Format converters
Are direct bit-rate converters possible for Ogg Vorbis? Or do they already exist? Even more, is it possible to directly convert MP3/ATRAC3 (i.e., Sony Minidisc) encoding to and from Ogg Vorbis? There has been an earlier discussion on this question. But this discussion centered around the fact that people couldn't see the point, and were rather hostile to the idea. There is a very good

Suspected GPL violation by Erightsoft "super"
Hi guys, the SUPER codec by Erightsoft http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html contains lots of GPL and LGPL code: mplayer, ffmpeg, x264, musepack, theora, which they admit and give credit for. Still, their product is proprietary, and they insist on it. I tried to get the source through their forum, but they of course won't give it: http://www.erightsoft.net/Supforum.html I'll forward

Vorbis bistream definition / separation from ogg
Hi, I have some questions: 1) in the sources of the encoder_example (and of course in oggenc.c, too) I see a lot of dependance on ogg. I want to get totally rid of ogg and use the vorbis bitstream alone. From this reason stems the second question: 2) is there a definition of the vorbis bitstream somewhere? I don't need to know every single detail, just the informations necessary to

Ogg compared to MPC and AAC
In researching Ogg Vorbis, I have started to become aware of many other audio formats I never knew about, such as FLAK. Well, today I have become aware of two other formats I hadn't heard of before: MPC and AAC. Can anyone tell me what they think of these formats in comparison to Ogg Vorbis? If anyone considers this Off-Topic, please feel free to email me personally. I'm not trying to

high bitrate quality?
Hi all, I used vorbis several years ago because of its freeness and VBR, but after playing ha.org and getting an mp3-capable discman, I switched to APS and API mp3 encoding. Now, I am liking musepack a lot, but the flexibility is more "there" for the vorbis format, including players, tagging comments (lyrics in the comments - killer idea!), etc.... However, I am a bit worried

Here is a link to what they say about "Other Formats"
http://mp3licensing.com/other/index.html They list: Atrac 3, (E)Pac, AAC ..and various patents of theirs they believe that these formats rely on.. then basically say: "We have not yet determined our licensing policy for this format" Vorbis is not mentioned.. [OT] (newbie alert) - home DV video and Premiere?
> Q1) Is there an easy "setup.exe" or similar, to install the Vorbis codec > into Windows? Not as such, no. I think what you're looking for, for your purposes, is an ACM codec, to produce Vorbis data wrapped in a RIFF-WAV header. For use in WAV and AVI and the like. I did come across such a beast a while back, but I think it had trouble recognizing/decoding RC2-encoded data.

AACplus
Sorry for the crosspost but it's relevant to Vorbis and Icecast I believe. I'm seeing more and more streaming stations using AACplus, with many listeners being amazed at the sound quality. Most say that a 48kb/s sounds better than a 128kb/s MP3, which would put Ogg Vorbis at around 96kb/s IMO. That means only half the bitrate is required in AACplus compared to Ogg Vorbis for the same

Error on sound files with totem removed
I decided to go ahead and remove totem (don't much care for it anyway), and when I double-click a sound file in nautilus, it runs mplayer to play the file, but I also get an error window (from mplayer) that says "[AO OSS] audio_setup: Can't open audio device /dev/dsp: Device or resource busy" but it is playing the sound file just fine. I can close the error window and everything

Video online
Hi, I held an introduction to Creative Commons last week. The Theora-encoded video (and slides) are available at www.romal.de . I had some serious problems encoding to theora. Is there a canonical way to convert mov and/or wmv to Theora ? I fiddled around whith ffmpeg2theora, but always got some out-of-sync-problems with audio and video. cu romal
