ATTN Development TEAM - "invalid mid from server"
Hi, We are having a problem with smbclient running tar back to a FreeBSD system for Amanda. smbclient seems to be choking on large files. Of the many singularly uninformative error messages, the primary error* is "invalid mid from server" Searching all FAQ's and news groups shows this has been a problem for several users since 8/2000 with no published response from anyone except a

Dovecot vs MBox
I'm still in the "what's wrong" stage of figuring out what's going on. But I've got a mail user who isn't getting new messages. Postfix accepts it and drops it in the users mbox. [This is verified. If I tail the Mbox, I can see the new messages.] "Mail" will see the messages too. But dovecot doesn't seem to know they exist. I don't think the MBox

smb.conf for Windows clients
So, I'm trying to paw through the long set of smb.conf options - and it's rather daunting. I'm wondering what smb.conf options are most important/appropriate/common for mostly Windows XP/7/(possibly v8) clients. Namespace problem? duplicated folders...
I'm sure this is related to name-spaces, but for some reason [brain damage perhaps? :) ] I can't seem to figure out how to fix it. In TBird, for example, I have a folder tree that looks like this Inbox -| Folder-A Folder-B Folder-C Folder-A Folder-B Folder-C And Folder-A, Folder-B, Folder-C are the same folders, just shown twice. [In two different hierarchies.] I'm using

doveadm sync backup from old to new server
Yeah, I tried that already - and it seems to crash more badly... dsync-remote(use at abc.net)<mTEPAAUCvl4yFgAAb6OASA>: Panic: epoll_ctl(add, 0) failed: Operation not permitted (fd doesn't support epoll - instead of '<file', try 'cat file|') dsync-remote(user at abc.net)<mTEPAAUCvl4yFgAAb6OASA>: Error: Raw backtrace:

Ubuntu compile/install location
Ok, while I'm usually more comfortable installing an RPM or DEB package and having the package maintainer handle all the details for me - I don't get a choice here. The latest Ubuntu 12.04 package is the Alpha18 release. So, I've compiled my own copy of Samba4.01 - and surprise, surprise, it went well. So the crux of the question is: Where should I install it to. [What directory.]

Namespace problem? duplicated folders...
Interesting. While I don't use mbox (dbox or maildir) I wouldn't think that would matter. Your namespace layout looks nearly the same as my own. But to verify what's going on - post the output of "doveconf namespace". Possibly just reviewing that output may tell you enough - otherwise share it (fully) here. -- Daniel On 1/23/2020 12:46 PM, Gregory Sloop wrote: >

doveadm sync backup from old to new server
I'm not clear myself on the difference myself between dsync doveadm sync doveadm dsync-server ... perhaps someone here can explain? However what worked for me was using doveadm dsync-server on the 'receive' end. Maybe that puts it in 'listen' mode? So maybe try doveadm backup -u user at abc.net \ ssh root at po.abc.net \ docker exec b3093cxxxxxx doveadm dsync-server -u

DC disaster recovery
Yeah, I could setup an extra XCP box - but at smaller setups, it really seems like overkill. So, it sounds like restores of the VM work "fine." How often do machine accounts reset their passwords? [This is the one that is most likely to be problematic. Rejoining the domain means a new profile. And that's a big PITA on the client side.] User password changes can simply be handled by

doveadm sync backup from old to new server
So that was really helpful for me to understand that a lot more clearly. Thanks! [Many, many thanks @Plutocrat!!] But I'm still getting a similar failure. Let me give the command I'm using. doveadm backup -D -u user at abc.net \ ssh root at po.abc.net \ docker exec b3093cxxxxxx doveadm sync -D -u user at abc.net The "local" server is where the data/mail currently is. RSAT Hang
Hi Gregory, On the questions. > Is there a good reason to avoid Samba internal DNS? No, imo not, but i only use bind9_dlz because i need bind in my lan for other setups also. I just used my RSAT on my win7 64b, but at my point it works fine. I do have questions to get a better impression of the setup. Whats the os your using with RSAT and did u use DOM\Administrator or an other account?

SMB share access for machines which are not joined to the domain?
Hmmm... Use the netbios name, instead of a FQDN, perhaps? i.e.: \\cns-bio-krak1\emtifs [I'm assuming the NB name. If I'm wrong, correct it.] I know I've done this with Windows DC shares, and I'm 99% certain I've done it with FreeNAS acting as a domain member. [Samba domain member.] I haven't done it with 18.04 / 4.7.6 - but can't see why it should be different.

[ATTN] To all users of unicode_hacks
TO everyone who is making use of unicode_hacks! I have made irreversible changes to the plugin so that the routings are no longer overloaded. To call the character-bound routines, you need to use the "chars" or "u" accessors, as outlined in the docs http://julik.nl/code/unicode-hacks/index.html and in this blog post by Thijs:

Attn Ivo. Re patches 15347 and 15376
Ivo, Your patch number 16347 uses _fseeki64 when _WIN32 is defined. Unfortunately, MinGW (or at least the Linux -> Win32 cross compiler I'm using) defines _WIN32 but isn't aware of _fseeki64. I have therefore modified your solution a little and commited it as rev 15376. The code now looks like this: #ifdef __MINGW32__ return fseeko64(f,off,whence); #elif defined
