OT Proftpd stopped authenication for users
For some reason proftpd stopped authentication for users. Anonymous access still works but when someone tries to access the server via their login it no longer authenticates them. I recently ran yum where proftpd was updated (that said, I'm not sure that caused the problem). I uninstalled the new version and and installed a prior version with no change. Below is a look at my config, a

Ruby hangman (was Re: List etiquette question)
"Beast" is more appropriate than you know. It''s definately Frankenstein code. (read: it ain''t pretty, but it works - some of the time). Anyway, it entertains my wife; not sure if hardcore programmers will get anything out of it or not. You might find it interesting (or pointless) that in a complete bastardization of rails'' main reason for being it

Hi Everybody, I need to install the R-package 'foreign'. However, when I try the standard install.packages('foreign') I get the following error message: " package 'foreign' is not available in: install.packages("foreign") " The funny thing is, that I am using an Ubuntu Gutsy system and the foreign package should actually be installed by default...

icecast and RTMP
Dear Icecast developers, we (freiheit.com and radio.de) are using Icecast as a streaming server. Our targeted client is based on Adobe flash. We investigate the options to implement RTMP streaming (an Adobe streaming format: http://osflash.org/documentation/amf) as an alternative streaming format for the Icecast server to improve the quality of audio streaming in flash clients. Disk Size Issue
I am sure this is not a problem, but more of a "can we do this" question. We are using Samba Version 2.0.6 and my problem is this: We have one Samba server for a site, we NFS mount filesystems from various other machines to the Samba server, we then create a directory on the Samba server and then create links under that directory to each of the mounted filesystems we want to share.

NSD compressing RP content
Hello, while investigating a report from Jan-Piet Mens (resulting in http://wiki.powerdns.com/trac/changeset/3109), we discovered that NSD (both 3.2.15 and 4.0.0b4) compresses labels in RP content. As far as I can see, this is not allowed by RFC3597 section 4 paragraph 1/2. PowerDNS Recursor, like Unbound and BIND, now deals with this as 3597 section 4 paragraph 4 says we SHOULD. Nevertheless,

bind (named) compromised?
I'm having problems where my upstream bandwidth is being saturated. I've narrowed it down to a DNS issue of some type. If I stop the named service then my bandwidth drops to "normal" according to my untangle firewall. I'm running bind-9.3.6-20.P1.el5_8.6. I'm seeing the following in /var/log/messages: 2014-02-08T23:03:09.558315-05:00 mailserver named[3497]: network
