Days to solstice calculation
Hello, I've come across a problem in developing a set of custom functions to calculate the number of hours of daylight at a given latitude, and the number of days a date precedes or secedes the summer solstice. I discovered an inconsistency concerning leap years between my derived values and those from the US naval databases. It seems as far as I can figure that my inconsistency arises either

using stepAIC with negative binomial regression - error message help
Dear List, I am having problems running stepAIC with a negative binomial regression model.  I am working with data on manta ray abundance, using 20 predictor variables.  Predictors include variables for location (site), time (year, cos and sin of calendar day, length of day, percent lunar illumination), oceanography (sea surface temp mean and std, sea surface height mean and std), weather (cos

Simple question about extracting a subset of data
Hello all, I have a (hopefully) simple question. If I have a data table (named "x") such as this: daylengthleavesflowering.datefruits LD1.90055581.64353250.76668986 LD-0.9399410-1.2592968-0.60141837 LD1.0222946-0.9697459 -0.60141837 SD-0.2668132-0.9697459-0.47363322 SD -1.5892393-0.70540660.66469785 SD -0.5222961-0.7054066-0.10701187 How do create a new data table that contains,

fitting allometric equation using a for a power model
Hello all, I'm fitting an allometric equation that looks like a really clean fit in the log-log space, but when I back transform the fit of the curve appears to need an adjustment - the fitted curve appears to predict values a good deal higher than those from the data. I included a bias correction per Newman, M. (1993). Regression analysis of log‐transformed data: Statistical bias and its

User defined split function in rpart
Dear R community, I am trying to write my own user defined split function for rpart. I read the example in the tests directory and I understand the general idea of the how to implement user defined splitting functions. However, I am having troubles with addressing the data frame used in calling rpart in my split functions. For example, in the evaluation function that is called once per node,

tempsum
hi, i'd like to calculate a temperatursum, adding the value of each element. let's say the data looks like this: x<-c(1,2,3,4,5) what i want to do, is ploting not the sum in the end but all the subresults, too, so my vector holds: x[i] [1] 1,3,6,10,15 here is what i tried, which seems to be right to me, bu doesn't work out: x<-c(1,2,3,4,5) i<-1 j<-1

Function polr and discrete ordinal scale
Dear all, To modelize the abundance of fish (4 classes) with a set of environmental variables, I used the polr and predict.polr functions. I would like to know how to bring the cumulated probabilities back to a discrete ordinal scale. For the moment I used the predict.polr function with the argument "class". Is there an other way? polrf <- polrf <- polr_mod(formula =

using stepAIC with negative binomial regression - error message
Ben, I tried playing with the "na.action" but that didn't seem to help.  I didn't know of the na.omit function.  It made it much easier to get rid of all the missing values in the file, and now the regression model is running. I hadn't put interactions in the model yet since it wasn't even running.  Cosday, sinday, and daylength are strongly collinear.  The full model

Need Help with my Code for complex GARCH (GJR)
Hello, i want to estimate a complex GARCH-model (see below). http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/file/n4112396/GJR_Garch.png W stands for the Day of the Week Dummies. r stands for returns of stock market indices. I stands for the GJR-term. I need some help with three problems: 1.) implementation of the GJR-term in the variance equation 2.) compute robust covariance matrix

Problems with stepAIC
Dear help community, I'm a R-beginner and use it for my master thesis. I've got a mixed model and want to analyse it with lme. There are a lot Cofactors that coult be relevant. To extract the important ones I want to do the stepAIC, but always get an error warning. Structure of my data: data.frame': 72 obs. of 54 variables: $ Block : Factor w/ 3 levels

reading header in txt file and making histogram
Dear all I am a BEGINNER and have R on my Mac. I saved my excel file as .txt file, I have just one column with first row as the column name. My file when read by R looks like this. After reading the table I try to make a histogram by hist(dbh), it says object dbh not found. What am I doing wrong? thanks dbh 1 11.53 2 16.05 3 7.36 4 16.05 5 8.66 6 12.74 7 22.93 8 7.55 9

How to generate mean anova value row in anova table, instead of individual value for each predictor
Hi All , Can anybody tell me if there's any way to get the summarized anova values. Now i will explain what i mean , when i say "*summarized*". Below you can see the anova table of recmeanC1 with rest* all* i.e from recmeanC2 to i15(predictors),as shown in table. help for segmented package
Hi, I am trying to find m breakpoints of a linear regression model. I used the segmented package. It works fine for small number of predicators and breakpoints.(3 r.v. 3 points). However, my model has 14 variables it even would not work even for just one breakpoints!. The error message is always estimated breakpoints are out of range. Since my problem is time related problem. So I

How to fasten btrfs?
Hi, I am using 2.6.36.3 kernel with btrfs, 512MB memory and a very slow disk, no special options for mounting btrfs except noatime. Now I found it very slow.
