I write something like: class admins { @user { "username": ... } @ssh_authorized_key { "username": ensure => present, key => "...",

access to databases in puppet - best practice?
Hello! In my puppet configuration I need to get some data from database. Ie.: I''ve got information about my all hosts in db - thier name, mac addresses, ip addresses, what to backup from this host etc. For now it''s just .xml file, but it could be sql db, or ldap directory. Then, using this small "database", I want to generate configuration using puppet - ie.:

"fakeing" exported resources - is that possible
Hello! I''m trying to solve small problem - linux server AND windows clients AND managing this using puppet :) As far as I know puppet don''t work under windws, but I''m still using it on linux side. And I need some information from windows machines - ie.: info about what should I backup from each one. Of course one solution is to port puppet to windows - but for

Complex data structures in templates
Hi. I wonder if it is possible to use more complex data structures in templates than simple variables and arrays? I have been trying nested arrays, as well as nested arrays and hashes, but nothing seems to work (more specifically, nested arrays seem to be flattened into a single array). Having only simple variables and arrays is a little limiting. Something like the Perl-based Template Toolkit

Still need help with ticket triage
As everyone probably realizes, I''m getting swamped with incoming problems and tickets and I still need help triaging the tickets. James Turnbull has volunteered to help some, but I think we need more than one person. We''ve had a few people step in once or twice, but I''d like to be able to depend on Unreviewed tickets getting handled by someone else, rather

multiple files with same attributes
I''m almost afraid to ask because this probably sticks out like a sore thumb on the wiki somewhere, and I''m just not seeing it. But I have a bunch of files with the same owner/mode. Is there a way to somehow collapse these, so that all I repeat is the file name? Example: file { "/opt/test/1": owner => "jtan", group =>

Dragonfly and Zip uploads
I''m poring through the Dragonfly source code right now, trying to get a handle on how to apply the following technique there: Client uploads a Zip archive containing N images, PDF files, text files, etc. When that file arrives at the server, but before it is stored as an attachment to the current object, the Zip is burst open, contents are iterated over, and each contained file is saved

/proc/xen/memory_target patch
This patch to the balloon driver eliminates the need for a user-space program to slosh memory between domains and xen. This uses a proc file at /proc/xen/memory_target. When read it reports memory the domain owns in bytes. Writing a new value to the memory_target proc file will cause the domain to exchange memory with xen to reach the target. A xenolinux domain cannot grow bigger than it was

Prebinding for DragonFly/FreeBSD-4
I created patch for DragonFly/FreeBSD-4 for prebinding, based on mdodd@'s patch for FreeBSD-5. The main difference (apart from the target platform) is that the linker needn't be patched. Rtld now uses a hash function to get an unique ID for every ELF object. This has been tested under DragonFly, but should run on FreeBSD-4 too. Feedback appreciated :) cheers simon -- /"\

wine-0.9.15 & winetools problems.
Hello, I built wine-0.9.15 today. It installs and works to a small extent that I tested it. I then attempted to install and run winetools and had some problems. If anyone sees what I'm doing wrong please let me know. Thanks. 1) Install wine 2) Run 'wine notepad' to create initial .wine directory. Notepad opens. mark@dragonfly ~ $ wine notepad wine: creating configuration directory

Announcing DragonFly BSD!
Announcing DragonFly BSD! http://www.dragonflybsd.org/ Hello everyone! For the last few months I have been investigating and then working on a new approach to the BSD kernel. This has snowballed into a far more ambitious project which is now ready for wider participation. It is the intent of this project to take over development of the 4.x tree, to move kernel
