Why FLAC, why not MAC?
Why do some of you use FLAC for lossless encoding? I've done some
test and MAC filesizes were always smaller. I don't seem to see what
the problem is.

OggVDS Where?
Where can I download the Ogg Vorbis DirectShow Filter? I've heard,
that there is a newer version than 0.9.9.5. There's a bug in either
OggMux or Tobias' Filter which causes text to be erased after special
(unicode?) characters in the chapter list.

Listing of oggdropXPd at http://www.vorbis.com/software/
Could I request, please, that the link on this page that currently
points to: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jfe1205/OggVorbis/ be changed to
point to: http://www.rarewares.org/ogg-oggdropxpd.php
It is simply that the Rarewares site can support a much greater
bandwidth than I can and I usually update it ahead of my own webspace.
(It's also a 'proper' web site rather than just an ftp

HTTP encapsulated rsync??
Hi folks, I am hoping someone here can offer some suggestions. Here
is my situation:
I am using rsync over the internet for several hundred clients to
keep them in sync with a master repository of files. The rsync
daemon is listening on port 80, because most of the clients are
behind firewalls that only allow outbound port 80 (and other common
ports). This works fine for most of them

ogg causing me heart burn
Dear forum,
I have a install of asterisk using AMP. I followed the install guide
off the AMP site.
http://amp.coalescentsystems.ca/docs/AMP_Installation_Guide_v1.4.pdf
When I start using amportal start or asterisk -ccccv I received this in my log.
The last line is that ogg failed. I have found nothing on the web
about this, and I am not even sure where to start troubleshooting.
Any help

Exclude dirs but not files??
Hi all, is it possible to exclude directories without excluding the
files _in_ the directories? I ask because one of the things I do on
a nightly basis is do a recursive dry-run against an entire webroot
with the size-only option. Very often, all the files themselves will
be just fine, but the directories themselves will be listed as
needing updated. It would be nice if I could

rsync on multiple ports?
Hi all,
I need my rsync to listen on port 8090 as well as on the standard rsync port. Is this possible, and if so, how does one do this? Thanks!

perl-cpan
Dear list,
I was installing Asterisk via the AMP method off the AMP website.
There is a portion in there where they want you to use perl-cpan to
install telnet.
The first time I installed I had no problem. I messed up and trashed
the box further down in the install.. This time I made a mistake and
put a -jp3 switch for multi processors. This has caused the install
of telnet tank. I found

win32sdk-1.0.1
If you are after a 1.0.1 SDK built in the same format as 1.0, and if the
current CVS is firm for the release, then you can download the SDK from:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jfe1205/OggVorbis-win32sdk-1.0.1.zip
This is built from the current CVS using MSVC++6 SP5.
If this helps speed up the release, great, otherwise, no problem, it kept me
amused for a few minutes!!

oggdropXPd quality selection problems
To those who have reported having a problem selecting real number quality
settings, could you kindly test the new compile you can d/l from:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jfe1205/testXPd.ZIP and report whether this
resolves the problem.
No major changes, but I regularised a number of type casting discrepancies
that could have been causing a problem.
I'm sorry to have to ask for help on this

SMBD Runs as root
Since loading 2.0.x of Samba, the SMBD process is always ran as "root" when
users connect. I just compiled Samba 2.0.3 on a AIX 4.2 to fix it
according to the enhancement document. SMBD is still running as "root" on
2.0.3. Does anybody have a work around for this.
