having issues with shares
We recently migrated our install from an ancient fedora 11 install of samba and openldap to a centos 6.3 setup with its openldap and samba. The domain has been totally recreated from scratch as the person that did the previous setup has not been employed here in many years. After fighting with shares for a while we mostly got them fixed and working. However the biggest issue now is when our GIS

Install ubunto domU
Dear *,
I''m more used to work with RedHat like OSes. Still, I did not denied the
request from a user who wants a domU based on ubunto. I usually use
virt-install to do the job, with a script similar to this one:
#!/bin/sh
BASE=SL-4.7-i386-pv \
virt-install --nographics \
--nonsparse \
--paravirt \
--noreboot \

Odd random roaming profile issues
We are currently using samba and openLDAP to enable our users to have
roaming profiles on our domain network. We have one primary domain
controller and 7 "home servers" at the various locations that serve the
profiles and such. The problem is that randomly various users are unable
to load their profile and windows just gives them a temporary profile.
This mostly happens on vista

Migrating mail from mbox to maildir using dovecot
Hello,
Currently our mail server is setup to use postfix and dovecot, which is fine except it is setup to use mbox format mail. That and procmail as we need to move to sieve but that is a different issue. I have searched until blue in the face and cannot find a 100% working solution that doesn't require alot of manual interaction to move the mail boxes from mbox to maildir.
I have

Moving Samba PDC to new machine
I am looking to move our current Samba primary domain controller to a new machine. The current machine is EOL, running Fedora 11 (old), and had way too many services on it to start with (mail, dns, samba, mysql replication, primary ldap, etc). I am looking to move to a Xen domu with either Fedora 13 or Centos 5.5. What my question is is this:
what should I look for when I migrate the samba

Multiple Samba accounts with the rights of a single Unix account?
Is it possible to have a standalone Samba server map different
username/password pairs to a single Unix account? More specifically, I'll be
using an external passdb (pdb-mysql or LDAP), and each username will only
see a home directory with the same name. But I don't want to have to create
a separate Unix account / UID for each username/password, the restriction by
directory is enough.

from Cyrus to Dovecot, seen status on cyrus.index files
Hello,
Using cyrus2dovecot (https://github.com/a-schild/cyrus2dovecot) I have
migrated some test mailboxes from Cyrus (2.4.17) to Dovecot (2.2.9).
The problem I'm having is that the seen status is in cyrus.index files,
which cyrus2dovecot doesn't understand.
Does anyone use cyrus2dovecot for migrations? If so, how do you deal with
seen status when it is stored in the .index files?

I don't know how to put this on words, so maybe an example is better:

unexpected delivery location
Hi,
We're running dovecot 2.2.13, virtual users, with postfix. We have an
olddomain and a new domainname. To 'translate' *@olddomain into
*@newdomain, I have configured:
> cat /etc/postfix/canonical
> @olddomain.com @newdomain.com
While this seems to work, lately we have noticed that dovecot
occasionally creates mailboxes for non-existent users, like:

Tuning the performance of Samba over LAN network to improve I/O performance
Hello friends,
I am trying to test NAS I/O performance over a network and trying to see the
numbers for write and read speed. I have successfully configured and ran a
lot of tests. However the numbers have not increased, I have reached a
bottleneck.
I tried playing around with the smb.conf file including all possible
variations like,
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=(tried values like

Sieve - not functioning for additional email aliases.
Hi,
On one of my servers (old one, version 1.2.5) user reported that vacation
message for basic address works fine, but not for the aliases.
I know that this is an old version, but we can't simply switch them to the
most current dovecot release without preparing and testing everything...
So I'm rather asking for help with debugging the case :)

Winbind problem

problem
I almost have this.
I have read the docs, I have read this, I have purchased both books from the
samba team, and I cannot find any help from any of these.
We are trying to migrate from OLDDOMAIN (an NT4 Domain) to NEWDOMAIN (our
Win2k3 Domain). I have a two way trust right now between the domains. I have

Demote old NT4 PDC to member of Samba domain?
Hi,
When installing Samba, I made it a PDC in a new domain. Now I would like
the old NT4 PDC in the old domain to become a plain host in my Samba
domain. Is this possible? I need to keep the old NT4 machine because
it's running the Symantec Corporate Edition NAV.
In other words, I have
NEWDOMAIN with Samba PDC and all clients
OLDDOMAIN with NT4 PDC alone, no client
Can my NT4 PDC become
