XP can browse samba by IP, but not by name - NMB issues?
I have an XP home (falcon) and an XP pro (tatooine) machine, both behind a rh9 box (hoth) acting as firewall. I've been trying to get samba set up on the linux box. I think I have it mostly working except that the XP boxes won't list hoth under "My Network Places - Microsoft Windows Network - MSHOME", and I cannot access hoth by name at all from the XP-pro box (by IP, I can

The linux machine is also where all the backups for all the other pc's are stored. My workgroup is MSHOME. When I start up my winxp pc I can see the linux machine in My Network Places > Entire Network > Microsoft Windows Network > MSHOME However, after a few

strange permission denied problem
I built an embedded box which uses mount.cifs to mount network shares. I've shipped several of these and all are working fine except for one, which gives me permission denied on certain files: root@Mnemosyne:~/mnt/bgrp1/c/Ballance Group Folders/Scully/Client Photos-Scully# cat "Office Pics 002.jpg" > /dev/null cat: Office Pics 002.jpg: Permission denied

bind or samba configuration preventing browsing network
I have a networking problem where I am not certain if the problem is samba or bind. I am still pretty much a nb at linux. The machine in question is running openSuSE 10.2 and is named rd1. I had samba working fine before I started to make it a WINS server and DNS host. I have a small LAN with no real administration functionality. The network is used for simple file sharing and dial-up

virtual server configuration issues
Greetings, I've used samba for many years now on various platforms and its worked very well. I'm now trying to use 'virtual servers' to combine several smb servers on one machine and have been following the clear and simple instructions here: http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/samba/chapter/book/ch04_07.html (I've also cross-referenced these instructions with various posts to

How do I do to rid of the banner "SAMBA 3.0.14a on debian on sarge (pdcsrv)" I can see that when I use the M$ server tools and I've tried to rewrite the string but when I click "ok" the string still the same, what I mean is that no matter what I write there it doesn't change. Hi List, I have a problem installing the vTPM extension for Xen. I selected the option vTPM Manager (=y) in the Config.mk before compiling the xen-tools, but there is always the same error in every xen version which I have tried: gcc -Werror -g3 -I. -D_GNU_SOURCE -DLOGGING_MODULES="(BITMASK(VTPM_LOG_TCS)|BITMASK(VTPM_LOG_VTSP)|BITMASK(VTPM_LOG_VTPM))"

Samba 3.0.22 PDC - "The parameter is incorrect"
Hi everyone; I have searched the internet up & down for an answer to this problem. I'm stumped. Here's what I've got: Samba 3.0.22 configured as a PDC using tdbsam as the passdb backend (switching to LDAP when I get everything working). testparm says everything is fine. I've added the root user and a normal user to the database (using smbpasswd). I even went so

How to allow only particular users to logon to a particular computer?
Guys, I have a pc (already joinned the samba domain 'DOMAIN') that I want to keep off other domain users but user DOMAIN\mark and DOMAIN\thomas whilst letting both of them to logon freely to other computers. rpc trust gives NT_STATUS_INVALID_HANDLE with 3.0.11
When I try to establish a trust from SAMBA 3.0.11 to Windows 2003 I get the error: NT_STATUS_INVALID_HANDLE. I have no problem the other way. I had no problem either, when I ran SAMBA 3.0.9, and the problem disappeared when I down-graded to 3.0.9. Here is what happens ('CALYPSO' is the Windows-server and 'KONTOR' is its domain-name): [root@linux /root]# net rpc trustdom

Can't access shares from Win98 machine
Hello all. I have recently set up Samba on my Rehdat 9 machine. I have on my home network 2 computers, one running Redhat 9 (with Samba as mentioned), and the other running Windows 98 2nd ed. My RH machine can read and access shared directories on the Win98 machine just fine. My Windows machine can see my Redhat machine on the smb, but cannot access the shares. In other words, when I go to

Dear Group, I'm using samba 3.x as a PDC, and I'm using linux system quota v2 for samba. Here is my problem: if a user copies a big file to the desktop (bigger than the quota set for that user), when he logs off, the profile wont syncronize with the server with the message "disk full". Is there a way to let the WinXp client to understand how much space is available also for

Hello friends, I am running Samba 3.0 on RHEL4 server. Around 200 roaming profiles are also configured and they login to XP machines. Things are working for us except in network rollout scenarios. We dont know how to roll out patches or some global changes to all the profiles. We have to visit each and every profile (loggin each of them) to do even the small changes. Today we have to map a

Mac can't connect to debian after upgrade to Samba 3.0.23
After upgrading my Debian box to Samba 3.0.23, I'm no longer able to connect to it from my Mac OS X 3.9 machine. I can still connect from the linux box TO the mac, but not the other way around. I need to be able to mount the linux volume on the mac. I've had to downgrade to samba 3.0.22 on linux to get it to work. My home network is a simple 2 machine setup with a wired connection. My
