Appreciate the help...
I received some interesting answers to my cron question. Most people said it was not possible. One person reviewed cron's source code and said the source would need to be modified. One person said I should mount the filesystem with noexec. I'll review and test the answers as best I can. To answer several people's curiosities of why I keep pushing - when I'm tasked with a

Timing a command
I want to keep track of how long a task is running. Thinking it wouldn't take that long, I opted not to run time before it. The fact that it is taking a long time, if I revisit the machine in the morning, what would be the best way to find out what time it ended? In this case, I'm using mt to erase an lto3 tape - sudo mt -f /dev/st0 erase. But I'd like to use the knowledge from

Need uuid rpm for CentOS-5.2
On my development system I have installed PostgreSQL 8.x from the yum.pgsqlrpms.org repository. I am getting a dependency error: Error: Missing Dependency: libossp-uuid.so.15 is needed by package postgresql-contrib I can find references to this file in an rpm for fc7 (uuid-1.5.1-3.fc7.i386) but nothing else. Samba 3.0.24 + LDAP - User Lockout not working
Hi, im trying to setup a password policy with samba and openldap. while lockout works perfect on openldap it looks like it does not work with my samba. Ive set "sambaLockoutThreshold" to 3 and "sambaLockoutDuration" to -1 (lockout forever) within the Domain-Object in LDAP. So i expect whenever a windows user does 3 false logon attemps his samba account will be LOCKED

Dear list members, I encountered this problem and the solution pointed out in a previous thread did not work for me. (e.g. install.packages("RCurl", repos = "http://www.omegahat.org/R") I work with Ubuntu Hardy, and installed R 2.6.2 via apt-get. I really need RCurl in order to use biomaRt ... any help would be greatly appreciated. Best wishes, Emmanuel

URGENT: Skip installation ix86 packages from kickstart on 64bit arch?
Hi, Has any one know how to skip ix86 packages from installation in Centos kickstart? Most of our machines have 64bit Intel/AMD CPUs, and it make non-sense to still keep 32bit compatibility. Even worse of i*86 packages is, when upgrade we have to recompile both ix86 version and x86_64 version to get an automatic yum upgrade. I know we could use 'exclude' option to exclude i*86 packages

New installation does not show on network
Ever since installing Fedora 7, samba stopped showing the machine on the network. I can connect to it by entering the machine name (\\lazarus), but it will not show itself from a Windows machine. I tried a command suggested to test if it was listening and this is what I got; $ smbclient -L localhost -U% Domain=[LAZARUS] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.25b-2.fc7] Sharename Type

How to move my MBR
I removed an ATA drive (/home) for a new SATA and my system would not boot. I'm guessing that it put the MBR on that drive instead of the drive that holds the / partition. What's the best way confirm where the MBR resides and, after I verify that's my problem, how I can move (or make a copy) onto a different drive? Thanks, Scott

Overwrite target of ln
Hi all, Sorry if this seems too basic. But is there a way to overwrite the target of a symbolic link without first deleting the symlink itself? For example, if I have this: public_html -> releases/b2b-20080228 ... and there's a new update, I can then just do the following: $ ln releases/site-latest public_html I tried using the -f option but it doesn't seem to work as expected.
