Decoder example question
Hey all...I'm trying to use the decoder_example.c in the examples directory to decode a .ogg file that was encoded by using the binary encoder ogglame.exe and encoded via the encoder_example.c. I'm running into a problem with the decoder though. It plays FINE under the WinAmp plugin but I when I try and use the decoder_example.c to decode the file it says "End of file before finding

This works: low bitrate encoding
Hey everyone, Here's one way to get .ogg files down to about ~20kbps, and it's not too hard: 1. Use sox to resample the files down to 11025khz mono. 2. Feed these to OGGLAME (Lame 3.84 Alpha 1 is what I had laying around on my hard drive). OGGENC demands that the files be 44.1khz, but this version of ogglame didn't seem to care what the sample rate was. I'm sure the quality

ogglame and LAME 3.85 beta
Hi there, I have a question on ogglame, especially on its compression quality. I've download the binary package of ogglame from www.vorbis.com. It works fine. I've also tried LAME 3.85 beta that supports the encoding and decoding of Vorbis streams. I believe that ogglame is a beta version of LAME. I built LAME using libvorbis in the CVS nightly snapshot fetched on July 19th. I fixed

To CELP or not to CELP ... at higher bitrates
Jean-Marc, I am building a tool for producing the highest possible quality Internet interviews for "podcasting" applications. The goal is to produce a perfect recording of an interview or conference -- and giving the participants a glitch-free experience is secondary. My approach, therefore, is to build a Windows "wave" file asynchronously by using a streaming

Book descriptions?
Can anybody tell me where I can find some info on the new books? I noticed there are now A-E. What exactly does this mean? How does it translate to higher and lower sampling frequencies and bit rates? Ideally I'd like something in the 11kHZ, 8bit mono area... I also noticed this struct: /* CD quality stereo, no channel coupling */ vorbis_info info_B={ /* channels, sample rate, upperkbps,

Black frames need higher bitrates than moving ones?!
I'm capturing video from a webcam and encoding it using Theora through Zen's DirectShow filter. I noticed that black frames (webcam lens shut) produce 45 KB/s (target bitrate is 400 kbps), while moving video is around 8-20 KB/s. How can that be? Is the encoder fooled by the background noise the webcam produces? Maybe it has to do with the quality setting, though I don't know what

Tinc hangs if started with network disconnected
I use systemd or monitd scripts to check if the tinc vpn nodes are pingable and simply restart the tinc daemon if they're not. In my case I have i have a complicated dns setup where at tinc boot time DNS is not yet resolving by the time tinc starts. A simple ping check on the fqdn for the master nodes does the job. Freeamp output plug-in
Hello: I don't usually post requests like this to mailing lists, but I've just about run out of other options. The vorbis.org and vorbis.com sites both make mention of a beta vorbis output plug-in for freeamp, but I'm blowed if I can find it anywhere. It's definitely not in the vorbis.com download section (unless it's been placed their within the last 24 hours or so), and

Problems compiling vorbis.lib in MS Land
Hey all...for whatever reason when opening up the vorbis_vc6 project in Dev Studio bitwise.c and framing.c are still in the project. From my understanding these files are only in the ogg library now. If I try to compile the project as is, it fails because it can't find the files. Simple solution: Delete the two files. I just thought I'd give somebody a heads up.... Keep up the great

Bugfix patch for vorbize, compat patch for grip
Hey. Last night I hacked grip so that it'd allow me to use vorbize and comments with grip. It's very ugly because grip'd need a bit of rearrangement in order to facilitate the way the vorbis comments work (that is, the comments are not added in after the encoded file has been written). Any one who wants to use it should patch grip-2.94 (http://www.nostatic.org/grip), and make sure you

New beta bug reports/bug report
Hi. Joined the list since this seems to be the only point of communication. Just have two comments/questions. 1) I looked all around the developer's site and vorbis.com and don't see any mention of where to send bug reports for 1.0 beta. I'd think it would be a FAQ. 2) My bug for the new beta. (I'm hoping someone of the PTB is reading ... I definitely don't belong on the

Higher mono bitrate in CVS libvorbis
Hi: I have been curious as to Vorbis' performance at -q0 for some time now. When RC3 came out, I used a track I have here and encoded it at q0 at 11.025, 16, 22.05, 32 and 44.1khz, both in stereo and in mono. After having heard the great sound of -q 0 in stereo, I thought I'd see what bitrate I got with -q0 in mono. I was disturbed to discover that the resulting file was 9.5kbps higher

bitrate for slow modems

As others have said, 16kbps should do the trick. Keep in mind though that the quality of the sound will also depend on the sampling rate. MP3 will handle some higher sampling rates higher than some of

Hardcoded header values?
Hey all...I'm getting "Missing header in logical bitstream." error when trying to decode a Ogg file stream. I know the file is good because it plays fine in WinAmp etc, etc. The funky part to this is that I'm wrapping my own headers around each "packet" and now I'm trying to de-wrap them and I'm running into this problem. What I'm wondering is if vorbisfile

Vorbize.c
Are there any attempts currently being worked on to make Vorbize Visual C++ compatable? Or for that matter non-GNU compatiable? I guess I never realized that getopt.h was a GNU thing. What would be the suggested course of action to get vorbize to cross compile on VC++ or other non-GNU platforms? If not I can certainly do this because I'd like to be able to run this on Windows but I
