Samba4 server not visible browsing network listed machines
Hi, I have setted a AD-DC controller with Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS and Samba 4. When I browse my network using a Windows client (XP, 7 , 8 and10) I can't see my new server in the listed machines. I can see all Windows and Linux samba3 machines: only if I call the Samba4 server by ip address I can see all my shared folders on it. Is there a way to make it visible by Windows clients? Thanks

Connection issues between Win98 & Samba 2.2.2

Initial Samba Setup
I'm in the process of setting up Samba 3 on a Fedora core machine with a second machine being an XP machine. I can ping from either machine to the other. The command smbclient -L netbiosname on the linux machine gives me a "Connection to netbiosname failed On the XP machine I've enabled Wins over TCP IP but the command nbtstat -n on the XP machine only lists itself while the

Browing in Samba4 AD domain
Hello guys, Rowland :) I recently had the opportunity to configure a Samba 3.x server which acts as a WIN server. For testing purposes only, I've configured a group of 4 Windows machines to use my Samba 3.x host as WINS server but unfortunately those 4 hosts were not able to see each other in the windows browsing list. I might guess WINS is only providing NetBIOS name resolution but no

I actually have nmbd running on my Samba 3.x domain member server. Does nmbd need an special setup for maintaining the network browsing list for windows machines? Thanks for replying. I wasn't sure about what the link tried to tell me but you just have confirmed it :) So, if I understood correctly, do I have to setup a WINS server in another member machine (let's say another Samba host) and point all my windows computers to such Samba as WINS server? Samba4 DC is not visible in network neighborhood
Greetings, All! Is there at last a solution? I've only found questions, in the list, and on the network. The issue is that DC built on Samba4 does not report to network browsers neither it is participating in election to become browser itself. Consequently, it is not visible in the neighborhood neither on Windows, nor on Linux. I've managed to force a second Linux host (member server)

Browing in Samba4 AD domain
If AD domains are based on DNS and WINS relies on NetBIOS, what protocol(s) are used by computers to create and see (browse) all the machines of the domain? While it's clear to me that a hostname will resolve to an IP address through DNS queries, I'm not sure how is the browsing list created and maintained. In old NT style domain, any computer of the domain could be selected to act as a

Access Windows network shares from an external Windows PC using an ubuntu server as 'gateway'
Hi everybody. I live with 10 good friends in a student house. We have a network containing lots of stuff like movies, presentations, documents etc. Each one of us use Windows as the primary OS (I am the only one using linux too) and so our network exists out of Windows network shares. We use these network shares very much. We would like to be able to access these files remotely too (when being

Testing samba4 connection on Windows
Hi, I installed samba4 (zentyal 3.4) and I followed the Samba4 AD DC Howto from the wiki to test the linux-side. There all seems OK. Unfortunately, when I try to register a Win7 PC, the domain is not found. So what can I do to test things on the Windows-side ? I did : C:\net view /domain:ace_domain returns : \\ZENTYAL1 which is my DC After manually "mounting" the test1-share : C:\net

I've found an old thread in which you were participating: https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2015-February/189471.html It's more clear to me now but not at all. Since there seems to be different code for nbt and nmbd which handle WINS replication and browsing, which feature is what I need to setup in my MS network for properly browse all the machines in the domain? I would ask again,

new samba install
we have been trying to move our samba box to a faster server, with better NICs, faster processor and more memory. both the old and new server are using samba 3.0.14A both on debian based distributions (old was sarge, new is breezy) here are the steps we followed: install samba from the apt archives. confermed that they were the same version. copied smb.conf from old server to new server. changed

As far as Samba is concerned it uses both, DNS & NetBIOS, but instead of using WINS, it uses DNS to find the machines and then 'nmbd' produces the browsing list (this is

problem with cached netbios name of wins server
fc2, samba 3.0.9 The samba server is PDC. Temporarily, the server was dhcp, which gave it the IP 192.168.1.64 we then set it to static 192.168.1.150, which is what we want. however, the different windows clients, on and off, on ping and such, resolve INTRANET, the netbios name of the pdc, to 192.168.1.64 still, despite me removing wins.dat. I even tried the following suggestion, to no avail
