Workstations and Certs
I am trying to come up with a workable solution in managing numerous Mac workstations allowing a high degree of flexibility with regards to certs. My puppet environment is setup to application installation on machines that have been ''imaged'' with a base OS and the puppet and facter apps. So, when a Mac is ''imaged'' and subsequently re-booted, puppet is run at

Puppet deployment and upgrading itself?
I just got approval to deploy puppet to about 1500 Macs! Now I have to actually do it. I''m considering two options. We have a security tool we use that is a Mac application and is already installed on all our Macs. Since it''s a Mac app, it''s basically a folder (a .app folder). I''m wondering if I can just install puppet into the .app directory, that way

Input sought on changing default vardir on OS X.
0.25.5 changed the default vardir from /var/puppet to /var/lib/puppet and it''s caused the odd issue we have to fix in the Mac pkg preflights. After re-reading ''man hier'' I''m tempted to change the default on OS X to: /var/db/puppet instead. /var/ multi-purpose log, temporary, transient, and spool files ...

How best to monitor puppet?
We want to use Nagios to monitor out puppet server so we can be notified if it goes down. We are using Fusion Passenger and Apache on Red Hat. how to exec a directory creation before downloading a file to that directory?
I want to create a directory and THEN get files into that directory on a client. Puppet it seems does not follow the order of commands, like below in my example. Sometimes it creates the directory, then downloads the file, and sometimes it tries to download the file before creating the directory, so the file won''t be downloaded. How can I download a file and make certain the destination

[Very OT] Steve Jobs, is he sick?
For us "Railers" on Mac systems we all probably watched Steve Job''s keynote at the WWDC yesterday. Was it just me, or did Steve look "sick"? I mean he has lost a lot of weight and his skin was very drawn. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

tweaking Passenger/Rack for performance.
so here are my unorganized thoughts on Passenger settings. * PassengerMaxPoolSize This depends a lot on two primary variables. a) How much RAM you have. b) How much resident memory is needed for your environments/modules. Only way to determine this is with tweaking, and you''ll need to be much more conservative than the suggested settings on the Passenger docs as your app takes up a lot

suprising behaviour of tryCatch()
Hello, I run a fisher.test() in a loop, with the issue that some of the data will not be useable. To protect the loop I used tryCatch but: sexsnp = rep(NA, 1750) for(i in 1:1750){tryCatch(sexsnp[i] = fisher.test(table(data[,3], data[,i + 38]))$p, error = function(e) print(NA))} Error: unexpected '=' in "for(i in 1:1750){tryCatch(sexsnp[i] =" But this works: for(i in

Factor questions
Hello, I''m new to puppet and facter. Initially we are planning on using facter/puppet to inventory machines (Mac, Ubuntu, and RHEL). We plan on writing a number of custom facts. Obviouly some of the facts will only be specific to some OSs. I know there is a "confine" method, but it confuses me. It seems the confine statement in some of the recipes and in the Turnbull book is

How to Join Mac OSX workstation as AD domain member
Does anyone know how to join a Mac OSX (High Sierra 10.13.5) workstation to a Samba4 domain, or know of a wiki/howto document describing this process? Web searches have turned up plenty of info on running OSX as a Samba4 server, but I can't find anything on joining as a domain member. I do believe I've actually joined (Bind in apple-speak) the workstation itself to the domain using the

[LLVMdev] LLVM Logo
Hi All, I'm happy to announce that Apple has agreed to let llvm.org (and anyone else) use the great LLVM logo they designed for WWDC. If you're interested, you can see the full version of the logo on this page: http://llvm.org/Logo.html I personally think that this is a pretty great logo/mascot for LLVM, because it is very abstract, can be adapted in a variety of ways, is
