managing users from smbpasswd rather than /etc/passwd
I have samba installed on a web server (behind a firewall). It's working fine with all the WINS networking here (eg, password authentication from the NT servers, etc). I (we) want this web server - a linux redhat 5.x box currently running samba-1.9.18p8 - to have as few actual unix login accounts as possible. What I want/need to do is to allow LOTS of people in the faculty here

how to contrast with factorial experiment
Hello, R experts, If I understand Ted's anwser correctly, then I can not contrast the mean yields between sections 1-8 and 9-11 under "Trt" but I can contrast mean yields for sections 1-3 and 6-11 because there exists significant interaction between two factors (Trt:section4, Trt:section5). Could I use the commands below to test the difference between sections 1-3 and 6-11 ?

Incompatibility with free version
First off, I am not a subscriber, so please CC replies to my email address. The problem I am having -- I do not know who is to blame, but am just covering all angles. I run OpenSSH 2.1.1 on FreeBSD. When I try to connect to a server running ssh2d from ftp.ssh.com, it fails saying corrupted MAC on input. I am including a log of my connection below: % ssh -v -l diwanh tomcat SSH Version

portmap vulnerability?
Are there any known vulnerabilities in portmap (redhat''s portmap-4.0-7b)? I''ve been receiving a lot of attempts to access the portmap port on some linuxppc machines I administer by various machines which clearly have no business with mine, and I wonder if this is an attempt to break in to my machines. I''ve searched some archives, but I haven''t yet found any

how to constrast with factorial experiment
Hello, R users, I have two factors (treat, section) anova design experiment where there are 3 replicates. The objective of the experiment is to test if there is significant difference of yield between top (section 9 to 11) and bottom (section 9 to 11) of the fruit tree under treatment. I found that there are interaction between two factors. I wonder if I can contrast means from levels of

astcc with multiple access
I'm looking at astcc and it seems that setting up a script that will allow multiple people to access a calling card simultaneously would be fairly difficult. Before I endevour to develop this, has anyone already done it/looked at this/can point me in the right direction? Thanks. -- Mike Nugent <asterisk@illuminatus.org>

probabilty plot
Hi all, I am a freshman of R,but I am interested in it! Those days,I am learning pages on NIST,with url http://www.itl.nist.gov/div898/handbook/eda/section3/probplot.htm, I am meeting a problem about probability plot and I don't know how to plot a data set with R. Could somebody tell me the answer, and a example is the best! I will look forward to your answer. Thank you very much.

bihistogram plots
Does anyone have code to plot bihistograms in R? "normal probability plot" with a percentile scale?
I'd like to generate some plots like you'd see on the old "normal probability graph paper", like the first plot in: <http://www.itl.nist.gov/div898/handbook/eda/section3/normprpl.htm> except the horizontal scale would have 1%, 5%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 95%, 99%, or similar quantiles, with associated tick/grid lines. [still hunting around for a good example...] something like

problem with shadow suit in RH5.2 ??
I am by no means an expert along these lines, but should the following small program lock out (for 60 seconds) elements of the shadow suit such as chsh ?? ------------------------ #include <stdlib.h> #include <shadow.h> void main() { if(lckpwdf()) { printf("Failed to get password locks\n"); exit(0); }

matching a sequence in a vector?
Hi All, I've been trawling through the documentation and listserv archives on this topic -- but as yet have not found a solution. I'm sure this is pretty simple with R, but I cannot work out how without resorting to ugly nested loops. As far as I can tell, grep, match, and %in% are not the correct tools. Question: given these vectors -- patrn <- c(1,2,3,4) exmpl <-

Tripwire mess..
This may be, or may not be a security issue, however, since alot of people still use tripwire-1.2 or lesser versions(this is what shipped with R.H. Linux 5.2 at least), they might be interested in following detail: Chuck Campbell (campbell@neosoft.com) pointed me out that tripwire dies with coredump on R.H. linux, if it hits a filename containing 128-255 characters. Playing a bit with debugger I

chisq.test() as a goodness of fit test
Dear R-Users, How can I use chisq.test() as a goodness of fit test? Reading man-page I?ve some doubts that kind of test is available with this statement. Am I wrong? X2=sum((O-E)^2)/E) O=empirical frequencies E=expected freq. calculated with the model (such as normal distribution) See: http://www.itl.nist.gov/div898/handbook/eda/section3/eda35f.htm for X2 used as a goodness of fit test. Upgrade from 2.2.8a to 3.0.1 issues
Greetings, Yesterday, I attempted to migrate my existing samba file server, running 2.2.8a on Linux (2.4.23), which provides file sharing services to a Windows NT domain with approximately 150 users. It has been working well for over a year now, and other upgrades have gone off without a hitch. The samba server connects to a windows NT PDC. The relevent snip from my smb.conf file is:

R: chi-Squared distribution in Friedman test
Hi, pchisq -> distribution function dchisq -> density function pval is the area under the curve, to calculte it you use distribution function which is the integral of density function. See: http://www.itl.nist.gov/div898/handbook/eda/section3/eda362.htm http://mathworld.wolfram.com/DistributionFunction.html f(x) density function F(x) distribution function =Pr(X<x)= integral(f(x))

R: log-normal distribution and shapiro test
Hi, from what you're writing: "The logaritmic transformation "shapiro.test(log10(y))" says: W=0.9773, p-value= 2.512e-05." it seems the log-values are not distributed normally and so original data are not distributed like a log-normal: the p-value is extremally small! Other tests for normality are available in package: nortest compare the log-transformation of your ecdf

formatting date strings
Hi all I am a relatively new R user so please excuse this question if it has been covered some where else, just tell me where to find it. I have a simulation model that out puts dates in a standard dd/mm/yy format R reads this as a factor and I cant find anything that will allow me to convert them to a date. In S+ I have used a chron() function that required you to specify the format of the
