Aligning barplot
All, Consider: BagA <- c(-1000,10,10,10,10,10,10, 10,20,20,20,20,20,20,30, 30,40,40,50,60) BagB <- c(10,20,30,30,40,40,50,50, 50,50,50,50,60,60,60,60, 60,60,60,1000) layout(c(2,1)) barplot(table(BagB)) barplot(table(BagA)) At this point, I'd like to arrange the plots so that the 10-bars are aligned, the 20-bars are aligned, etc. So, I started

Two selections from Bag A
All, I am looking at an example in Aliaga's Interactive Statistics. Bag A has the following vouchers. BagA <- c(-1000,10,10,10,10,10,10, 10,20,20,20,20,20,20,30, 30,40,40,50,60) Bag B has the following vouchers. BagB <- c(10,20,30,30,40,40,50,50, 50,50,50,50,60,60,60,60, 60,60,60,1000) Two values are selected (from BagA or BagB) without

Trying to understand cut
I am trying to understand cut so I can divide a list of numbers into 10 group: 0-9.0 10-10.9 20-20.9 30-30.9, 40-40.9, 50-50.9 60-60.9 70-70.9 80-80.9 90-90.9 As I try to do this, I have been playing with the cut function. Surprising the following for applications of cut give me the exact same groups. This surprises me given that I have varied parameters include.lowest and right. Can someone

Trying to understand cut
Have you read FAQ 7.31 recently, John? Your whole premise is flawed. You should be thinking of ranges [0,10), [10,20), and so on because numbers ending in 0.9 are never going to be exact. -- Sent from my phone. Please excuse my brevity. Help: formatting the result of 'cut' function
Dear list, I would like to format the result of the 'cut' function to perform a subsequent frequency distribution table (fdt) suitable for publications. Below an reproducible example: set.seed(1) x <- c(rnorm(1e3, mean=10, sd=1), 50, 100) start <- 0 end <- 110 h <-10 c1 <- cut(x, br=seq(start, end, h), right=TRUE) levels(c1) # I get: # [1] "(0,10]"

Trying to understand cut
Jeff, Perhaps I was sloppy with my notation: I want groups >=0 <10 >=10 <20 >=20<30 ...... >=90 <100 In any event, my question remains, why did the four different versions of cut give me the same results? I hope someone can explain to me the function of include.lowest and right in the call to cut. As demonstrated in my example below, the parameters do not seem to alter

Frequency table
This must be FAQ, but I can't find it in archives or with a site search. I am trying to construct a frequency table. I guess this should be done with table. Or perhaps factor and split. Or prop.table. cut? findInterval? Argh! Please correct me if what I am looking for is not called a "frequency table". Perhaps it's called grouped data. > zz$x9 [1] 65 70 85 65 65 65 62 55

Giving full administrator privileges through sudo on production systems
Hello, Consider two following cases: 1. On production systems on television stations, a sysadmin give teens (remaja group, age 13 and older) full administrator privileges by adding this line to sudoers: %remaja ALL=(ALL:ALL) ALL Rationale: Almost all programs on the system can only be run by teens as root. 2. On production systems on tobacco factories, a sysadmin also give adults (age 18

runif limited precision
runif appears to give 31 bits of precision, but this isn't mentioned in the documentation page. The R numeric type supports 53 digits of precision, and other numeric functions (sin, etc.) give full-precision results. So I'd think that either runif should give full precision or its documentation should mention this limitation. #integers table(runif(10000,-2^30,2^30) %% 1) 0 0.5 4972

Replacing kernel-headers with custom compiled version (from kernel.org) - safe?
Hello CentOS users, Currently I have compiled kernel version 4.19.37, which the source is from kernel.org. I compiled the kernel by following steps: - get the kernel tarball and unpack it - install prerequisties as described in https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel (in addition bc and openssl-devel) - copy the kernel configuration: $ cp /boot/config-3.10.0-957.21.3.el7.x86_64

alternative option in skewness and kurtosis tests?
I have a question about the D'Agostino skewness test and the Anscombe-Glynn kurtosis test. agostino.test(x, alternative = c("two.sided", "less", "greater")) anscombe.test(x, alternative = c("two.sided", "less", "greater")) The option "alternative" in those two functions seems to be the null hypothesis. In the output, the

How to generate a xyplot with multiple panels using an empty data frame ?
Hi: I am coding some interactive interface using an xyplot from lattice. When a user clicks on a panel of the xyplot, a simulation is executed and the resulting data is plotted on the corresponding panel. The problem is that I start with an empty data frame and only fill it as the user request data from simulations. And, I have found it impossible to create a conditional plot that contains panels

trellis.focus with postscript device

SimpleR and UsingR

There it says: "The simpleR package is now inside the UsingR package available from CRAN. In the Windows GUI, this may be

In order to use some of the functions and datasets I have to install the simpleR package which is is now inside the UsingR package. I did so using >install.packages("UsingR"). However, the functions such as "simple.freqpoly.R" do not work. I also tried to
