[Flac-users] WinAmp PlugIn and Ogg framing.
Hello flac-users, I'm trying to play an ogg flac file in WinAmp 2.80 but I get nothing. I'm using the native Vorbis plugin and the shipped FLAC 1.04 plugin. I guess it's a conflict regarding which plugin "owns" the ogg extension or format. I'm not sure. But I wanted to know how good the ogg framing was. But I couldn't test it because metaflac doesn't

Flac metadata feature
I found a "feature" or a bug in metaflac (and possibly libflac) metadata handling. If you try to add some tags to file, and padding field is not big enough, padding size doesn't get increased automaticly, so you receive an error about corrupted file (tried both with foobar2k and metaflac). But if you previously add more padding with "--add-padding=", everything goes

using vorbiscomments with metaflac not utf8-encoded
Using metaflac (1.0.3) like this: metaflac file.flac --set-vc-field=title=test??????e? The vorbiscomment will not be UTF8-encoded, instead they will be stored directly as ANSI. When trying to add some more comment, it gave the following error: ERROR: writing FLAC file file.flac, error = FLAC__METADATA_CHAIN_STATUS_OK Does that mean that weren't enough room for the comments? But

flac and metadata
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 The recent thread on archiving CDs with flac has prompted me to ask a few questions about flac and metadata: 1.1) It appears that metaflac only imports limited information from a cuefile. Text data (ie: Title, Artist) and any comments are removed from the file. I can kind of see eating the comments, but why are the perfectly valid text fields not

reading vorbis comments with FLAC++?
Well, I'm quite frankly stumped. I'm writing a program that recurses into directories and reads (among others) FLAC files and should be able to read the vorbis comments ARTIST and TITLE from the file. A while back, I was popen()ing to metaflac, because I didn't want to mess with libFLAC. But now, it's the weekend, so I can mess around with this. Here's the code in question:

[Flac-users] Any significant changes for 1.0.5?
Hello Josh, I'm about to encode some of my CDs. Are any significant changes for 1.0.5 that I may want to wait (like with VorbisComment) or is it really near? -- Best regards, Alejandro Belluscio

metaflac --no-utf8-convert complains about UTF
This is 1.3.1 on OpenBSD/amd64. The --no-utf8-convert option of metaflac(1) does not work for me: $ metaflac --no-utf8-convert --set-tag="Artist=?ou?l??ek" aladin.flac aladin.flac: ERROR: tag value for 'Artist' is not valid UTF-8 (You probably can't see the Czech letters properly in my mail, but that's beside the point.) Indeed, it is not valid UTF8 (it's LATIN2),

[Flac-users] Can I use Vorbis comment on ogg - flac?
Hello flac-users, I'm storing my ripped CDs on FLAC until Vorbis 1.0 gets out (supposedly RSN). But I want to enter the vorbis comment just once. Since I'll use ogg bitstream for both files, I was wondering if I could use vorbiscomment or tOGGer on ogg-flac files? Is there any tool (besides de pipe) to convert ogg-flac to ogg-vorbis? Best regards, Alejandro Belluscio

FLAC: getting compression level using metaflac
Hi FLAC list! I have a question (maybe a strange one) about getting the compression level (0-8) using metaflac. So I want to know for a given FLAC file what compression level was used to compress that file. I tried using the --list option but this doesn't give any information about this. Is there a way to get the compression level of a given FLAC file using metaflac or another tool? thx

newbie questions re flac on win32 eac and id3v2
Firstly, a big thank-you to Josh for FLAC. Someone mentioned it in a post on Slashdot, so I came over to sourceforge for a look-see. This is just the sort of thing I've been looking for. Can anyone relate any general tips for using flac on Windows for the purpose of archiving cd's? If I can nail down a solid, easy-to-use process, I'm happy to write it up and contribute it to the

FLAC: getting compression level using metaflac
Why isn't the compression level added in a metadata block by the flac encoder itself (just like the encoder version)? In this way all programs that read the file can see what compression level was used. thx 2007/7/4, Scot Thompson <scot.thompson@cox.net>: > > This has been asked many times. The answer is no. is ogg flac ready to be used by the average user?
Sorry for the somewhat off-topic post, but while we are on the subject of flac, here's my question: Is the current version of ogg flac (encoded with flac.exe from the official flac website) some kind of beta implementation or is it a fully compatible release that will continue to be supported by future applications? The reason I'm asking is because I get the following error message when

test_metaflac fails in make check for flac 1.1.2 after --add-padding is performed
Josh, I applied this patch and all the "make check" tests passed (but I do not have valgrind and I did not use --enable-exhaustive-tests during configure, so it isn't all the tests). Do you see anything suspicious about it? --- flac-1.1.2.oldBuild/src/flac/decode.c 2005-01-24 20:13:46.000000000 -0800 +++ flac-1.1.2/src/flac/decode.c 2006-09-06 23:36:26.000000000 -0700

[Flac-users] is there a way to read the length of a song from the command line?
I am working on an audio jukebox and would like to read the length of a song (minutes:seconds) from a perl script. Is there a way to do that? I don't see anything in the docs for flac or metaflac. [Flac-users] command line util to read tag info
[edit: sorry Josh, sent the first one to the wrong address] I'm trying to automate the process of converting flac to mp3 while preserving tag information, but can't find any way of reading the fields from the flac file on the command line (unix). Neither flac nor metaflac seem to have any option for printing the tag info to stdout. Any ideas? mike
