IPsec, VPN and FreeBSD
Hi:
We intend to build IPSec based VPN server on FreeBSD
platform so that we can access internal network of a
lab. The remote side will use VPN client and could be
from anywhere of the Internet, or may be from the
another site of the company. From the hnadbook, I saw
the sample of site-to-site configurations and we do
have one FreeBSD firewall (running ipfw) on both site
and another one on

Down the MPD road
Well, after working through the various options it looked like MPD would be my
best bet here. I've got it sort of working, but there's obviously some
tweaky I'm missing here.
Recap of the scenario:
Full class C of static IPs segmented into 3 networks. Outside, DMZ, Inside.
Trying to get remote Windows users through securely to the Inside.
Remote users have dynamic IPs.

BIND 9.4.3-P1: internal_send: 199.7.83.42#53: Device not configured, where 199.7.83.42 is RANDOM IP address
Hello, Freebsd-stable.
BIND on my new router (7.1-STABLE, BIND 9.4.3-P1) shows bunch of
errors on every start and doesn't answer on requests for 30-60 seconds
after that. Errors are like this:

machine network interfaces, dhcpd.conf, and zone files
I''m still thinking about how my puppet deployment will go. Right now,
I''m thinking each of my machines will have their network interfaces
defined/configured by puppet. But, I''d like to generate my zone files
and dhcpd.conf from this data as well.
How do people generally do this? I expect I''ll end up generating the
nodes.pp files from some database, but

CentOS VPN server for iPhone
So far, OpenVPN has been working very well for me. Unfortunately, the
iPhone doesn't have (yet?) an OpenVPN client, so I'm forced to work with
what's available.
The options are: L2TP, PPTP and IPSec. If you were to install a VPN
endpoint on CentOS, which protocol would you prefer? The condition is to
avoid shabby VPN servers that make the system less secure. I've seen

I want to connect to a l2tp server from centos.
I have a server currently connecting to a pptp remote server.
This server(lns\lac) has the option for pptp connections and l2tp
connections.
The l2tp connections are not using ipsec encryption at all.
I have seen couple guides\tutorials on the internet:

I want to connect to a l2tp server from centos.
Hey John,
I do not require encryption at all, it's a secure and internal channel
but it requires me to connect via either pptp or l2tp.
This is the reason I am asking.
I had the chance of finding the SoftEther Project which gives a lot in
terms of VPN Client and Server.
At:
http://www.softether-download.com/en.aspx
But yet to try it.
Also they have all sorts of beta versions but not

dynamic IPSEC: Holy grail sighted
Hi,
Thanks to some pointers from Christian Kratzer, I am now able to join the
office VPN from a random WiFi hotspot. With the configuration files changes
detailed below, from a public WiFi hotspot I can now use this 3 step
procedure to login to the office VPN.
1) While at hotspot, boot up my -STABLE laptop.
2) Insert wireless card.
3) "rsh server"
This procedure works for a DHCP

I'm listening to FLAC on my ipod!
Just to let you guys know, I've been listening to FLAC (compression
level 2 or lower) tunes on my 3rd generation ipod running ipodlinux
(modified uCLinux) for the past few days. No skips or slow-downs
whatsoever using MPD to play music.
It's pretty cool to be able to use my iPod for the first time in 7
months. (I could've dual-booted the Apple firmware, but nearly all my
music is in

IPSEC/L2TP Local and External Internet Access at same time through two interfaces?
Hey
First, apologies if this went out twice. I sent the original email from an odd email configuration (essentially from an alias of what I signed up as). I searched and noticed that my post did not appear and I did not get a bounce back so I was confused. I waited a few days before resending. So apologies if this goes out twice. I am not trying to spam.
I was hoping someone could help me with

Using MPD as an Icecast source (hint: using jack helps)
I thought I should report this: (In my case at least) defining a "jack"
output for mpd caused a "shout" output to become operational.
I was trying to configure mpd with a "shout" output to feed my Icecast2
server, but with no luck.
Giving up, I fell back to option 2: Feeding my mpd output to darkice using
"jack" as an interface.

Choosing VPN Server
Hi,
I am facing a task of choosing vpn server. I do not know which is better.
The one distributed with CentOS4.5 only supports pppd (or maybe pptp but I
cannot find it).
If* *I want to use PPTP or L2TP, which one should I choose? OpenVPN? Poptop?
Thanks.
