FW: Adding OpenBSD sudo to the FreeBSD base system?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA512
I really do not agree with adding it to the base system.
Just because you guys use sudo does not mean other people do.
In fact many people do not have a use for sudo at all.
Not every one gives out root accounts. You are only adding another utility
In that can possibly be used to escalate privileges.
Every time I secure a system I spend some time

amd64 installworld fails on syscons/scrnmaps
Hello,
I have an amd64 laptop on which I did a fresh csup to RELENG_7. I did
the canonical "buildworld", "buildkernel", "installkernel" and so far
so good.
However, when I attempt to "installworld", I get:

Error and output from uname -a are below.

installworld failure on -STABLE [/usr/src/gnu/usr.bin/perl/library]
Hi all,
I have just installed FreeBSD 4.8 -RELEASE and updated /usr/src to track
RELENG_4.
Buildworld builds fine, along with buildkernel.
However, installworld fails with:

Remote Installworld
I'm currently administering a machine about 1500mi from me with nobody
local to the machine to assist me. Anyways, my only access to this
machine is via SSH, no remote serial console or anything.
When I try to do a "make installworld" I end up with

permitted
very shortly thereafter. I cannot boot

suidperl not suid after installworld?
The last two times that i have cvsup-ed/built/installed world (first from
4.7-Rel to 4.8-Rc, then to 4.8-Rel),
i have noticed that after the update is complete the newly installed
suidperl binary has not the suid bit set and
does not work until i manualy set it., and i just wonder if this is
something normal, or i am doing something wrong?

SMP goes away after installworld (4.8-STABLE)
Hello,
I installed 4.8-RELEASE a few weeks ago, and since I let
the effort sit stagnant for a while I decided to do the
cvsup/buildworld/buildkernel/installkernel/installworld/mergemaster/MAKEDEV
steps to get current.
Went fine, rebooted, then noticed that just one CPU was recognized:

make installworld Error code 64
Hi,
I am a long time OpenBSD user trying FreeBSD. I am attempting to upgrade my
system from FreeBSD RELEASE 4.7 to "STABLE"
This is my first post to this list so please be gentle : )
I followed
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/makeworld.html
But when I get to "21.4.9 Install the New System Binaries" This happens:

System totally borked after installworld and mergemaster at 16:20:03 MSK
Well, 4 days after previous upgrade i cvs'ed RELENG_4 from
local cvs tree (updated hourly), made buildworld buildkernel
installkernel, rebooted into single user, made installworld
and mergemaster.
Mergemaster updated newsyslog.conf, syslogd.conf, ok, rebooted...
Wow...
All scripts from /usr/local/etc/rc.d refused to load.
And the system is in "Amnesiac" mode

Mounting filesystems with "noexec"
Hello,
I've been playing a bit with the "noexec" flag for filesystems. It
can represent a substantial obstacle against the exploitation of
security holes.
However, I think it's not perfect yet.
First thing, an attempt to execute a program from a noexec-mounted
filesystem should be logged. It is either a very significant security
event, or it can drive nuts an

make installworld fails : touch not found ?
Hi, hackers :
Yesterday night and this morning, I cvsup my system to latest STABLE branch
source (RELENG_4). All make buildworld, buildkernel, and installkernel
procedure was completed with no error. But when I boot into single user mode
and try to make installworld, I always got " touch: not found " error.
Does anyone encounter this situation ? I have no idea about that. :-(

Is the server portion of freebsd-update open source?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I'm wondering if/where I can get the server side component for
freebsd-update. Presumably such a component would build and sign the
binary patches and prepare them to be served via HTTP to the
freebsd-update client.
I need a system for distributing binary updates to a collection of
customized FreeBSD machines, jails, and embedded systems.

Tunnel-only SSH keys
Hello.
I once read somewhere that it's possible to limit SSH pubkeys to
'tunnel-only'. I can't seem to find any information about this
in any of the usual places.
I'm going to be deploying a few servers in a couple of days and
I'd like them to log to a central server over an SSH tunnel (using
syslog-ng) however I'd like to prevent actual logins (hence
