puppetd 0.25.4 with puppetmaster 0.24.8?
Our puppetmaster runs 0.24.8 on Ubuntu 9.10. Our clients are either
Ubuntu 9.10 or Ubuntu 8.04.
We''ve just brought up our first Ubuntu 10.04 machine. This machine
installs puppetd 0.25.4.
The Ubuntu 10.04 machine can''t seem to present it''s certificate request
properly.
In my masterhttp.log, I see

reports without puppetmaster/puppetd
It appears that --report only works to send reports to puppetmaster.
Is there a way or could an option be added to have the puppet client print
out it''s report to stdout or stderr, for folks who are using puppet without
the puppetmaster/puppetd?
Thanks,
Abe

puppetmaster built via puppetd
hi,
i''m trying to set up my puppetmaster infrastructure with multiple
puppetservers behind load balancers in each of our datacenters. i''m
using 0.24.6. i''ve read the howto on puppet scalability, and i think
i''ve got the ssl config working correct, but i''m noticing that when
puppetd is used to build a puppetmaster, some of the files in $vardir/

puppetd slow, if master is on another host inside same LAN - newbie question
Hello all,
I am new to puppet and I currently just use it during development - just two
hosts. I only manage distribution of files/permissions with it.
I am wondering why puppetd is running slowly on one of these machines.
Google told me that File with "recurse => true" will make things run slowly.
I use "recurse => true" :(
Now I want to find out now if the slowdown I

problems with puppetmaster using intermediate CA cert
Hi,
I''m trying to develop a manifest to setup a new puppet master. To solve
the SSL certificates I''ve created a root CA outside of puppet, and have
generated an intermediate CA for the new puppet master to use. I''ve also
configured my puppetmaster daemon to use it''s own ssl directory. So the
new puppetmaster is at the same time a client of the old puppet

Puppetmaster be client of another puppetmaster?
Is is possible to have a puppetmaster that is a client of a different
puppetmaster? We manage our customers'' server via puppet, but one customer
has a puppetmaster server which looks after their internal systems. We''ve
tried the following in /etc/puppet/puppet.conf ("customer" and "us"
replacing the domain names) on their puppetmaster:

Puppetrun denied by puppetd
Hi,
I have a Gentoo server running puppetmasterd from Puppet 0.24.1 and a
Ubuntu server running puppetd from Puppet 0.23.2.
I have added listen=true to the [puppetd] section on the client and run
puppetd --debug. I then run puppetrun --debug --host hostname on the
puppetmaster server. This is the output I get:
Puppetmaster:
# puppetrun --debug --host hostname
Failed to load ruby LDAP library.

pupped on the puppetmaster: cert problems
I''m getting certificate errors when I attempt to run puppetd on the
puppetmaster.
As near as I can tell, this is because I''m using the same puppet.conf
for both puppetd and puppetmasterd; but puppetmaster runs as user
"puppet" and puppetd runs as user "root", yet both expect the
certificates to be readable and chmod 600. I tried telling puppetd to

last version of puppetd that will work with ruby 1.6.8 (RHEL3)
Hello...
What is the last version of puppet that will work with ruby version
1.6.8? I have a few RHEL 3 machines I would like to run puppetd (only
the client, not puppetmaster). They will be updated to RHEL 5 fairly
soon, so I don''t want to spend a lot of time trying to get a more recent
version of ruby on them.
thanks

service won't restart puppetd
I''ve got the following class that runs if I activate the repo in
/etc/yum.conf. If I run "puppetd -t" from the command line it will
restart puppetd fine. If I let the class run on it''s own as a deamon
puppetd does not restart. The puppetmaster on the other hand does
restart using either method. I ran the client in "--debug" but that
doesn''t seem to

cvs export on puppetmaster box
Hello
I am thinking that it is better to do a cvs export of a project once,
on the puppetmaster box, rather than do the same cvs export on all
puppet clients, yes?
If so, how does one do this? Do you run puppetd on the same box as
puppetmasterd and set up the cvs export as an exec for only the node
with the same hostname as the puppetmaster?
Thanks

"server" config option (and cmd-line option) don''t do anything for puppetd?
Hi guys,
Unlike what it says in the documentation and the --help output, I
can''t seem to get puppetd to use the --server setting. The only way I
can get puppetd to work is to include a ''puppet'' alias to the ip of
the machine I''m running puppetmasterd on in my hosts file.
The strange thing though, is that the logs of my puppetmaster show
that it *is* getting

Puppetmaster wierdness
Anybody else experience the need to restart puppetmasterd before a node can
register itself.
I''ve been cleaning up my installation here on client nodes and every once
and a while I find myself needing to restart the puppetmaster daemon. A
client node attempts to connect and never does. A restart fixes things.
There doesn''t seem to be anything useful in the error messages

puppetmaster.freshness, 500 Internal Server Error
I''m getting the following error when trying to run puppetd on the
server. I''m using version 0.23.2 from the dlutter repo. The OS is
RHEL 5. Any idea what this is? I see reference to namespaceauth.conf
regarding this problem but I can''t find anything definitive.

puppetmaster can''t found the node''s hostname ?
hi,all.
I found a interesting problem. first ,a new node run the puppetd
to connect the puppet server, then was treated as "default" node.
that''s right.
Then I add the new node''s hostname in a node define. and run the
puppetd ,is still get the default manifests file. But when I restart
the pupppuetmaster, then it can get the new manifests file to
correspond

puppetd 0.24.7-r1 has lots of close_wait connections
Hi folks
I know that has, to some degree, been run over the past year in different
ways, but, I may have yet another instance of an issue on this.
The puppetmaster system and the puppet system are both running 0.24.7-r1,
on a gentoo system. Other puppet systems are running 0.24.4.
The puppet system (not the puppetmaster system) that is running 0.24.7-r1
is showing multiple close_wait

Problem with puppetd --listen
Hello all,
I have a little problem with the --listen option.
Id like my client servers to update only when I run puppetrun on the
puppetmaster server. So far, I tried:
puppetd --listen --server mymasterserver -v (on the client server)
Then:
puppetrun --host myclientserver
The updates runs ok... but the client check for updates again every 30
mins or so and I dont want him to do so. I tried:

Puppetd stops when the puppermaster doesn't answer
Hi,
Since upgrading from 0.24 to 0.25, I''ve seen repeatedly puppetd clients
just stop when they''re unable to reach the puppetmaster for a while.
With the normal logging level, they just seem to stop without writing
anything in their log.
I''ve seen this with 0.25.1rc1, rc2 and final, which are all of the
0.25.x I''ve tried (always with the same version on

Best Practice: how to organize puppetmaster directories?
Hi,
While puppet creates its own directories for internal stuff (puppetca,
state, etc.), there''s a fair bit of latitude given to where things like
manifests and uploaded files live. I didn''t get much guidance from the
docs when I first set things up so I mostly poked at things until the
worked. Take a look at the following and let me know if this looks
reasonable; if so, it

Vmware guest can''t connect to puppetmaster on host
My setup is as follows:
I am running Vmware Server on Ubuntu Feisty. This is the puppetmaster.
I am running a guest of Ubuntu Gutsy. This is the puppet.
When I try to run puppetd on the guest I get the expected message
"notice: Did not recieve certificate"
Going back to the server and running "puppetca --list" does not list any
requests. As a hunch I telneted the hosts
