asterix and phone system
I am currently looking at putting together an Asterisk PBX system for my home office. One of the things I need is an expandable 2-line corded/cordless phone system. If I wasn't using Asterisk, I'd be getting one of these AT&T systems with 2 extra handsets. http://telephones.att.com/attui/shop/product_detail.cfm?itemID=ad53fe08-495e-41b6-b390-3aaa1c84cc40 So, the question is,

xbox asterisk?
http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/pulpit20050512.html interesting comment this week about the Xbox - any intelligent thoughts here? I know the price point puts it above most users Asterisk outlay (I run mine on a $100 P3 -800) But interesting to see what happens if people start running video conferencing etc on their home asterisk servers, and lets face it where else can you buy this

Samba and MC/Service Guard
Samba friends, I work in Wal-Mart's IT department, specifically with Unix Servers of various flavors, but HP-UX is predominant in our Home Office environment. I recently built an two node HA cluster on HP 11.11 boxes. I want to be able to have Samba use the virtual name of my cluster. Currently Samba is configured to use the hardcoded box name, however if the box happens to go down, we

HD Failures
I'm just curious if any one else has noticed this. I've bought hard drives from both Walmart and Best Buy. If I can wait, I order them from newegg.com. I'm beginning to think that the staff at both Walmart and Best Buy, somewhere along the supply line must dribble the drives like basket balls. The reason I say that is all the drives I have bought from those two places fail within a few

brainfart #67453 - hyper-index
I don''t know if this has been suggested before but.. What about adding support for a bookmark or hyperlinked index? The idea is that a large compilation such as a long speech or an album would be maintained as a single file, but on playback, the player would show numerous ''tracks'' which are really just bookmarks relating to starting position of the specific part or

Cannot join Ubuntu12.04 Samba 4.1.17 to domain
I reproduced error WERR_DEFAULT_JOIN_REQUIRED in two scenarios: - user account that is used to join machine to domain is not part of Domain Admin group. - OU path for computer (specified in createcomputer) is invalid In both of those cases I'm getting detailed error messages: 'insufficient access' and 'invalid path' respectively but on customer site I'm always getting:

Mysterious (bogus?) rsync(d) errors -- (code 23) at main.c(1045)
Folks, (1) Please pardon me if this is something stupid, but I've googled like mad and not figured it out (the other reports of this error don't seem to apply to me) (2) I would be thrilled to hire an rsync expert to troubleshoot this for me, so offer if you are one. The setup: I have 2 identical RHAS3u4 servers, running linux 2.6.10. On a nightly basis, we are rsyncing all of the

[1.1.1] Too much quantization on flat red surfaces
Hi, I've tested Theora on an HD-ready material, with quality 7, single pass. Resulting bitrate was 1.8Mb/s. Most parts of a movie encoded this way look fine, usually better than a DVD, and in daylight scenes, have no noticeable artifacts at all. But it seems that red surfaces are too much compressed; blocking artifacts are clearly visible on them. Also, white people have slightly smeared

couple basic questions
My desire to run Asterisk is finally giving me the reason to install a Linux box at home. Is RH9 the only distro that Asterisk will run on, and can anyone recommend a good source for a cheap Linux (RH9) box? For example, walmart.com has microtel boxes with no OS. Will RH9 and Asterisk run on these boxes? Thanks! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...

Extracting Sequence Data from a Vector
Thanks in advance. I have a vector of numbers which contain sections that are sequences which increase by a value of 1 followed by a gap in the data and then another sequence occurs, etc: x<-c(1:3, 6: 7, 10:13) From the vector I need to extract 2 items of information A) the first number in the sequence (e.g., 1, 6, 10) and B) how many observations were in each sequence section (e.g., 3,

how do I download pictures from a dumb phone?
How do I download pictures from a dumb phone? I have a Samsung phone I bought at a Walmart. According the the front, it worships Verizon. Beyond that, I'm not at all sure what kind. If I use a real USB connector to connect it to my PC, CentOS sees it as a character special device. What, if anything, I can do with that device, I do not know. I've not found any settings related to USB. In

Looking for player recommendations...
I'm looking for personal recommendations for low cost flash based players which support Vorbis (speex and flac support would be nice, but aren't mandatory). Solid support (no weird limits for low and high bitrates) is required. I'd be buying a fair quantity of them to give away as prizes and gifts. I'd rather purchase players which have native Vorbis support rather than buying

Extension proposal - partly serious
Alright folks, here's the solution. 1) Keep extensions to 3 letters for audio & video. Except for special situations where the user might be doing a codec specific name. Since the official extensions are 3 letters, those can always be used on any 8.3 device. 2) introduce a new extension .OGV for ogg container video. With a strong preference for Xiph only codecs. (If you want 3rd

Running stats on individual data.frames from the split() function list
Hello, and thanks in advance. I have a data.frame from which I want to count observations that occur on each day and determine the mean and std.error of said counts. For instance: x<-split(my.df, my.df$julian.days) Although I'm still in my R learning infancy I am under the impression that x is a list of data.frames subsetting my.df by group (i.e.,julian.day) where day 1:366 are

Segmentation fault in buffer_append_space for AIX 5.3 for openssh-4.0p1
For AIX 53 ML01 I'm getting a "Segmentation fault in buffer_append_space at line 85 in file buffer.c" in sshd after typing my password for a new connection to the AIX 5.3 host. Line 85 is "if (buffer->offset == buffer->end) {". Is this caused by an old bug in buffer_append_space? Regards Rob v.d. Wal

H&R Block Tax cut with wine
I purchased H&R Block Tax cut Deluxe to do my 2004 taxes. I decided to give The Feb 2005 version of Wine under Fedora 1 a try before rebooting my machine to Windows and actually starting to work on my taxes. Wine seemed to install Tax Cut with out any problems. However, when I tried to start Tax Cut 2004 , it complained that Mozilla did not have an active X Browser and offered to go on
