samba version to use on CentOS?
I see via yum that there is "samba" and there is "samba3x" available for CentOS (my boxes are hooked to the main CentOS repo, Fedora EPEL, and RPMFORGE).
'samba' is 3.0.33
'samba3x' is 3.3.8
Is there any down-side to upgrading to 'samba3x' and running 3.3.8 instead of 3.0.33? I'm assuming that, in general, I should be running the latest

NTLMv2 compatibility in Samba 3.0.33 standard packages
Good afternoon/morning/evening everyone,
I've been running into
the problem of clients using Windows 7 with CentOS 5.X and file/printer
sharing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the stand samba-3.0.33-x.x.x
packages DO NOT provide compatibility with Windows Vista/7. I've had to
manually compile samba from source or use the samba3x packages to fix
the problem. Just wondering if we're

Centos, Samba , WIN7
Hi Folks,
I've fresh installed CentOS 5.5 and realized, that Samba is in version
3.0.33-3.
Is it possible to conect WIN7 in a Samba-Dom?ne with this version?
And I've read abaut RHEL 5.6 with samba 3.5.4.
Can I expect, that this version is included in CentOS 5.6?
And can I get this version with yum-update?
Thx

samba 3 performance with windows 7 workstations
My customer has a Centos Linux 5.10 server running Samba 3. (Samba version
3.0.33-3.40.el5_10)
The machine is about three years old. I suggested that they should consider
replacing it with a Centos 6 machine and Samba 4, but they decided as it
was doing its job without any issues to keep it as is. I also suggested
updating to samba3x but they decided not to do this.
I recently installed a centos

Samba 3.0.33 works, 3.5.4 doesn't
I'm trying to get AD authentication working on a RHEL 5.4 base system
I can wbinfo -[ug] and getent {passwd|group} with 3.0.33 Everything
appears to work just fine, except I could not actually authenticate...
I'd always get failed password. A lot of Googling turned up a bug that
indicated that it was impossible to get 3.0.33 to authenticate against a
W2K8 AD, so I installed 3.5.4 Same

real SATA RAID
Hi
Last week I had a lengthy thread in which someone indicated the my SIL
card is a FRAID (don't know if F stands for the F word or Fake, though it
doesn't really matter). I want to replace the controller with a controller
that Linux will see the RAID1 group as a single HD and not multiple HDs as
it happens with the SIL controller. Recommendations anyone?

Integrating samba with existing AD
Hi everyone,
I am currently trying to set-up a samba server in my network in order to
replace the existing windows samba server. It's been now two weeks that I am
struggling with a vicious problem, and I cannot see any issue right now.
Before I loose all my hairs, I am sharing with you this problem : hopefully,
someone will have a tip for me.

Joining an AD domain when hostname != netbios name
I'm trying to join a RHEL5 host to an AD domain, and can do this
successfully when I set those hostname to the same value as the samba
"netbios name" parameter. However, when I try with a hostname !=
netbios name, it fails. Is it possible to join a machine when the
hostname isn't the same as the netbios name?
The reason for wanting this is because I have a whole load of servers

Winbind Issues with Server 2003/2008
Good morning all,
I really hate emailing lists, but I've come to a wall that I just cant
work out how to get past at the moment, so am hoping for some community
assistance if possible.
Some background:
We are running Windows Server 2003 on all of our domain controllers, and
are in the middle of migrating to server 2008 R2. We have unix exentions
enabled (rfc2307 I believe), and manage

Postfix problem
Hi
I have a CentOS 4.2 server with postfix. The problem I'm having is
that postfix insists on using $myhostname in the from field even if I
instruct it to use $mydomain in /etc/postfix/main.cf or even if I hard
code the domain name into $myorigin. What am I missing?
BTW: postconf shows output shows that $myorigin is configured to use
$mydomain, or the domain name itself ...

peth device
Hi
I reached the conclusion that my networking problem stems from the
fact that I have no peth0 device. I''m trying to locate what creates the
device, but until now no success. So I have a simple question: What
creates the peth0 device in dom0?
TIA

problem with domain and samba3x
Hi all
About 18 months ago I connected 14 new Windows 7 PCs to a Centos5.1 server
with samba3x as domain members. There are no other servers on site.
Today, I had to visit to connect up a PC in a new location. As I would
normally do I checked for Centos updates and found 35 outstanding including
samba3x 3.6.23-12.el5_11 and samba3x-client, samba3x-common, samba3x-doc,

I haven't been successful in getting this to work. The issue looks to
be that Asterisk is wanting peer authentication for the invite request
as it sends back 401 Unauthorized. I am using FreePBX 2.7 and have
