server recommentation (unique requirements)
Howdy. I've been having trouble finding a fairly modern server that meets the following requirements: - Molex power connectors (don't want to use the Digium FXS power supply) - 4 PCI slots, one full-length (TDM2400P, 2xT100P, additional NIC) - dual power supplies - preferably dual CPUs >= 1GHz - preferably rack-mountable (3-4RU) - CentOS-friendly We'd also like to stay away from

Vorbis comment support in WMP
Hullo, http://wmptagext.sourceforge.net/ This program claims to add APEv2 tagging support for various formats to Windows Media Player. Its Vorbis support is incomplete (it adds APEv2 to .ogg files!) but I hope the media library functionality can be integrated with Illiminable's DirectShow filters. I haven't really tried it yet. YMMV. Cheers, Kyungjoon Lee

Volume changing à la MP3Gain?
Hullo, There's a program called mp3gain which can be used to alter the volume of an MP3 file in 1.5 dB steps. I once heard somewhere (I can't remember *where*, but I swear) that something similar is possible with Vorbis files, but in approximately 2.2 dB steps. Is this true, or is my memory at fault? If it's possible to change the volume of a Vorbis 1.0 file, could someone please

Some comments on the Vorbis FAQ
Hi, http://www.vorbis.com/faq/#mean points to http://www.xiph.org/xiphname.html, which is dead. The actual content is at http://www.xiph.org/xiphname.shtml The Xiph names page seems to be in UTF-8, but its meta tag mentions ISO 8859-15, which can cause problems with raw characters for the pronunciations. I propose the use of the International Phonetic Alphabet. How about [?g]/[?g] for Ogg and

Hi,
Hi, thank you for closing ticket 543, "vorbiscomment man page not exhaustive". :) https://trac.xiph.org/ticket/543 If it's not too much of a burden, could you also apply this patch, please? It's pretty straight-forward. Thank you. :) Cheers, Kyungjoon Lee -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Name: vorbiscomment-kjoonlee.diff Type:

Request for Standardization: classical music TAGS
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- [ Sorry for sending this twice; I sent it to the vorbis-dev list by mistake. ] The ALBUM, ARTIST, TITLE, and TRACKNUMBER tags aren't sufficient for classical music. MP3 muffed it, but since Vorbis is so flexible, I'd like to propose that ogg123 recognize and display the following optional tags, instead of giving an error message that it doesn't

logon script won't start anymore after update 2.2.3a -> 2.2.8.a
Dear list, last friday I had a frustrating experience during the update of my samba server. I've been running samba since 1998, now there are 50 users with win2k-boxes attached - the samba server acting as PDC. Becauce of a swap of the old server I finally decided to update to 2.2.8a. What I did (in general): - installed the new server with suse 8.2 prof - Installed the suse-rpms for

high bitrate quality?
Hi all, I used vorbis several years ago because of its freeness and VBR, but after playing ha.org and getting an mp3-capable discman, I switched to APS and API mp3 encoding. Now, I am liking musepack a lot, but the flexibility is more "there" for the vorbis format, including players, tagging comments (lyrics in the comments - killer idea!), etc.... However, I am a bit worried

Importing Accounts from Windows?
Is there some automated system to import windows accounts into a samba or a samba ldap situation? I've got a few hundred users on an NT domain, and I'd like to migrate them sometime before the last piece of hardware supported by NT4 rusts. Right now several linux based samba servers are doing all of the heavy lifting (shared files printers etc), but they are all looking at the domain

Preference of Linux flavors
I recently set up a Linux machine after several years of being stuck with only Windows. I've used Linux from as far back as when you had to load Slackware from a stack of floppies. When I loaded Linux on my current machine I picked Fedora just because I was familiar with Red Hat. Now, I'm beginning to question the wisdom that decision. Fedora seems a bit too Windows-like for my tastes.

error handling in R/ lapack routines
Does any of you know where I can find an explanation of lapack errors codes? I get error code 17 when using optim(). Is there a way to handle errors in R such that depending on the type of error I can decide what to do next? Thanks, Haky

FLAC Albums on sale this month
I don't want this to sound like an advertisement, because I'm certainly not making any money off of this, but Bleep.com is having a sale on lossless downloads, and nearly all of the titles are available in FLAC. http://bleep.com/index.php?page=dynamic&module=marchsale Bleep offers a nice alternative to Linn Records and HDtracks, in case your tastes are more underground.

Building static HTML help pages in R 2.10.x on Windows
I upgraded to R2.10.1pat and discovered, along with everybody else, that static HTML pages are no longer the default. Fine; my tastes would go the other way, but I'm happy to adapt. However, I'd still like to build static HTML pages (for stable bookmarking, use when R is not running, etc.). I'm using the Windows installer, so the advice in the R Installation & Admin guide

RE: Converting to 1.1.4, help please!
Hey Jud, Thanks! I copied two of my FLAC folders (CDs) into a temp dir just to test it out and see if I could get it to run. I put the four unzipped files into the dir folder and opened a cmd window using the same options you suggested: "reflac -r -8 -nw -nb" It looks as though it first converts the files to WAV then re-encode them into FLAC 1.1.4 then deletes the WAV, correct? echo cancellation test problem on Windows OS.
Hi, all. I'm a programmer lived in Korea. This time, I was investingating echo cancellation and found speex echo cancellation related API. But echo stilll remains. 1. echo cancellation using only files works propertly. 2. echo cancellation using sound device works not propertly. You can download test files as followed. http://www.vdream.co.kr/temp/ec/echocancel.wmv ( testing screen capture

Users able to connect without password?! (2.0.7)
Hi folks, I'm having a strange problem with a client for whom I've set up Samba (2.0.7 - packages samba-common-2.0.7-18mdk & samba-2.0.7-18mdk) on a server with Linux-Mandrake 7.2. The client uses both Win95 and Win98 workstations. The problem is that there appears to be no password checking at all, i.e a user with a valid login (i.e. a user in /etc/smbuser) can login without
