(Classical) Request for Standardization of expanded TAGS
A month or two ago I sent an email to this list proposing to expand
the list of "standard" tags for Ogg Vorbis. No tag would be required,
but if you wanted to encode certain types of information about a file,
you could use a standard tag.
I went through the whole discussion, and revised my proposal in light
of all the comments from everyone. Here is the updated proposal.

In socket.c, the variable error is unitilialzed.
Also the variable length should be an unsigned int.

Can one write a procedure in R like for instance in Maple ?
Dear R-wizards!
I have been learning on my own how to use this fantastic program.. but I agree with some people that even with the manuals, the faq and so on.. when you are sitting fully alone.. progress can be ... slow... very slow indeed.. In fact sometimes, looking at the "solutions" provided by some of you- I am just flabbergasted to the point that I couldn't figure out how to

Fwd: Issue starting unicorn with non-ActiveRecord Rails app
Hi,
I''m trying to use unicorn in a test deployment of a Rails app that
uses Mongoid, so Activerecord isn''t included in the app. When I start
unicorn through Capistrano though, the stderr log fills up endlessly
with identical ActiveRecord-related errors:

Running an expression 1MN times using embedded R
Hello,
I'm evaluating this expression
expression({ for(x in 1:5){ .Call('rh_status','x') }})
a million times from a program with R embedded in it. I have attached
reproducible code that crashes with

Samba and OS X 10.4.2 - vfs quota inheritance not correct
We're running Samba 3.0.20 on a Solaris 9 server, using the Blastwave build.
smb.conf file is below. Our user homes are on a Veritas file system with
vxquota enabled, usually 50M per user, and then users have links under their
home dirs to file systems with larger quotas or no quotas.
For example, /home/joeuser has a 50M vxquota, but /home/joeuser/aux is a
softlink to /vol/aux on which

DHCP client not working with Windows DHCP / dynamic DNS server
# Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5754 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express
DEVICE=eth0

HWADDR=00:22:19:XX:XX:XX
ONBOOT=yes
DHCP_HOSTNAME=centos.XXXXXXXXXX.local
In this particular instance, it's a place where Windows is used for DHCP
and DNS servers. :( I have no control over the Windows side of things.
The Windows sysadmins claim I don't need a fixed IP address, because DNS

Review of Ruby For Rails Chapter 3
Here''s my review of Chapter 3:
As the author says, this is a transitional chapter. The first chapter was
an introduction to Ruby, and the second was a similar introduction to Rails.
Now we begin the real purpose of the book, which is to dig into the Ruby
behind the Rails.
Periodically the question arises on this list about how much Ruby you need
to know in order to do Rails.

transition to ip6
I imagine some day in the near future there will be a switch to ipv6.
I cannot imagine ever remembering the ip address then...crazy.
My question, since i have never done ip6 stuff, is what does that mean
on my webservers?
Would I just need to replace my ip4 with ip6 in my eths, bonds, bridges,
and configuration files...and copy out my iptables to ip6tables, and
change the dns servers?

Vorbis stream up now
Greetings:
If you're using the latest XMMS (CVS preferably), FreeAmp, Sonique
(?), or ogg123 (maybe), please check out this URL for a Vorbis playlist
stream:
http://64.108.112.34:8000/shouter.ogg
The playlist is lengthy, and I've set it to repeat three times, so it
will be on-line for a while. Please let me know how well or badly the
stream was received, thanks.

HA Xen on 2 servers!! No NFS, special hardware, DRBD or iSCSI...
I''ve been brainstorming...
I want to create a 2-node HA active/active cluster (In other words I want to run a handful of
DomUs on one node and a handful on another). In the event of a failure I want all DomUs to fail
over to the other node and start working immediately. I want absolutely no
single-points-of-failure. I want to do it with free software and no special hardware. I want
