R Newbie Question
Hello list, I just started R today and tried something quite simple. I wanted to create a colored plot and eventually after hours of fiddling around got it working. However, my solution seems very suboptimal and I'd really appreciate your hints on how to improve. I believe that R already offers many functions I coded (e.g. distance between two vectors, vector length, vector normalization and

Backup Member Server
Hai, but dont forget that if you use samba also as print server you need to backup the /var/lib/samba/drivers en printing also. ( and in my case a different folder. ) In /var/cache/samba is the file printer_list.tdb I dont think that recreated, and if it is, you probely will loose the printer settings. I'll have to look that up. Maybe its an option to let the backup scrip detect if it

Backup Member Server
Wanted to add that I am using STAR for incremental backups of ZFS snapshots on a member server while preserving ACLs with the -xattr parameter. It is pretty fast (uncompressed, of course). http://linuxcommand.org/man_pages/star1.html Ole Am 09.12.2015 um 13:27 schrieb L.P.H. van Belle: > Hai, > > but dont forget that if you use samba also as print server > you need to backup the

simulating future observations from heteroscedastic fits
Hello, All: I want to simulate future observations from fits to heteroscedastic data. A simple example is as follows: (DF3_2 <- data.frame(y=c(1:3, 10*(1:3)), gp=factor(rep(1:2, e=3)))) # I want to fit 4 models # and simulate future observations from all 4: fit11 <- lm(y~1, DF3_2) fit21 <- lm(y~gp, DF3_2) library(nlme) (fit12 <- lme(y~1, data=DF3_2,

glm error: cannot correct step size
R 2.8.1 windows XP I am getting an error message that I don't understand when I try to run GLM. The error only occurs when I have all independent variables in the model. When I drop one independent variable, the model runs fine. Can anyone help me understand what the error means and how I can correct it? Thank you, John > fit11<-glm(AAMTCARE~BMI+BMIsq+SEX+jPHI+jMEDICAID+factor(AgeCat)+

beginner programming question
Hi all, The last e-mails about beginners gave me the courage to post a question; from a beginner's perspective, there are a lot of questions that I'm tempted to ask. But I'm trying to find the answers either in the documentation, either in the about 15 free books I have, either in the help archives (I often found many similar questions posted in the past). Being an (still actual)

Fitting problem for Cox model with Strata as interaction term
Dear All, I got a warning message "X matrix deemed to be singular" in Cox model with a time dependent coefficient. In my analysis, the variable "SEX" is a categorical variable which violate the PH assumption in Cox. I first used the survSplit() function to break the data set into different time intervals, and then fit the model. The procedures can be described as follows:

Using MIcombine for coxph fits
R-helpers: I am using R 2.5 on Windows XP, packages all up to date. I have run into an issue with the MIcombine function of the mitools package that I hoped some of you might be able to help with. I will work through a reproducible example to demonstrate the issue. First, make a dataset from the pbc dataset in the survival package --------------- # Make a dataset library(survival) d <-

Help please! How to code a mixed-model with 2 within-subject factors using lme or lmer?
Hello, I'm using aov() to analyse changes in brain volume between males and females. For every subject (there are 331 in total) I have 8 volume measurements (4 different brain lobes and 2 different tissues (grey/white matter)).
