Test suite failures in R-devel_2017-02-25_r72256
Hi, I tried compiling the latest pre-release for R 3.3.3 for the NixOS Linux distribution [1], but the build fails during the "make check" phase because of the following 2 issues: 1) The "tools" test in "tests/Examples" requires network access, which it doesn't have in our build environment. Therefore, it fails as follows according to

Samba, rsync and a newbie sorting it out...
All, I'd like to use rsync as a way to back up Windows devices on a network, pulling data off of the Windows boxes and putting it onto a Samba share. Is this even possible? I suspect I either need some sort of rsync implementation on Windows (ha!) or I need to have Samba know to "reach into" the boxes and get the info for rsync-ing. Doable? A fool's errand? The setup:

parse_Rd and/or lazyload problem
I'm encountering problems when making lazy-loadable databases of the output from 'parse_Rd'. The lazy-load database is of seemingly limitless size when I try to reload it... Admittedly I am using functions that I'm not really supposed to use, which is why this isn't a bug report, but there does seem to be something strange going on; my code is very similar to code that lives

R CMD INSTALL and file permission settings
Summary: The directory /usr/local/lib/R/site-library can be used for site-wide multi-user installations of R. This is even the default on Debian and Ubuntu (following a suggestion by Kurt and Fritz a decade ago over beers -- what could be better). However, R enforces wrong permissions on directories and files there (removing group-write) which effectively defeats this purpose,

serializing recordedplot object
I use recordPlot() to save plots to disk that I render later to a variety of formats. This works fine for base R plots and ggplot2 plots, and also used to work for lattice plots. However somewhere in version 2.14 things stopped working for lattice plots. Here is an example: library(lattice); histogram(rnorm(100)); x <- recordPlot(); saveRDS(x, "myplot.rds"); y <-

Easy "Recall" to get ls(..., all.names=TRUE)?
Dear useRs, I have a utility function which is meant to be a clone of ls(), except with the option all.names=TRUE. Currently however, the function merely consists of a copy of the source code of ls(), except the default value of all.names is different. That approach has the drawback of future inconsistency if the code for ls() ever changes. No comment on whether that is likely or not; I would

R CMD check --force-biarch
I'm having problems getting R CMD check to work correctly on Windows 7 (64 bit) in a package that uses C code. What I want to do is to be able to pass the equivalent of the "--force-biarch" option to check, but this is only supported for INSTALL. Background: I'm writing a package (RNetica) which forms a link between R and a third-party library (Netica.dll). The vendor supplies

tools:::fetchRdDB can't allocate memory block?
I'm developing an R package, and when I recompile (using Roxygen), detach, and re-load the package, I can't seem to look at some of its documented functions. When I try '?function.name', I get the following error: Error in tools:::fetchRdDB(RdDB, basename(file)) : cannot allocate memory block of size 2.6 Gb I'm using R.app's built-in documentation viewer. R-2.0.0 and tcltk package

Request to speed up save()
Hi, I am dealing with very large datasets and it takes a long time to save a workspace image. The options to save compressed data are: "gzip", "bzip2" or "xz", the default being gzip. I wonder if it's possible to include the pbzip2 (http://compression.ca/pbzip2/) algorithm as an option when saving. "PBZIP2 is a parallel implementation of the bzip2

Reducing the bitrate without recompressing
Can I reduce the bitrate of an OGG file without recompressing everything? It would be useful to convert high bitrate ogg to lower bitrate ogg for portable players. sapply(Date, is.numeric)
FYI, I've tried posting the below message twice to the bug tracking system, once by email (below), and the second time 5 days later directly to the bugs.r-project.org website. As far as I can tell, the bug tracking system hasn't picked this up. Also it looks like the latest "incoming" bug is dated 25 May 2008, so perhaps others are having difficulty as well. (cc: r-bugs)

Can't install rjags on LinuxMint 12
Hi, I'm trying to install rjags and R2jags with R version 2.14.1 (2011-12-22) on Linux Mint 12 machine using software repository: deb http://cran.fhcrc.org/bin/linux/ubuntu oneiric/ jags seems to install OK, but rjags gives a weird error about not finding fprec symbol. Here is a history of the problem including several attempts to work around it. (Because of Ben Bolker's recent
