Homework help: t test hypothesis testing with summarized data?
Is this how a t hypothesis test is done when I don't have the actual data, but just the summarized statistics: > #Homework 9.2.6 [1] > n<-31 > xbar<-3.10 > s_x<-1.469 > m<-57 > ybar<-2.43 > s_y<-1.35 > s_pooled<- (((n-1)*s_x^2) + ((m-1)*s_y^2)) / (n + m - 2) > s_pooled [1] 1.939521 > t_obs <- (xbar - ybar) / (s_pooled * (sqrt(1/n + 1/m)))

Dear list, I am trying to plot a radial dendrogram using the ape package, which requires my data to be of class 'phylo'. Currently I have my dendrogram stored as an object of class 'dendrogram' which was produced from an outside bit of C code, but was made into an object of class 'igraph.eigenc' and converted to a dendrogram using 'as.dendrogram()' from the igraph

Named update for RH 4.2 exploitable?
Someone I was speaking with this evening claimed they have installed the latest named rpms yet they are still getting exploited daily and being hacked. Do the latest rpm''s for the named 4.9.x stuff fix all the root exploits or is this person just an idiot who probably has holes elsewhere in the system?

Speaking of sessions
Hi All, I am trying to figure out some models and controller for a time tracking system. More specifically I am trying to figure out the best way to track how long a user was logged in for a given day week or month. I was thinking from a database standpoint of having a created_ and and updated_at in a session table and then I would find out the hours and minutes that a user was logged in for

loop for a large database
Yes, I am a newbie. I have a data.frame (MyTable) of 1445846 rows and 15 columns with character data. And a character vector (MyVector) of 473491 elements. I want simply to get a data.frame with the count of how many times each element of MyVector appears in MyTable. I've tried a loop with : for (i in 1 : length (myvector)) sum (MyTable== i) but it crashes my computer. I've also

clustering with hclust
Hi everybody, I have a problem with a cluster analysis. I am trying to use hclust, method=ward. The Ward method works with SQUARED Euclidean distances. Hclust demands "a dissimilarity structure as produced by dist". Yet, dist does not seem to produce a table of squared euclidean distances, starting from cosines. In fact, computing manually the squared euclidean distances from cosines
