Convert from FBSD
I would like to load OpenSolaris on my file server. I have previously loaded FBSD using zfs as the storage file system. Will OpenSolaris be able to import the pool and mount the file system created on FBSD or will I have to recreate the the file system. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

Replace Cisco IOS/CBOS with freebsd - possible?
Greetings, I'm RP for a fairly large chunk of IP real estate. I carved out a /27 segment for my home network. Which is currently running over a cisco 837 GW (adsl/router). I'm not really keen on it (the router/modem). So I thought to myself that it couldn't be /that/ hard to build a box with FBSD that could replace it - am I crazy? Wouldn't it be possible to upload a minimal build

[OT] Corporate Firewall
Hey, The company I work for is in the market for a new firewall. Right now we're hosting all of our own stuff (on CentOS servers) behind an old checkpoint firewall. I think Checkpoint is overkill for our needs and very expensive, plus I don't like the "per-user" charges of some commercial solutions. What do you guys suggest that we upgrade to? Here are some of the

dovecot / tcp-wrappers / FBSD 10.3
Can anyone share the proper config to get wrappers working in dovecot on FreeBSD? The dovecot examples do not seem to work, and I thought perhaps FBSD needs slightly different configs. I've compiled with: -DHAVE_LIBWRAP which I presume is the first step. The example for dovecot.conf in uncommenting: login_access_sockets = tcpwrap merely causes a log error of "imap-login: Error:

Port Forwarding Trouble with Mandrake MNF
Please excuse my ignorance as I''m a linux newbie. ntop from rpmforge
I don't know why I haven't signed up for this list before since we use CentOS all over the place. The list is very useful and it is good for me to participate and "give back" to the community. Anywho, I wanted to post this response to a thread that was created back in November 2008 about the ntop daemon failing to start. I'm currently setting up ntop as a NetFlow &

Rearranging the furniture....
Hi Tom and All, I have been quietly watching the list for the last year (no new issues for me that weren''t covered in the docs or promptly "bug-fixed" by Tom. Boy, has this grown exponentially! Anyway, back to the point (the proverbial rearranging the furniture)... I have been evaluating Mandrake''s MNF as an upgrade for my Firewall box. If I do this( and even if I

Anyone running ntop on FBSD5.4
If you are running ntop on 5.4, what compile options? Use ports version? Or surgefile tarball? It makes a great security forensics tools, but I can't get it to stop segfaulting. Was wondering if anyone found a fix for it. -- Michael Scheidell, CTO 561-999-5000, ext 1131 SECNAP Network Security Corporation Take a vacation from spam: http://www.spammertrap.com

SIP NAT + m0n0wall 1:1 mapping
I know a SIP client behind a NAT trying to peer with Asterisk behind another NAT is troublesome. Has anyone had any luck doing this by interfacing Asterisk to the WAN using 1:1 NAT translation to give it a public IP while still firewalled? In my instance I'm using m0n0wall, but this is a hardware-neutral question. Thanks. -- Robert Goodyear Brand Up LLC http://www.brand-up.com

Connecting ethX devices directly to a KVM/QEMU guest OS (no bridging)
Hello CentOS gurus, and a belated Happy New Year (or an early Happy Chinese New Year). I'm in the process of building a CentOS-6 KVM host machine whose only function will be to run four independent 'm0n0wall' firewall guest instances. I have a couple of quad-port Intel NICs to provide four WAN-side and four LAN-side ports, which will not be shared with any other guests. Remote

dovecot / tcp-wrappers / FBSD 10.3
# Space separated list of login access check sockets (e.g. tcpwrap) #login_access_sockets = login_access_sockets = tcpwrap service tcpwrap { unix_listener login/tcpwrap { group = $default_login_user mode = 0600 user = $default_login_user } } I believe that's all. I had placed it all in /usr/local/etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf. On Mon, Nov 14, 2016 at 11:45 AM, Jim Pazarena

ZFS Scalability/performance
Hello, I''m quite interested in ZFS, like everybody else I suppose, and am about to install FBSD with ZFS. On that note, i have a different first question to start with. I personally am a Linux fanboy, and would love to see/use ZFS on linux. I assume that I can use those ZFS disks later with any os that can work/recognizes ZFS correct? e.g. I can install/setup ZFS in FBSD, and later use

Problems with Krb5/GSSAPI patches in FBSD 4.3
Hi, I am trying to impliment OpenSSH v2.9p1 with the Krb5/GSSAPI patches at: http://www.sxw.org.uk/computing/patches/openssh-2.9p1-gssapi.patch On a FreeBSD 4.3-STABLE system (with both the integrated Heimdal libs and the MIT Krb5 package from ports intstalled). I patched the src tree, reconfigured, recompiled, installed, and it works - except for Krb5 passwords or Krb5 tickets. And I really

NUT on FBSD 14-2 fails to shut down UPS - select with socket: Invalid argument
*That* command would shut it down, same as `upsdrvctl shutdown` but with a better chance to debug what actually happens in the dialog. Actually with NUT v2.8.2 you can also request debug of drivers via `upsdrvctl -d -DDDDDD shutdown ups_bottom` or some such (`-d` tells it to pass debug flags to driver programs it launches).
