remote/command line interface
This is for archiving purposes. I finished a "remote control interface" for ogg123 similar to that of mpg123. If ogg123 is ran with -R option then a command interface via stdin/stdout is offered. This is currently used by irmp3 (irmp3.sourceforge.net). The interface offers load/pause/stop/seek and several status messages. A patch for vorbis-tools 1.0 is available at: www.t3i.nl -

ogg123 - remote control interface
Halo vorbis devel team, I have a question concerning remote control interface in ogg123. I have searched this forum and Internet and found that in 2002 there was a patch made adding remote control interface to ogg123. My question is, if this will be included in the main trunk some day? Because this way whenever I upgrade ogg123 I have to adjust the patch and then patch it.... Thanks for answers

Vorbis beta4 and -b256 mode quality
Hi. Since I'm interested in quality, I did some listening tests using Vorbis beta4, mode -b256. I think that ~256kbps, ~5.5:1 compression is still a good tradeoff because I can put 6-7 albums on 1 CD-R (assuming that the average length of an album is ~50 minutes) while retaining excellent quality. My comments: 1.) most songs are transparent but there are still some glitches that appear

remote control
Hi, I am developing modules for irmp3, a mp3 jukebox. Currently it uses mpg123 to play mp3 files. A nice feature of mpg123 is that it can be started in "remote control" mode. In this mode, mpg123 takes commands from standard input, like load file, play and pause and it sends status info back to standard output. Irmp3 uses this mode to control mp3 playing. Since ogg-vorbis is becoming

Patch: remote interface for ogg123
Hi, A few months ago, I implemented a remote interface to ogg123 similar to that of mpg123. I did this to add playback of ogg files to irmp3, a mp3 jukebox that already interfaces with mpg123. I have tested the interface for a while and found it stable. I've sent patches to the irmp3 development team and hope that they'll be integrated soon in irmp3. It would be very usefull if the

Vorbis still glitching on metadata update?
Greetings, I am trying to track down a bug with intermittant glitching in our Vorbis streams. I am running Icecast 2.3.2 on Ubuntu 9.04. Several Vorbis clients seem to glitch on some (not all) metadata updates. As we update metadata 3 to 4 times a minute, this is something we are trying to fix, VLC gives the following output on metadata update: main warning: the mixer got a packet in

Ogg/Vorbis fenced out of Apple's airport airtunes
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 re all, a quick message to ask if anyone had the same experience trying to play Ogg/Vorbis encoded music via wireless airport connection (the new system Apple uses to playback on their speakers via wifi). i use pulse-audio to interact with A's proprietary system: works quite well, but still has some buffering glitches, so its more

Concatenating of OGG Vorbis files (again)
Hi there, I am trying to find a solution for the problem of contatenating OGG Vorbis files. Yes, I know that this can be done by standard "cat" tool but in this case there are generaly two problems. At first some of the players doesn't seek correctly (e.g. amarok). And the second problem is that if I have many files to concatenate (~50) then it takes quite long time for the player

ogg123 ^C changes
Hi There is a good thing with ogg123. When playing multiple files, like ogg123 a.ogg b.ogg Ctrl-C will skip to next file. However, if I first do a cat a.ogg b.ogg > c.ogg and then ogg123 c.ogg Ctrl-C will simple skip the and not just jump to chapter two. Is it a big change to ogg123 to just let it jump to next block when pressing Ctrl-C ? best regards/hans -- Hamletsgade 4 - 201,

Big bug in vorbis encoder?
I was just compressed a file with vorbis and I get a big glitch in the file when I play it back. Here's a picture of the sound (in SoundForge) before/after vorbis compression: http://www.artlum.com/pub/oggproblem.gif The top half of the image is the original wave file and the bottom half is the file after compression/decompression. The compressor was the latest Windows oggdrop, and I

Graceful degradation of signal
Hello all. In the shower the other day (where most of this sort of musing gets done, eh?) I was thinking about graceful degradation of audio signals. Let me apologise in advance if these are elementary concepts or if I demonstrate a complete lack of insight -- I don't rate even a dabbler status in the area of audio codecs. Anyway: If we have a 128kbs signal coming down a *udp* channel with

special spots
can someone email me a list of special spots in quality settings, or point me to a website that tells these settings? i know i may be confusing, i'm talking about like the jump between -q4.99 and -q5 because of the whole lossy/lossless channel coupling, and filesize jump...i also know somewhere above there there is different high and low frequency cutoffs, and a point where there IS NO

use of ogg midi to control lighting desk
Hi- i'm kinda busy doing other stuff at college to read through the mailing list properly, but i read somewhere before that midi data embeded in ogg vorbis files could be used to control lighting stuff. The lighting desk at college has a midi input to control most of the lighting functions. Its also right next to the sound desk. So i was wondering, if it is possible to stick midi data into

Font control under Wine
I'm wondering if there is a way to control the fonts with wine. I'm trying to run a game called Stars! under Wine. The first release was the RPM that came bundled with Mandrake 7.2. That worked fine and the fonts seemed mostly normal (occasional graphic glitches but nothing that couldn't be read) but whenever the program ended, it hung and popped up a debug dialog and would

midi data to control lighting desks
Hi- just wondering how things are progressing on the stick-midi-data-inside-a-vorbis-file (so i can sit back, relax & get drunk instead of manually doing a really complicated lighting show) <p>--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-request@xiph.org'
