new tarkin source
Hi,
I uploaded a new tarball to
http://www.informatik.hu-berlin/~waechtle/w3d-0.1.21.tar.gz.
The command line argument format has changed, it now expects a
byterate/frame and a filename format string like "%i.ppm".
Beside this I have added some minor changes in the coefficient
transmission code.
Please take a look on it, Jacks cat is only slightly blurred even at
1kB/frame -- the

video codec
Hi Lourens,
I fixed the YUV conversion and added a 'skip-empty-bitplanes' feature.
The latter is still buggy, I have to check this again. But images look
mach better now, even if you use higher compression ratios.
(try ./main 1500 150 150 for a 352x288 image -- the output becomes
blurred, but how does it looks when you compress it using jpeg down to
about 2kB ...).

2d wavelet transforms
I've been reading up on wavelet transforms the past week,
and I plan to start on some video compression stuff next
week, if it's any good (small chance :)) for Tarkin.
So far I think I know what's happening, however there's one
small thing I don't quite understand yet. If I understand
correctly, you can do a 2d wavelet transform (I'm assuming
a Haar transform here for

OggMux, a simple ogg file multiplexer
Hello,
I have in the past few days played a bit with libogg. My goal is to learn
enough of it to try wrapping current tarkin codecs into an ogg file, with
vorbis sound eventually.
I did work on a small program which allows you to easyly (de)multiplex
Ogg files in a way which seems to conform to the docs. You can do things
like:
oggmux in1.ogg in2.ogg in3.ogg - mux3.ogg
oggmux mux3.ogg -

Wavelet Functions
Does R have any wavelet functions? When I type

I get

what's the R code for wavelet decomposition (Haar transformation)?
Dear all,
Using R function "dwt", it seems that I cannot specify the wavelet
transformation like Haar. What's the R code for wavelet decomposition
which allows me to specify Haar wavelet transformation? Of course, if it
can include "db2", that is even better. In general, I want an R function
like matlab code "dwt". Thanks in advance!

help on wavelet
Hi,
I have little experience using wavelet and I would like to know if it is
possible, using R wavelet package, to have a plot of frequency versus time.
thank you

Help needed in wavelet transforming
Hello
I am currently working on forecasting hourly electricity prices where I am
required to do wavelet transformation. First I need to calculate
decomposition coefficients of the wavelet transform, then I need to select
wavelet function using multiresolution technique. I would be really
grateful if I can find any help in this matter.
Thanking You

NHW Project and wavelet codecs
Hello,
In my last post, I seemed to say that there were no directional wavelet
transforms that would give improvement to the NHW codec, but are
directional wavelets an active research field today? I have also seen some
recent patents on advanced and improved SPIHT, and I am a little surprised
that there is no "up-to-date" state-of-the-art wavelet codec.Rududu in

IDWT - Inverse Discrete Wavelet Transform
Hello,
I am not expert in wavelet.
i am working with a discrete dataset in 3D. I applied the D4 wavelet
transform to each dimension sequentially. I made some analysis in the
transformed space and i detected some interesting vowel.
My question is. How is it possible to map a 3d coordinate in the transformed
space to the related coordinate in the 3d original dataset? (i think that

wavelet parameters with sowas
Hello everybody.
My name is Angela.
I'm doing wavelet using the sowas library. The problem I have is that I
don't know how to choose the paremeters to describes differnt wavelet
analysis. How I select the noctave, nvoice, w0, s0,...?
I hope my question is clear enough.
Thank you very much beforehand.

using wavelet transform to calculate mean frequency of a signal
Dear list,
in short: I would like to calculate the mean frequency
of a signal (e.g. time series) using the wavelet transform.
with details: I did not find a R function to calculate a
mean frequency using one of the cran packages.
My searches using R Site Search returned:

Fwd: Re: Wavelet reconstruction
I realized that I may not have answered the question you were asking and that no one else has responded. I can across a similar problem and may have an answer to your question now. If you have both the wavelet coefficients and the scaling coefficients then create a fake sequence of the same length as the original and decompose that sequence using wd form wavethersh with the same wavelet family
