Veractiy and FreeBSD
I'm trying to get veracity (http://www.rocksoft.com/veracity/), a tripwire replacement, working on FreeBSD 5.x. When I try and create a snapshot I get the following error for files sitting on my root partition: -- snip snip -- csh.logout E: Error opening binary (B) stream of file "/etc/csh.logout". (OS error message="File is on the procfs (/proc)

world read permissions on system level files
From: "Biyala, Urvi" <Urvi.Biyala@bankofamerica.com> >I need to trim the world read permissions from the system sensitive files. I know that it would be safe to trim the permissions from many of the configuration files in /etc. But I was not sure if I could safely tighten the permissions form other system files. Does any one know of any documentation on this. Or can any one

Does anyone know anything about this "0-day" ssh vulnerability?
Hi all. I've looked at the archives and it seems to be quiet regarding this supposed "0-day" openssh vulnerability and I'm wondering if anyone here may have some insight or further information regarding it. We've been monitoring things and the amount of speculative info flying around is incredible. Some claim it's the CPNI-957037 issue, thus affecting <5.2, others

[LLVMdev] LLVM based project idea in computer security
Hello, First, I apologize if this is the wrong list for my inquiry. I am a student at UCSB working in Computer Security and I had an idea that would make heavy use of llvm. The idea is to use llvm as an IR / compiler for dynamic binary instrumentation, along the lines of the VEX IR in the valgrind tool. I was wondering if this idea had been previously discussed or if someone is
