ICMP
After the recent attacks on the major servers on the web my ISP has
decided to stop all ICMP messages from his ISP.
I have red the RFCs and it seems that he cant do that... As a result
pings and traceroutes will not work.
I need a friendly person out there to tell me a way to break the news to
him that he has to allow ICMP packets
through his network... any suggestions would be helpfull

4.3.11-Ubuntu fail to add DC to a AD domain
yes, I tried working with samba wiki and quad-verifying what is recommended
to be checked.
OK, I'll try to join using 18.04.
the samba_dnsupdate tool does not have the --use-samba-tool option in

ShieldsUp scan
Hi,
I''m a home user who doesn''t understand the workings of the Shorewall
firewall (or the linux OS on which I''ve just installed it) very well.
Having just installed Shorewall 1.4.6c with a default "home user"
configuration I gave it a run against the online ShieldsUp scan.
Main surprise was that the ICMP echo was enabled. I''ve since gone into

Memory usage bar plot
Hi,
I haven't tried the code yet. Is there a way to parse this data
using R and create bar plots so that each program's 'RAM used' figures are
grouped together.
So 'uuidd' bars will be together. The data will have about 50 sets. So if
there are 100 processes each will have about 50 bars.
What is the recommended way to graph these big barplots ? I am looking

Loosing mouse pointer on centos 4.1
I have a dell inspiron 8200 laptop . Install went fine.
After booting and using my laptop for a while my mouse pointer
just disappears.
Any ideas?
Any way to restart my mouse pointer?
I tried doing CTL-ALT+F1
and ALT_F7 thinking that would reinitialize the mouse but no.
Only thing that works is reboot.
THanks,
Jerry

Restarting mouse services
I move my notebook around my office. Sometimes I am using the internal
pointers, sometimes a USB mouse, and sometimes a USB keyboard/mouse
adapter that is plugged into a kvm (actually two of them).
With one of these USB k/m adapters, when I plug in, the system fails to
recognize the mouse (but no problem with the keyboard). The 2 adapters
are the same brand/model (Aten), but the KVMs are

4.3.11-Ubuntu fail to add DC to a AD domain
Rowland, thank you for answering!
I have investigated this a bit, and I think that using 18.04 for the new DC
will not be successful anyway. Reasons: the AD I have has been created back
in the days when 14.04 LTS was fresh. The provisioning scripts worked
differently. 14.04 has been upgraded to 16.04, and I think that I do not
have all of the DNSes configured properly and this might be the cause

More issues with xl on 4.1.0-rc
I have spotted another couple of bugs when testing with xl on 4.1.0-rc and
a xen/next-2.6.38 based kernel.
If I use pygrub as a boot loader and run xl create -c host then
the console disconnects once pygrub is finished. I can reconnect to the
console session but it is a bit annoying to have to do so.
If I set vfb = [ ''sdl'' ] in the configuration file, then I can type in the

kerberos got crazy after ubuntu upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04
Hi!
I had to upgrade my PDC from 14.04 to 16.04 Ubuntu. The samba version
stayed the same, but then some crazy miracles started to
happen. 4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.6
I cannot log in now with my Windows machines, yet I can view the files on
Linux using smbclient.
My smb.conf

workgroup = Gsomething
realm = BIURO.domain
netbios name = PDC
