[Patch suggestion] Adding 3rd arg to tempfile() to set extension
The other day I was working on an example which used tempfile() to create file for use by the graphics device. And while I love tempfile()---as it is portable and clever and the files get cleaned by R and all that---I noticed one missing feature I would like to see: beside a starting name pattern, and an optional directory, an 'file extension' argument would be nice to have. As e.g. in

Output mis-encoded on Windows w/ RGui 3.5.1 in strange case
Sorry, I should have been more clear -- if I write the contents of that script to a file called 'encoding.R' and source that, then I see the reported behavior. Here's something standalone that you should hopefully be able to copy + paste into RGui to reproduce: code <- ' x <- 1 print(list()) save(x, file = tempfile()) output <- encodeString("apple")

Rgui, Startup, HOME, R_USER, ...
Hi, Main objective: Let Rgui find my ~/.Rprofile and ~/.Renviron files, where ~ is equal to getwd("~"). I have few comments/questions: (A) On my WinXP Pro installation, the system environment variable 'HOME' is not availble to R, e.g. Sys.getenv("HOME") is empty. I believe this is default case (correct me if I'm wrong). However, if I set the "Start

Rgui never processes ~/.Renviron
ISSUE: It looks like Rgui.exe never processes ~/.Renviron - only ./.Renviron. REPRODUCIBLE EXAMPLE: On Windows, create the following ~/.Renviron and ~/.Rprofile files: C:\Users\alice> Rscript -e "cat('FOO=123\n', file='~/.Renviron')" C:\Users\alice> Rscript -e "cat('print(Sys.getenv(\'FOO\'))', file='~/.Rprofile')" and launch

corrupt PACKAGES.gz?
Is it just me, or did a corrupt PACKAGES.gz file get installed in the bin/windows/contrib/3.2 directory of CRAN mirrors recently? gzfile() complains about it and Cygwin's gzip cannot decompress it. I tried the following repos <- "https://cran.rstudio.com" v <- "3.2" pkgs.gz <- paste(sep="/", repos, "bin/windows/contrib", v,

Rgui.exe fix for "console not found" buffer overflow problem
I'm using R on Windows XP Professional SP2. I figured out the fix for my buffer overflow problem that did not allow me to use Rgui.exe for about two weeks. I would keep getting "console not found" and even when I uninstalled and re-installed got the same problem. Here's how the problem started. In Rgui.exe, I attempted to get more visible output in the buffer (I wanted

phpconfig
Hello, I recently downloaded phpconfig from http://asterisk.espia-net.net/horde/chora/cvs.php/phpconfig?login=2 but on installing it, my interface does not look like the one at http://rd.it.utah.edu/phpconfig/. The main differences are: 1)On opening a file for editing, on the left menu mine has ony two links i.e Header and the filename.conf as opposed to the deffrent sections on the demo site.

Help needed to compile R with shared library.
Hi, I cannot compile R with shared library. I am using Redhad Linux on Dell hardware. Here''s what I am doing: I set ?PICFLAGS in config.site file: CPICFLAGS=-fPIC FPICFLAGS=-fPIC and issue: ./configure --enable-R-shlib --prefix=$HOME/newR make configure finishes with no complaints, the last informative line being: Options enabled: shared R library, shared BLAS, R

R_USER - in which file should I include it?
Hello I am a newbie. I had my R upgraded from 2.7.1 to 2.7.2 and in doing so I decided to install all 2.7 versions under c:\program files\R\2.7 from now on (2.7.1 is located under .\2.7.1) Although I don't like the idea (I am running Vista), I have edited etc\Renviron.site to contain: R_USER=c:/Users/eduardo/Documents/R R_LIBS_USER=c:/Users/eduardo/Documents/R/win-library/2.7 As far as

Problem about Rconsole: R for Windows Version 1.5.0 Patched (2002-06-05 and 2002-06-12)
R (Windows version) users/developers: While I have checked R-help/-devel mailing lists and R-bug-tracking system, this problem has not been reported so far. I would like to know whether this problem is specific to my machine. Lately I downloaded the version 1.5.0 patched [for windows] from http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/bdr/RWin/Rpre/ [patched: 2002-06-05] and

Model object, when generated in a function, saves entire environment when saved
Reviving an old thread. I haven't noticed this be a problem for a while when saving RDS's which is great. However, I noticed the problem again when saving `qs` files (https://github.com/traversc/qs) which is an RDS replacement with a fast serialization / compression system. I'd like to get an idea of what change was made within R to address this issue for `saveRDS`. My thought is that

source(), parse(), and foreign UTF-8 characters
Hi I'm having trouble sourcing or parsing a UTF-8 file that contains characters that are not representable in the current locale ("foreign characters") on Windows. The source() function stops with an error, the parse() function reencodes all foreign characters using the <U+xxxx> notation. I have added a reproducible example below the message. This seems well within the
