Tag Proposal -> Tag Standard
Alright. So, the tag proposal that has been labored over for some months has now been reclassified a bit. There new URL is now here: http://reactor-core.org/ogg-tag-recommendations.html And is prefaced by the following statement: "The following recommendations were developed by a community of Ogg/Vorbis users for their own use." I believe the implication is that this document

packets and OGG pages
Hello all, my name is Mathias, I'd like to ask about some details of the OGG format because I'm quite new to it. I'd like to write a native .NET library for reading and writing Vorbis comments. It's going to be open-sourced as soon as it's finished. So here it goes: 1) When packing (Vorbis) packets to OGG pages, does a new packet always begin on a fresh OGG page? Within the

Thanks for the help Martijn, I get the same FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_END_OF_STREAM error after doing the 2 steps you suggested. Metadata, file signatures, and extentions
Hi, I've been working writing some tools that deal with id3v2 tags on mp3 files. id3v2 is this really, really long specification with places for all kinds of metadata for media. I've looking at the sample vorbis encoder and a file I made from it I noted that you have some a comment field, and I was wondering if you had any plans to support more metadata, and if you would

Metadata format.
Hi. Seeing as the topic appeared a while ago I was wondering: How do people feel about adopting ID3v2 for Vorbis aswell. This would, of course, mean it's given a stream of its own and even allow interleaving. It could be usefull, seeing as it would cut down on both initial development and software support, since a lot (most?) audio players already support it. It could also allow for code

problem with id3 tags
Hi, I just had a problem that is not described in the faq and it was quite hard to find the right fix so I wanted to send it here, hoping it will be added to the faq. The error message is the same as in: http://www.xiph.org/archives/vorbis/200210/0073.html Warning: Hole in data found at approximate offset 5238000 bytes. Corrupted ogg. In this case it was caused by id3tags added by grip.

What tags are allowed in ogg files?
Hi, I'm writing a tag-editor for ogg files. What tags, besides ogg-tags, are allowed in ogg files (if any). I'm thinking of id3v1, id3v2, ape tags and so on. I have a (probably small) problem with writing a new "comment header". I have tried opening a file with a valid header, and then simply moved some of the comment tags position, so that the total size and the count still

[Flac-users] How do I encode a FLAC with tags?
Ok so I can use any ID3v2 or v1 tagger (say the perl one) for FLAC files and things will be kosher? I'd LOVE to be able roll my own tagging scheme like you can in Vorbis and I don't mind doing some code either..I wasn't aware that FLAC was able to do that..or at least I didn't userstand how to do that. I guess that is where you register for your own developer ID eh? Josh

WAV Header and Tagging
Thanks for the reply, I have just recently started looking at Ogg streaming and wasn't sure if there was yet another playlist file for them, glad there isn't personally! Are there any sites set up to stream Ogg? Sorry about the confusion I was reading another thread on the discussion of someone that was implementing an Ogg ACM. In that case a FACT chunk makes peoples lives easier. OK,

Total Tracks Tag?
heyas- I believe there is a need for a standard vorbis comment field to encode "Total Number of Tracks (on a CD)". Why we need this -------------------- - Existing Vorbis programs already implement this, inconsistently, and hence don't interoperate. These seems the key reason to me. - MP3s include this - Some software (e.g., iTunes) uses this information, e.g., to display

Reading/Writing Ogg Vorbis tags from a Perl script
Hi, I wrote a quite useful perl script (and I am still working on it) that does all the renaming and tagging of my MP3 files automatically (which is very useful because I am an order fanatic and everything has to have MY format). I'm not quite done with ID3v2 support but that will probably work soon. As I am planning to start using Ogg Vorbis instead of MP3 in the future I am already now

error in files after removing padding
ERROR while decoding data state = FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_END_OF_STREAM It's happening with every file that I've tried now, using both 1.2.1 and 1.3.0. If a file has artwork and I remove padding, I get the above error when verifying or decompressing. If no artwork and I remove padding, the file verifies and decompresses with no issues. tag specifications
Hello all, I'm committing the heinous crime of posting before I've been on a list for very long, and I apologize in advance. I don't know how often this comes up and if it has recently if someone will just point me to an archive where this discussion has already happened, I'll shut up. I've got an MP3 tagger (QTagger) that I released a while back. I'm trying to

Metadata in b4 Vorbis files?
Help! I'm researching Vorbis as a solution for talk programming archiving (obviously more affordable for the budget conscious public radio stations than Real). An important feature will be the abillity to search the metadata of the audio files. Is this functionality already available with b4? I've also research an open standard for meta data tagging called MusicBrainz and they mention

An handful of tags !
Another problem I would like to speack about : tags. Each format appears to create its own tag. TwinVQ and WMA tags are limited but Mp3 has a good tag system (although the "genre" category could be improved). Now ogg develops a new kind of tagging. I imagine converting all my tags with thousand of tracks... real nightmare... Is there an authority or a project to standardiza tags ?

AW: embedded pictures in vorbis comments?
Hi, I think we can start by defining an official field name at www.xiph.org/vorbis/doc/v-comment.html which is used as a file system link to an existing image file. I suggest the field name to be "PICTURE". What is ogg MNG? Is it a container format for PNG files which should be embedded in OGG files? If I understand correctly, the picture would be placed in a different logical stream

Q: Tool to copy Vorbis comments to MP3 ID tags
Hi, I'm wondering: If you have audio files like foo1.ogg and foo1.mp3, and the Vorbis file has nice comments (title, tracknumber, artist, album, date, etc), is there a tool to copy the information to an MP3 file on a "best effort" strategy? I know that MP3 TAGs are quite limited regarding lengths. Regards, Ulrich
