puppet class syntax error
I''m in the process of setting up our puppet environment, and am creating dummy classes so that I can test/use our node classification script, however my dummy classes are throwing the following error. puppetmasterd[3908]: Could not parse for environment production: Syntax error at ''Stage_cis2'' at /etc/puppet/manifests/classes/ Stage_cis2.pp:2 As you see, the actual

Is it possible to conditionally replace a file ?
As far as I can tell, the "replace" parameter is all or nothing. What I am looking for is something like the exec/onlyif parameter that I can use to conditionally replace a file. Any thoughts ? “Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.” Bill Waterson (Calvin & Hobbes) -- You received this

Inherited Client and Server Apps
So, I''ve been doing something like this for applications that have a client and server component... node base_node { include syslog_ng::client }} node app_node inherits base_node { } node syslog_server inherits base_node { include syslog_ng::server } ... because I want the client portion, syslog-ng in this case to be installed on everything. However, the server node also has a

Class dependency question
So I have two classes for openvz setup. The first is openvz::setup and it sets up the box for OpenVZ.. then another class (in same .pp file) called openvz::master sets up the config for the main system (as opposed to a VE). The error I see is that the openvz::master class is executed (and fails) becuase it doesn''t seem to load up the setup class? debug: Calling puppetmaster.getconfig

replacing mkdir -p
Puppet right now requires every element of a path to have an individual file definition. This makes it had to take an arbitrary path as a parameter. You are forced to require your client to make the entire path structure for you or instead you use an exec resource and call mkdir -p. Using an exec resource does not generate an File resources so autorequire does not work. I didn''t

Conditional with variable from facter
Hi. I have the following facts available: # facter | grep oper operatingsystem => CentOS operatingsystemrelease => 6.2 Now, if I wish to use conditionals on these facts, I have to do it like this: case $operatingsystem {} case $::operatingsystemrelease {} I''m puzzled as to why can''t I just use $operatingsystemrelease, and what do these two semicolons mean? Thank

Puppet v2.7.209 setting permissions recursively
How can I get Puppet to recursively set permissions of a directory, so that the directory and all subdirectories have move 0755 but the files in the directory have mode 0644? When I use the recurse => true option, it sets the files in the directory to executable as well. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. packages and Solaris
Hi folks, I''m about to propose to my current company that we use puppet to manage releases of home grown software. The environment is a mix of Solaris 8/9/10 and RHEL 5&6. I''ve got a handle on how to create recipes to release software into the RHEL environment. The unknown for me is how to manipulate the pkgadd provider to load the locally grown package stream. Can

Puppet First Run after Install failing in module pe_mcollective
I am installing puppet enterprise manager (master) on a RHEL box. Though the install itself succeeds without any issues, the first run of puppet when it tries to deploy the pe_mcollective module fails with the following error. Message: change from notrun to 0 failed: sh -c ''umask 077; keytool - importkeystore -deststorepass puppet -destkeypass puppet -destkeystore broker.ks -srckeystore

Executing check times out
Hi, Just recently two nodes begun to hang, I cant see that there have been any changes in our manifest. Debug output: [...] debug: //Node[X]/X[X]/Exec[create dir]: Executing check ''test \! -d / dir'' debug: Executing ''test \! -d /dir'' [...] Here it hangs for several minutes, executin the statement manually works of course. How Does the Interaction Between Facter, Clients, and the Server work
Group - I''m putting a presentation together for $work (a large .gov) and I want to make sure I get my facts (pun intended) straight ... Are the following steps for Facter-Client-Server interaction correct (I have a feeling not): 1. Client puppet run is initiated (via regular schedule, puppetrun, or puppetd) 2. The client contacts the server and downloads any custom facts it does not

validate_re validation failures
I am using stdlib module''s validate_re function to validate parameters passed to a parameterized class as pasted here: http://pastebin.com/7eYAeLEa . The validation works fine however when I run this manifest locally using ''puppet apply'' command where puppet execution stops if a validation test fails. However when I use it in client-server model then I do see a

puppetlabs-stdlib
I''m confused about this... https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppetlabs-stdlib/ I see a lot of functions there that are the same as the ones that come standard with puppet. If I create a module and dump this stuff in there, what happens to the existing stuff? How does puppet know which one to use? Parameterised Classes in 2.6.0... still no luck
I downloaded the latest version of puppet 2.6.0 today, and still can''t get parameterised classes to work. At least, I think it''s 2.6.0... the version number in the RPM spec file says 0.25.5. This simple example: /etc/puppet/manifests/nodes/pax/name01.pax.xxx.com.pp: node ''name01.pax.xxx.com'' { class { amodule::afunc: version => "1.0" } }
