User Group SID behavior has changed from 21b to 23c
I am using LDAP as my backend. I have 6 PDC's running Samba 3.0.21b, each domain has a different SID. I store all user, groups, and machine accounts in one LDAP database. So that when I create a user once, all domains can see the user. This keeps me from having to create a user account on each domain for cross domain file sharing. The behavior for Domains running Samba 3.0.21b is a follows.

Changing Windows Passwords
I have 6 domain controllers that were running samba-tng using openldap, Six months ago I converted one of the controllers to Samba3.0.20 and exported my ldap information to be compatible with Samba, every works fine. Specifically I could change passwords at the local windows machine. Two weeks ago I converted my other 5 controllers to Samba3.0.21b everything works except changing passwords at

Cross Compile Samba4
Hi, I try to port samba4beta8 to Optware which includes cross compiling it for various platforms. I already created makefiles for optware for samba versions 3.4 and 3.6. Creating a working makefile for samba4 I try to use the new build environment but it puzzles me. I don't get over part where the python version is being checked. From my findings it looks like the linker dislikes the

shadowLastChange not updated
Hello, We have an otherwise working Samba PDC+LDAP setup but for one minor detail. The shadowLastChange is not updated when the user sets his password from a Windows workstation (all the necessary Samba*-fields as well as userPassword is updated in LDAP). We've enabled 'ldap passwd sync = Yes' in smb.conf. slapd.conf contains the appropriate access rule for the said field. The

Samba 3.6 -> 4.2 upgrade on FreeBSD
Hello. I know this is half OS-specific: I already asked on freebsd-ports@, but got no answer so far... Since 3.6 has been EOLed I'd like to upgrade all my such Samba installations to 4.2. Right now I don't want to switch any of them to AD; I just want to keep running as I do now, but with a supported version. I've started from the simplest cases and so far I've been able to

LAN switches with PoE? PoE phones?
Hi all, I'm looking for recommendations on ethernet switches for a new install. Ideally would want switches with at least 24 ports, ideally with a GE uplink, and that support PoE (power over ethernet) on every port. I've seen lots of switches, and lots of "power hubs", but the combination, which makes a lot of sense, seems rare. What is out there? Do the switches need to be

windows 7 problems
We are having problems with some windows 7 machines hanging when they access folders with in a share. We sell new pc's and laptops and use the samba server too hold software such as antivirus etc. I have googled the problem and there seems a few registry and security policy tweaks for windows 7 but it is not practical for us too tweak new machines like that before they go out. Is there any

T1 to T1 on asterisk?
Hi all, To solve my need for dial in modems, I've hit upon an idea: buy a used T1 "analog" modem bank like a Lucent Portmaster that takes in a T1 and provides several 56K modems. This is overkill for a lightly used dial in service, but the prices of these boxes is so cheap (~$300) with ISPs going away from dial in service that it makes sense. This is how I imagine it would work:

Samba 3.6 to 4.x: User Profile Service Failed the Login
I posted this a while ago on the FreeBSD forums but received no response so I thought I'd ask here. If things are out of date, it's simply due to the length of time between my original post and now. A few updates I've noted since the saga began. I'm trying to do a long overdue upgrade from samba 3.6 to 4.x (I've tried all available 4.x releases from ports, 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4

Icecast2 / edcast Initial Setup Question
Hi, I have setup Icecast2 and edcast (standalone) on an XPSP3 machine. The basic setup works. I can speak into a microphone and hear my voice from another PC on a LAN. Now I want to "stream a file" such as an mp3 podcast I made or just a song (mp3, acc etc.) or play a CD and don't know what to even search for in the mail archives, forum or Google to get help. I can't

Problems building FreeBSD file server
I have Googled my brains out without success, and I'm hoping that someone here can give me some tips. I'm trying to build a new file server, and I've concluded that ZFS is the technology that I want to use. After doing some research I settled on FreeBSD 10 as the platform to provide it. I have an existing AD domain (two Samba 4.1.4 DCs running on Debian) and the file server will be

unix to unix via samba?
Hi, I've setup samba for the first time and can see Win98 and WinNT 4.0 shares from my FreeBSD machines. Conversely, I can see "Unix Shares" from both Win98 and WinNT 4.0 I followed the instructions found in http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/DIAGNOSIS.html <http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/DIAGNOSIS.html> One thing I cannot do is have the FreeBSD machines use Samba to
