virtio for 9.1-R
Hi guys,
I can't see virtio in releng/9.1, is there any particular reason why it
isn't going to be included given that it works reasonable well (and is
optional anyway, so not likely to be detrimental)?
Thanks,

Qlogic Fibrechannel and detecting new LUNs on the fly
Hi there,
I've installed a Qlogic HBA in a 4.8-STABLE machine and I'm able to present
LUNs to this machine from an HDS array and use them. That all works
perfectly. However, the only time I pick up new LUNs is on a reboot.
Seems like I should be able to rescan the fabric and pick up new LUNs, but
there doesn't seem to be a way to do this. I tried camcontrol rescan, but

[PATCH stable-1.24] Fix fstab block device resolution for FreeBSD
The device name prefix for IDE hard drives used to be `ad' but now
is `ada' (http://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/disks-naming.html).
For virtio hard drives it is `vtbd'.
Under an MBR partition table a slice will be used, so the name of
the first partitions will be either `ada0s1a' or `vtbd0s1a'. Under a
GPT partition table, where no slice is needed, the name of the first

out of HDD space - zfs degraded
Overnight I was running a zfs send | zfs receive (both within the same
system / zpool). The system ran out of space, a drive went off line,
and the system is degraded.
This is a raidz2 array running on FreeBSD 8.1-STABLE #0: Sat Sep 18

The following logs are also available at

Re: [PATCH stable-1.24] Fix fstab block device resolution for FreeBSD
Hello Richard,
I think my patch is sufficient. I don't thing you need this patch at
all. The regular expression /dev/(ada{0,1}|vtbd)
will match both: /dev/ada and /dev/ad. This is why I use "{0,1}"
(=zero or one occurrence of the character a)

FreeBSD 7-STABLE, isp(4), QLE2462: panic & deadlocks
Hello everybody,
we recently got three Dell PowerEdge servers equipped with Qlogic
QLE2462 cards (dual FC 4Gbps ports) and an EMC CLARiiON CX3-40 SAN.
The servers with the FC cards were successfully and extensively
tested with an older SUN StorEdge T3 SAN.
However, when we connect them to the CX3-40, create and mount a new
partition and then do something as simple as "tar -C /san -xf

Upgrade a degraded pool
I know that this is not necessarily the right forum, but the FreeBSD forum haven''t been able to help me...
I recently updated my FreeBSD 8.0 RC3 to 8.1 and after the update I can''t import my zpool. My computer says that no such pool exists, even though it can be seen with the zpool status command. I assume that it''s due to different zfs versions. That should be solved

Problem with 16-in-1 card reader
My new PC has an internal 16-in-1 card reader connected via USB 2.0. The
device is the Techsolo TCR-1640

I boot from a compact flash inserted in it and I can mount and unmount
the same CF once the system has booted and has mounted the root
partition from my graid3 array.
The problem arise when I replace the inserted CF with another

Iomega Zip 100 Problems with "New" ATA
I believe that I'm having some problems with a Zip 100 drive and the
"new" (not really so new anymore) ATA driver. I added a Zip and a new
CD-R device to a system over the weekend. The BIOS identifies all of
the new devices just fine, but when I boot FreeBSD (the only OS on the
system), I get to the ATA probes and things lockup (these are from
notes, not exact),

LSI Logic raid status
Hi,
I have a LSI Logic sata/sas raid running, is there a way to see the
state of
the volume, like optimal, degraded or resyncing?
I've tried several commands with camcontrol but I cant figure it out.

stable/9: Force ada1 to UDMA-33
Hello,
I've got a (P)ATA disk in a special frame. The disk itself
supports UDMA-100 (and has an 80-ribbon cable), but the
frame isn't compatible with that. By default, FreeBSD
negotiates UDMA-100, and the console starts to fill with
ICRC errors.
In the past, I used a patch to ata-all.c that enabled the
following entry in loader.conf to force the disk to UDMA-33,
so it worked fine:

multiple disk failure
Hi,
I am using FreeBSD 8.2 and went to add 4 new disks today to expand my
offsite storage. All was working fine for about 20min and then the new
drive cage started to fail. Silly me for assuming new hardware would be
fine :(
The new drive cage started to fail, it hung the server and the box
rebooted. After it rebooted, the entire pool is gone and in the state
below. I had only written a few
