Installing python eggs using puppet.
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
I''m looking into using puppet to deploy different python applications to
different servers.
I want to be able to sandbox the different applications using virtenv.
A basic setup would be:
1. create user
2. install the virtual environment for that user
- -> as the user: virtualenv /userdir
3. Install package dependencies.

SAMBA 2.07 Question
Hello,
We are currently running SAMBA 2.07 on our AIX 4.3.3 UNIX systems. We just
received the following:
OpenPKG Security Advisory OpenPKG-SA-2003.028: samba - remote root exploit
Does this affect SAMBA 2.07? This is all that I see affected:

Mandatory profile changes languagesetting
Hi,
I've set up a domain where some of my users are using mandatory profiles
to logon to the network. However, I got one problem that just doesn't go
away.
When my users log on, they do not get the correct keyboard setting -
even if it is the same as configured for the mandatory user + all other
users on the client machine. Instead the users get the us-keyboard
settings.
Also the users

Installing R-2.2.0 package
Dear list,
I've just installed R-2.2.0 under Solaris and have a question about
installing packages. If a package fails to install for any reason and I go
to install another package, I get this message:

CIFS + NFS'ing a single filesystem w/ locking
Hi,
I have a Solaris 10 server exporting UFS directories using built-in NFS.
I've built Samba 3.0.20b from OpenPKG (www.openpkg.org). I have a
Solaris 10 (x86) client mounting the NFS share and opening OpenDocument
files using StarOffice 8 (SO8, aka OO2.0). I also have a Windows 2003
Terminal Server mounting the Samba share and opening documents with SO8.
This is a temporary development

DNS and DHCP setup
Hi,
Does anyone know of a document that gives details on how to set up Bind
9 and DHCPD 3.x so that dns is updated when clients log on?
I saw this is not in the howto collection
(http://www.bibsyst.no/samba/docs/man/DNSDHCP.html#id2981727) so I was
kind of hoping someone else has some notes.
I would be greatfull for any tips and links.

pop before smtp
I'm using the latest version of dovecot on my FreeBSD 4.x box with
OpenPKG to keep other services up to date. Now...I'm able to get pbsmtp
to allow relaying through postfix on this server using UW IMAP, but I
would like to get dovecot working with relaying...but pbsmtp is not
adding the ip when I uncomment the dovecot section after I authenticate.
The log is below:

Solr -> Xapian ?
Maybe a dumb question (I admit I haven't followed this thread very closely)...
But why are you writing a new FTS driver? If squat allegedly does everything you need it to do, why don't you just take that plugin and fix it up to do what you need? That seems way easier than trying to create a FTS driver from scratch.

copying from Win to Linux
Hi, I'm about to migrate a lot of files from a windows server to a new,
shiny samba-server.
I just got a small problem : What is the best way to do this?
I'e tried rsync, but it croaks on some files with names like "somethign
:some.eml" the same does cp.
What I'm wondering about, is has anyone else had these problems, and if
so, how did you solve them? Do you have a

[OT] DNSmasq - a simple solution for DNS and DHCP
Hi,
I would like to make Sambaadmins aware of the simple and powerfull program
dnsmasq.
It makes setting up a caching dnsserver + dhcp-server that maps local machines
to the local domain a breeze, something that is missing in the samba howto
collection (http://www.bibsyst.no/samba/docs/man/DNSDHCP.html#id2981727).
I've been running it for two months now, so I felt it was time to recomend

new to puppet - can puppet push its content to remote servers?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
I was made aware of puppet a few weeks ago and I really like the way
things are working.
What I liked at cfengine was the capability to push content from the
central server to any node. There was no need to open a port from DMZ or
any other remote system to the central server.
Is there a similar way within puppet?
How is this solved by other

Question regarding guest account =
Hi,
I experiemented a bit with the guest account parameter the other day,
and I some questions:
a) It seems to me that if you turn this parameter on, the user will be
used when someone browses the domain without beeing a domain member, is
this a true observation?
(Don't answer this one, I checked the manual and it said yes).
b) It also seems that the guestuser must have a sambaSid that

Base ldap access file.
Hi,
Having set up a few Samba-ldap installations, I always end up with the
feeling that OpenLDAP ACLs is what took time. The following patches /
scripts might help someone else.
I would appreciate some input on the access.conf.pl file so that it is
even better tuned.

file coruption bug.
Hi,
I'm running a samba server version 2.2.3a compiled from source. The
server has been up running now since august.
Now, I've suddenly been hit by a vierd bug. Several files that were
opened by NT clients has been corupted. How? THE samba logs has been
written into the files!!
Obviusly this is a major problem. Has anyone suffered this problem ? Has
it been fixed?

Is it possible not to have ou=Computers?
Hi,
I seem to remember somewhere that Samba 3 can be configured so that you
do not need real users for computers, that these users only exists in
some tdb database.
How is this possible?
Can someone describe how to do this?
Many thanks,
Tarjei Huse
