rsync alternative -- smbclient?
I, too have been looking into alternatives to the rsync-based sysvol
replication workaround, and really liked the idea of using the
existing Sysvol SMB share, rather than a secondary protocol (with its
own authentication, etc).
When I realized that Andrew Bartlett was a primary developer of both
Samba and Rsync, I was even more surprised that Rsync doesn't support
an smb:// URL.

Samba 4 and nsswitch
Having some difficulties determining which way to go here.
Have an Ubuntu 10.2 server running S4Alpha11. The samba stuff is
working well enough (though with a bit too much idle CPU
consumption--haven't go there yet).
However, I can't get proper responses for file system and user/group
lookup.
With AD in Samba 3 nsswitch.conf was

Self service User Password Change - Samba4
Good Day all
I have successfully upgraded samba 3 to samb4 in our test lab, migrating
from old hardware with Ubuntu 10 to a new machine with Ubuntu 14.4 , after
a bit of fight all went ok :) .
I have now a specific request. Basically we would like to give to the
Domain Users the possibility to change their password in a self service
fashion, possibly through accessing a web page .
I know there

Sysvol Replication in Samba4
Hi,
We installed a samba4 AD controller using Gpo for a small group of users
(5 users), everything is OK.
(Samba4 beta 7 on Ubuntu 12.04)
We installed another Samba4 AD controller as a BDC of the first one with
the command "samba-tool domain join" with succes.
After checking this new installation, we saw that the sysvol share was
not replicated from the PDC and all the Policies are

Roaming Profiles under Linux clients
Hi,
As I configured the Roaming profiles under linux, it more or less generate
an abnormal operation (in less than 2 mins) if I add/copy some files to the
home directory. But for Windows XP and Windows 7 is running smoothly and it
generates folders at the Samba4 server location with corresponding users.
e.g. Administrator (for XP), and Administrator.V2 (for Win7/2008) based on
my observations.

LDAP BDC- Classic Domain
Hi Guys,
We're trying to add a BDC in Samb4 classic domain setup. The Samba 3 How -To and Samb3 by Example covers this but uses the old slapd.conf option, we are using the slapd.d config. I couldn't find a similar document for Samba4
Can you please advise that the following steps will work? LDAP in the existing PDC is working using the smbldap tools

Long story short - very newbie on Linux. Loaded successfully Ubuntu9.10.
Intrigued by Samba, tried to load newest version. Screwed up something, so
tried to uninstall then re-install.
Now getting "Could not launch samba" with message 'Failed to execute child
process "/usr/lib/samba/ldb/samba3sam.so" (no such file or directory).
Version is 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.4

domain trusts
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello,
I need a domain-trust between an old samba3-Domain with openLDAP and a
new Samb4 Domain with AD. As far as I know domaintrusts are not
possible with 4.1 but should be possible with 4.2. Is there a place
were I can look it up if and how it'll work?

Samba4: 2DC domain. Which ldap:// address do I use, DC1 or DC2?
2 Samb4 DC's joined and replicating great.
Hi
I'm running some Linux scripts on DC2 which I copied from DC1.
I changed the ldap://address for a script which I copied to DC2 to that
of DC2. If I now deliberately failover DC1, the script on DC2 complains
that the ldap addresss is invalid.
Do I keep the scripts at the same ldap://address on BOTH DC's? Is, that
correct?
Cheers,
Steve

rsync alternative -- smbclient?
As you may have noticed I am looking into containers? in order to minimize configuration I also started looking into options for sysvol replication. I am aware of the list at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/SysVol_replication_(DFS-R) Ignoring the robocopy option, essentially all of them use rsync, w/o ssh, w/o some extras like unison, osync, or lsyncd as Sven suggested, plus optionally defining a

New to Gluster. Question about Postgres on Gluster.
Hi list,
First off, sorry if this message seems to ramble about. It's been a long day
that stretched through too many days.
I'm currently reviewing gluster as storage for our servers. While not
storing a massive data set (yet), it is starting to grow. The current setup
is one that I inherited and basically has nothing going for it at the
moment. No redundancy, back up policies are next

same error.
I also tried to upload it from windows7 64 bits or win10 64 bits
workstation, same result.
So i tried with another user account which is domain

Domain Admins default ownership is BUILTIN\Administrators
So, a little bit more investigation shows a problem with idmap ->
User - BUILTIN\Administrator uid = 30000
Group - BUILTIN\Administrators gid = 3000000
Group - SAMDOM\Domain Admins gid = 60000
POSIX file ownership is becoming 3000000:60000
It seems that the Administrators group group is set as the owner. What's more, 'Administrators' group name is not mapped when I list the

Replication sieve scripts.
Hi,
according to changelog 2.2.rc3, dsync should replicate sieve scripts. Do
I need turn on or switch some option(s), for this to work? Replication
of mailboxes works great, only sieve scripts not.

Samb4 built-in ldap backend in standalone server mode !
Is it possible to use Samba4 built-in ldap as passdb backend and idmap
backend instead of samdb_dsdb or tdb or others ?
I would like to have fully functioning Ldap and store users as their
passrows at here but and that Samba4 would act as Standalone server, I don'
t need DC.
If it is possible, how is ?

samb4 DC on aws
Hello,
Has anyone already installed samba4 as DC at aws? If so, how have dealt
with the question of the private ip and the public ip?
I will launch an instance and join samba DC to our existing active
directory to work as an external authenticator for the moodle we have in
the cloud.
