Re: FLAC to mp3 batch converter?
Christian,
Sorry I don't think I was so clear with my explaination of what I
am doing. Your requirement flac -> mp3 is really a special case
of ripping, if you think of the entire chain....
normal ripping:
CD -> wav -> mp3
Your case is
[CD -> wav ->] flac -> wav -> mp3
Which is equivalent to:
flac -> wav -> mp3
I need this too and am proposing to use a ripping

FLAC: best ripping software?
Hi,
I was hoping somebody could answer me this question:. I'm looking for the
best audio CD ripper software, maybe somebody can tell me what you think is
the best ripper available? The operating system it runs on is not important,
I just want to know what's considered the best audio cd ripping software.
In this way I want to make perfect input WAV files for the FLAC encoder.
thanks in

Re: FLAC to mp3 batch converter?
Hi Christian,
There is a perl script called rip (rip.sourceforge.net) that I was
looking to alter for a similar requirment (flacs at home -> mp3s
on laptop). I patched flac support into it for the encoder a couple
of months ago.
At the moment it uses cdparanoia to rip from CD but should not be
hard to add flac as an alternative 'ripper' to make wavs and then
you can use the encoder

CentOS 8 CD Ripper
Hey all,
Does anyone know of a CD ripper that will work with CentOS 8? I've
found a great many that will work CentOS 6 and 7 but nothing that will
build for CentOS 8.

best way to ensure integrity of flac source files?
if there was a flac-users list i'd be asking these questions there, but
anyway =)
on windows, i've been using eac in secure mode and using "test & copy" to
verify that the crc checksums match. invariably, i'll get one or two
mismatches per album i rip, so i figure the checksum verification is a good
thing despite the extra time. once i rip a cd, i want to forget

FLAC CD Archive
Hi,
Bit late to join in the discussion but I've just read through the CD
archiving discussion and was particular interested in Dax's method,
described here (also included below):
http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/flac/2006-September/000611.html
So far I've just been flac-ing my CDs to individual one-flac-per-track
files, however it appears I've been missing some of the other bits

wav/raw normalization
Hey all. I was an "early" adopter of mp3 (1994-1995), and I took great pains
to use digital audio extractors and avoid jitter and whatnot thru proper
hardware - back then, this was no mean feat. Well, I'm starting to switch to
Ogg (dragging out all the CD's, starting over) and I want to know if anyone
has an informed opinion on the merits or demerits of "normalization"

Ripping CD´s to Ogg Vorbis under Linux
Hi,
I recently migrated from Windows to Linux. I´ve used Linux quite a bit
in server-enviroments, but as a desktop I have very little experience.
I am now looking for a tool to rip CD´s to Ogg with CDDA support. I´ve
tried KonCD, but it lacks features and is abit buggy.
Sure, I can use cdparanoia, rename the wav´s to the right names and then
encode to ogg via oggenc. But since I use X I

Oh I don't doubt the basics, red book is red book and bits are
identically replicable and re rippable bits. But just as I said, there

Choosing a processor
Hello!
I am about to buy a new computer, and because encoding/decoding .ogg files
is the most processor intensive thing I intend to regularly do, I would like
to know which is the "recommended" processor for real-time encoding (I
record my favourite radio shows).
TIA!

PS: I receive the FM radio stations through my cable (the one which brings
me cable TV),

flac with ogg metadata to ogg vorbis transcode, new release of vorbis-tools?

hi Is there any tool out there wich allows you to use a flac file with
ogg metadata as an the file of origin and converts its to an ogg.vorbis

script wich does something similar but it keeps the metadata in separate
files, basicly what I am asking is if there is any application that

Newbie: How to copy track from CD for MOH without getting "Junk at beginning of frame ..."
I was copying tracks from CD into mp3 files so that I could use it in
Asterisk 1.4.21.2 MOH. (BTW, I have already secured proper license to
play MOH to callers.)
I used MS Media Player version 11 and rip it at 128kbps (smallest) but
whenever I listen to MOH, I saw the following message on the Asterisk
console.

FLAC CD Archive
I see that this was the right place to fire off this question. Thanks
for your feedback. It has given me a base to start some trials. I used
to use EAC on Windows, but I tend to only use open source software as
much as possible and I don't use Windows any more. I gave a brief look
at abcde, but it is clear I need to look at this some more. It looks
like it has the potential to do everything I

"vorbiscomment"
Hello,
I'd like to use abcde to rip my CD:s to Ogg Vorbis format - but abcde wants
a "vorbiscomment" in my PATH. I assume it's a tool for inserting meta-data
into Ogg Vorbis files, but where do I get it? The vorbis-tools package
doesn't seem to contain it.
(Platform: Linux)
Thanks!

Kernel module indispensable?
I don't need 3D acceleration but I'm interested in the nouveau driver
because I hope it'll be able to properly set the mode of my card: currently
nv is unable to make my card display 1600x1200 via DVI (it works OK via VGA
but the quality is bit less stunning).
So I compiled and installed it, but now I encountered a problem: it seems
that (contrary to both the nv and the nvidia
