppet/yaml/facts/ on puppetmasters to
make sure all clients are alive. Is it true that for a given client the
fact file on the

samba & ACL questions
Greetings,
I seem to have Samba+AD+ACL's working on a RH ES4 server; however, I'm
looking for clarification in regard to how the ACL's differ between
windows and samba... or if they differ?
With windows ACL's, I can give out user permission traverse directory,
but not read its contents. Then I can give said user more permission to
a sub folders contents. Meaning: I

Installing a lot of packages
How can I install a lot (more than 800) of APT packages using an easy
way in puppet? I mean, using some file.txt where I put there the
packages I want to install and my package resource get the list . Is
it possible? Or do I have to put all packages in the package resource?
regards,
Israel.

Shared object packaging in rpm
I whipped up a quick spec to package Zenoss' wmi client and noticed it creates a
libasync_wmi_lib.so.0 and libasync_wmi_lib.so.0.0.1 that their python script would
otherwise copy during its install routine (obviously I wrote a native rpm section for
installation).
Anyone know the naming convention associated with so's when they get compiled,
what is the .0.1 extra file used for, they are

Foreman / external_node.rb
Hello All,
I''m trying to start using external nodes under foreman, and I''m
running into some issues. I have the entries in puppet.conf:
[main]
external_nodes = /etc/puppet/external_node.rb
node_terminus = exec
The enternal_node.rb script is the one that came with foreman:
#!/usr/bin/ruby
# a simple script which fetches external nodes from Foreman

/etc/passwd, shadow, group, hosts
Hello All,
I''m new to puppet, and I''d like to know: Is there a formal best
practices guide for syncing { /etc/passwd, shadow, group, hosts}
across clients from the master? For instance; is it a better practice
to make a hard link to these files and share the link, as opposed to
just sharing the files directly via a target in fileserver.conf?
Inquiring minds want to know...

Foreman / External Nodes -- Node Not found
Hello All,
So I finally got around to start to cut over node definitions
from standard flat files to external nodes (foreman), and getting
error message: "Error 400 on SERVER: Could not find node ''nodename'';
cannot compile" - So basically it can''t pick up the node from the
external node config.
When I test the fetching of the yaml file it seems to work

RFC 5258 violation: incomplete response for "LIST ($OPT RECURSIVEMATCH) ..."
Hi there,
RFC 5258 (IMAP4 LIST command extensions) defines a ?RECURSIVEMATCH?
selection option which ?forces the server to return information about
parent mailboxes that don't match other selection options, but have some
submailboxes that do.? (Section 3.5 makes the requirement even clearer.)
However that's not what Dovecot 2.3.7 does. AFAICT no LIST response is
returned for mailboxes
